The product, in the report: Crockpot model CPSCRM20-BP, black color base.
While plugging in my Crockpot CPSCRM20-BP, a large spark occurred from below the Crockpot. After unplugging the device, I found the cables were detached at the bottom. I believe this was due to stress on the cable due to where it exits the device. This is a major defect that could cause fires and shock persons.

The product, in the report: 7-quart slow cooker
Upon 3rd use of 7-quart Crock-Pot, it failed to boil 7 cups of water after 2+ hours on High. I lifted slow cooker to transfer contents to a regular pot and the right handle and its base had melted soft and almost “stretched off”, which would have dumped the cooker’s hot contents onto me.

The product, in the report: CrockPot model SCCPQP600-B
My CrockPot has been emiting a foul smell ever since I bought it five or six years ago. I figured it was chemicals from the manufacturing process burning off, but the smell has gotten worse as time has gone by. When using it recently for an all day cook, the smell in my house was so bad that it stunk for three days. I recently was wiping down the heating base, and when I turned it over, I noticed the plastic grate that covers the bottom had melted in several spots. That would explain the foul smell. Again, this smell has been coming from the unit since I bought it. I consider this a significant fire risk, especially since people typically leave crock pots unattended for hours when they are at work.

The product, in the report: Crock-pot Slow Cooker
Crock-Pot Slow cooker (Sunbeam Brand) Type SC53, Model SCCPCTS605-S-A, PN 158472-010-000. I was going to use it at @[REDACTED] HRS to cook dinner. I was in the process of cleaning the cermanic insert and wiping out the metal base which I turned upside down. I then saw that the 120 volt electrical cord was melted and I could see the strained copper wire inside of the electrical cord. On closer look I realized that the melted/damaged spot was where the wire had come into contact with one of the four “feet” that supports/keeps the metal base of the countertop, or stove surface (creates an air gap). I took photos if you want them. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: I think it’s a 4 quart but I can’t see anywhere on it where it says that. There is no serial number. The only way to find dx is from product code number.
I put stew meat in my Crockpot and when I went to clamp lid the one clamp was broken. I went ahead and cooked the meat. After eating I went to put the remaining meat in [REDACTED] and found the hand tightening bolt in my food! Also the washer was embedded in the meat. If someone had bitten down on this they might have broken a tooth or choked. What kind of design has screws and bolts on the INSIDE of the lid?? I was very fortunate but I think consumer safety should investigate such a design flaw. When I reported to Crockpot they said it only has a one year warranty. I was not expecting a free crockpot. Just acknowledgement that they would look into this. I felt they did not take it seriously. I did submit photos to crockpot for what good that did.

The product, in the report: Crockpot Slow Cooker 7 qt oval.
I purchased a new crockpot at Kohls and used it to slow cook a brisket on low power. I was home and checked on the meat a few hours later and found it at a complete boil. I immediately unplugged the unit and called the company because it should have been at a low cooking temperature and not a boil. The person on the phone told me that some of their units have faulty thermostats and I should not use it again for safety reasons. He would send me a new unit. If I had put it on overnight or if I had left the house, it would have boiled dry and could have caused a fire. The fact he admitted that there were issues with these units was the most upsetting part.

The product, in the report: Crock Pot Silver 4.5 Quart Slow Cooker SCR450-S-BR
2/3/2022. I have only used this crockpot according to instructions. Cooking on low, enough liquid, correct amount of cook time for size of food being cooked. I put my roast in, turned it on low and within one hour it was boiling, by 3 hours a multiple pound roast was cooked completely through on low and we smelled elements or something burning. I noticed after it cooled down the handles were starting to melt.
Each time I have used the product (4 times total) it has cooked too quickly. Burning items to the bottom of the pot, boiling within an hour or so. It gets way too hot!

The product, in the report: 2.5 quart “Crock-Pot” branded slow cooker. Exterior decorated with purple polka-dots on white background. Image matching from various online retailers references the “crock-pot.com” website, which further identifies as a division of Sunbeam Products.
Crock-pot branded (division of Sunbeam Products) 2.5 quart crock pot, the type with the purple polka-dot exterior graphics, was set on high setting for about 3 hours, filled with chicken and sauce. Heat transferred through the embossed metal feet on the bottom of the unit was sufficient to cause cracking of the solid-surface countertop on which the crock pot was sitting. The surface of the counter was hot enough to cause a first-degree burn to the finger of the consumer touching the counter.

The product, in the report: Crock-Pot 7-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker | Stainless Steel (SCV700-S-BR)
The outside of this product gets excessively hot. As a result, I unexpectedly burned myself and in flinching, caused the device to tip over. The base is very unstable (3 legs vs. a standard 4) and this makes it very easy to tip. Luckly I didn’t receive further burns from this, but it’s highly likely that someone else could.

The product, in the report: Crock-Pot SCVT650 Type SC48 Slow Cooker
I have a Crock-Pot model SCVT650 type SC48 Slow Cooker. It has a stainless steel outer shell that contains the heating elements with the crock removable inner bowl. I have used many Crock Pot products previously and none have gotten hot to the touch on the OUTSIDE of the unit. The SCVT650 has always gotten hot on the outside of the unit, to the point of melting plastic items touching the unit. However, after continual use, it is now getting hotter - burning skin, melting things nearby, and being too hot to move around once it has been heated. With small children around my home, I will no longer be using this product. The product hasn’t ever fully functioned properly but it is an increasing risk as the heat seems to be increasing after a few years of occasional use. It is continually melting things nearby and has burned my arm several times at this point and my husband’s hand previously. Also, on the unit it does not say anything that the surface may be hot.

The product, in the report: Crock Pot Has New England Patriots logo on it
As our crock pot was cooling off, I heard a loud pop. The lid had broken into many pieces. Most of the pieces were still stuck together, but some had fallen into the food and some were on the counter top. I think the lid was glass. The broken bits were sharp. Not as bad as some broken glass, but certainly too sharp to eat! Also too sharp to step on, handle without extreme caution, etc.
Your form forces me to pick one “victim”, but I’d say both my wife and I could be considered “victims”. OTOH, no one was actually injured because we cleaned up the glass.

The product, in the report: glass oval lid with hinges for Crock-pot
i was washing crockpot lid with warm soapy water and rinsing with same, and the lid exploded--sending glass all over floor, counter, sink, and all over my shirt and jeans and exposed wrists and hands and face. I may or may not have glass in left eye--can’t tell. the glass was small, and some was so tiny it stuck in my skin without drawing blood. there was no dramatic temp change--crockpot had been used the night before, and i was re-washing since the crockpot itself had been left to soak overnight. there was a loud pop when it exploded. glass flew two feet at least. the lid was not struck with anything prior to explosion.

The product, in the report: Oval Crock Pot lid with black handle. Glass shattered while I was cooking. Crock Pot had been on high for about 2 hours.
I was cooking beef stew in my oval CrockPot for about 2 hours on high when we heard a loud pop. When I went to stir the stew about 30 minutes later, we found the lid was shattered into tiny pieces. My husband tried to lift the lid off, but the handle came right off and pieces of glass fell into the food.

The product, in the report: This Crock Pot Slow Cooker can cause serious burns when in use. When food is heated and the lid is removed. hot steam quickly escapes and causes burns. The company said they would replace the product, but they sent me the exact same model!

The product, in the report: Slow Cooker. Crock Pot Model SCCPVL610-S
Crock Pot brand slow cooker was plugged in on the kitchen counter at Church. It was set to low. After an hour or two someone thought it was not turned on because the light was not lit. The pot felt warm to the touch but we turned it up to high to be sure it was cooking. A half hour later we checked again and the digital control panel was melting and smoke coming from the wires. The counter under the Crock Pot was scorched but did not catch fire before we unplugged the machine.

The product, in the report: Crock-Pot® 3.5-Quart Casserole Crock Slow Cooker SCCPCCM350
We purchased the Crock-Pot casserole slow cooker and used it twice. The first time we brought it to a party and set it on the counter on the “warm” setting. We noticed that it was extremely hot to the touch and decided that it wasn’t safe to have where people would be reaching over it. The second time we used it, we put some food in it and set it on the “warm” setting and left the house for a few hours. When we returned, we found a huge crack in our quartz right under the Crock-Pot. We filed a claim with the company and sent it in for testing. They said that it was operating properly and that it isn’t insulated. I told them that someone is going to get seriously burned from this thing and they said that you have to use your best judgement when using it. I have since read in reviews on Amazon.com that people have been burned by it. One woman stated that she received a second degree burn from it. We feel this item is very dangerous and should be recalled.

I made a huge pork roast in crock pot yesterday, figured it would make several meals for my large family while we vacation far from a grocery store at our cottage. Well ... we came home to tons of shattered glass falling into the roast. I called crock pot 2d & they said that the latches should never be hooked bc overheats & breaks glass. But it WASN’T latched! They will send me new unit but I need to send old one back!!! And no compensation for $30 roast w $6 BBQ sauce. I’m so ticked. Plus I need to return the bad unit, which means dealing with all this broken glass as we pack to return home.
In addition, I don’t know what we’ll eat between now & tomorrow. Kinda low on food.
I hope there is a way to submit pictures.

The Crock-pot classic 7 quart oval slow cooker was given to me as a Christmas present. The second time used the handle separated from the glass cover. This caller is reporting a slow cooker purchased sometime around 2012 - 2013 from one of two retailers in Montana.
Sunday, December 20th, 2015 the caller was cooking with the heat setting at low for approximately two to three hours when he and his wife heard a ‘pop’ sound then returned to the kitchen and saw that the glass lid of the unit had broken and fallen into the food.
The pieces of glass were extremely small and estimated to be in the hundreds.
The pieces of glass couldn’t go through a strainer but could go through a colander.
He is reporting this incident as a choking and laceration hazard if the food was accidently eaten.
There are no injuries being reported.
The caller has not contacted the manufacturer and is not sure he intend to contact them.

My new COCK POT cookers lid shattered during its fourth use. While cooking soup and standing right next to it. Scared me big time with a loud POP ! Glass stayed in place and did not explode outward. I did go through my manual when purchased but missed this line… ‘Unit should not be in the locked position while cooking.’ This is a prominent safety issue and I feel that companies should have a bold warning on front of manual; on the box purchased in, and etched in lid. Multiple BOLD warnings so customers do not miss as I did. I am disappointed that I just lost my CROCK POT but I am thankful that this one did not explode outward and cause injury as I have noted in other posts. I purchased mine in October 2015 I have taken a picture but unable to download it to this site.

The product, in the report: Crock-Pot® Programmable 6 Quart Cook and Carry Slow Cooker - Black
I purchased a Crock Pot brand Slow Cooker about a year ago and have used it multiple (10+) times without incident. On 9/18/15, I set the Crock Pot to Low for 10 hours and put in beef short ribs (4), sautéed onions, red wine, beef broth, chopped garlic and carrots.
Approximately 2 hours into the cooking time, I heard a loud bang from the dining room, almost like fireworks or a gun shot. When I went to see what happened, I noticed the lid of the slow cooker was shattered. I took pictures and then tried to remove the lid by lifting it by the handle. At that time, the handle, with some glass attached to it, separated from the lid. I proceeded to remove the lid by using the locking mechanisms on the sides. I placed the lid in a box. There was one small piece of glass in the slow cooker with the food.

I was using my Crock Pot slow cooker to make chili as I have done many times before. It was set to high and left on for about 4 hours. When I went to stir the chili and check on it, I lifted the handle and it came off in my hand. The entire glass lid was shattered and pieces of glass from right around the handle fell into my chili. When I tried to get the lid off of the slow cooker, it completely shattered. This is incredibly dangerous and I am fortunate that it only resulted in a loss of the chili and not more serious cuts from the glass.

We have a 25 year old crockpot that works fine and know how to use them and handle them. This crock pot that exploded was purchased at Walmart in Logan UT on 4/11/2015. We have used it once or twice before and this happened today! She is now on her way to the doctor as she has a tiny piece of glass in her eye.

Crockpot Slow Cooker Model SCV700-B. I have a cooker that is 2yrs old, and several days ago I was making dinner (chicken noodle soup), as shown in several different cooking web sites. I set it on low heat, and about 3hrs into the cooking I heard a loud pop. I checked several different rooms and didn’t see anything and then went to check on the meal. At that time I noticed that the lid had shattered completely. When I tried to lift the lid up, it fell apart. Not being sure if any went into the meal, I threw it out. I contacted the company by email, and the responded with wanting the recept, numbers off the plug and my information, which I gave them. They said they would make a one time replacement of the lid, but had no idea when they would have in stock and to contact them in 2-3 weeks to check. Not exactly what I thought they should do, but what I figured they would do.
Reason I am filing this, as there might be some that if they have the same problem might try to eat whatever they made without checking to see if it had pieces of the lid within the meal.

I was using my Crock Pot brand 6 quart slow cooker. I had placed a roast in on low heat at 8:30 am and at 10:30 am I heard a loud pop noise. I entered the kitchen to check on noise and found the lid to my crock pot had shattered throughout it’s entire surface. In trying to clean it all up and discard the mess and roast, the glass continued to fall out of the lid in tiny splinters.
The concern is the risk of something shattering to this degree and the unnecessary task of having to handle broken shards/tiny splinters of glass.

The product, in the report: This is a Crock Pot - “the original slow cooker” - with a metal looking outside.
I just tried using my Crock Pot for the first time today. One hour after turning it on (with my meal inside it) and it only being on the “low” setting, I heard a popping noise and saw that the lid had completely shattered, sending glass into my food and onto my counter. I am appalled. This is a never-been-used product that had no previous damage or loss of integrity. I’m particularly concerned because I only had this on the low setting - I worry about how much of an explosion of glass there would have been if the Crock Pot had been on the high setting.

The product, in the report: 6 quart, oval black shaped crock pot
Almost three years ago my friend bought me a crock pot from Walmart on Black Friday. Ive used it about 10 times since ive had it and almost always cook food at a low setting. Well I haven’t used it in about 2 or 3 months. I live in Phoenix and usually made soup in it, and since the last time its been washed, sitting on my counter near the sink (for a lack of space) with the lid sitting on top, upright with the cord laying inside. This evening for no apparent reason it suddenly cracked into a thousand pieces but stayed put together. Luckily there was no food in it and no one was near by. After looking online and asking a few friends I guess this does occasionally happen. Ive never, in my 28 years of living, seen or heard any of my mother’s crock pots do this. Im assuming it’s the brand.

The product, in the report: 5.5 qt oval crockpot with countdown timer. Exterior is stainless steel. Crock is black. Lid is glass with black handle and metal band around rim
The lid to my 5.5 qt Crockpot shattered during use yesterday 1/8/2014. I started vegetable-beef soup in the morning, set the crockpot to cook on low for 10 hours. I arrived home after it had been cooking about 9 hours to find the lid shattered while sitting on top of the crockpot. No injuries were sustained. This crockpot was given to me for Christmas 2010 and has been used on many occasions without incident. I even made chili earlier in the week using it! After reading several accounts of same online, including this website, I feel the shattered lid is due to manufacturer’s defect, not consumer error. I do not agree with the generic repsonse Jarden gave for this article: http://archive.13wmaz.com/news/article/231998/175/CONSUMER-ALERT--Shattering-Crock-Pots
I have been crockpot cooking for more than 10 years. I have an older crockpot that has an all-glass lid as well as a trio. I am well-aware and comply with the requirement that you allow the crock to come to room temperature before washing. I do not prep ingredients the night before and put crock in refrigerator for use the next day. All of my crockpots are stored in basement so they do not get bumped or jarred around. In every account of shatter lids I found online, they are of same design: oval or round lid with plastic handle and metal ring around rim. I have diminished faith in Crockpot and am weary of the newer models.

I had a Crock-pot SCCPQP600-B slow cooker that after the first use melted the plastic in the base (smelled up my kitchen) and stopped working. Reviews on amazon.com reported the same, but I figured it was user error or something. I sent it back to the company (Jarden) and they graciously sent me a free nearly identical replacement (I got a SCCPQP600-S instead). Yesterday was the first time I used the replacement and it too melted the base and smelled up my kitchen AGAIN. Only difference is this one still works. See the reviews on Amazon for the -B model if you want additional evidence that this should probably be recalled. http://www.amazon.com/Crock-Pot-SCCPQP600-B-6-Quart-Smart-Pot-Squond/product-reviews/B003HFC9SG/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1
I’ve been using crock pots for years, I am a very technical/mechanically inclined person, so this is NOT user error. This product is absolutely defective and unsafe.
I’m already in contact with Jarden about this defective product and they’re offering me a refund after I mail this one back to them. If you all need proof I have taken pictures of what happened (unfortunately only of the second one), but I can give as much detail as you all need...

I removed the lid carefully and as soon as I lifted it off of the pot all of the glass fell through the bottom and the million little pieces went everywhere. Luckily, I was not hurt. Glass went everywhere including inside the pot where my pork roast was cooking. I dont understand why this happened. The pot was being used for about five hours. I used the crock pot often.

The product, in the report: CrockPot brand slow cooker
I wanted to register with you that within the past 3 months I’ve have 2 CrockPot brand crock pot lids shatter into small shards of glass. Neither was being used in any way against their instructions. The first was cooking a pork tenderloin (on low). I complained to the company - they sent me a new one. Within 3 uses the lid of the new one shattered on Thanksgiving Day. The CrockPot contained mulled cider. I will be calling the company again on Monday to complain, but I will not use their product again. It is very dangerous, aside from the fact that I lost some expensive food to the debacle. I have no faith that it will not happen again. One concern I have is that people may try to wash the broken glass off the food rather than lose the money. One of our guests suggested i strain the cider and we continue to drink it. Obviously I didn’t do that, but it was disturbing that an otherwise intelligent person would think that would actually be ok to do . Someone is going to get hurt.

I have a CrockPot brand slow cooker classic oval 4-7 qt cooker, model #SCV700-B. The slow cooker was 1/2 full of beef vegetable stew, set on low for about 8 hours, on the kitchen counter. We heard a loud pop and I discovered the oval glass lid had shattered into a million pieces for no reason. The slow cooker is less than one year old and has only been used a few times. It didn’t have any cracks, chips or other defects that I could visually identify. Nothing was touching it or around it. It just shattered on it’s own. I feel this is a safety issue or poor lid design that should be corrected. The large oval lid seemed thin and flimsy. Older models of slow cookers had thicker more robust lids.

They put it away and didn’t use it for a while and when they took it out around December 2012 they discovered that it had mold all over the inside so they cleaned it thoroughly, used it then cleaned it thoroughly again before putting it away.
They took the crock pot out again in January 2013, it had mold on the outside this time, they had to clean it again. .
The last time the crock pot was taken out was sometime during the second week in January and again they noticed that it was moldy.
They would ask that this crock pot be recalled with replacement by manufacturer as the remedy.
There have been no injuries.

I have a stainless steel crock pot brand smart pot. I bumped the pot with my hand while using it and now have a 2nd degree burn on my hand which is about 1 inch long by 1/2 inch wide. This burn became infected and I have had to be on antibiotics. Additionally, when it does finally heal, I will have a good size scar on my hand.
My concern is that I had no idea that the outside of the crock pot was so hot during use. There are no safety warnings on the pot itself. If I received this type of burn, I can only imagine what would happen if a child touched the pot while in use.
No counter top cooking device should become so hot on the exterior that it can cause this type of injury or certainly should have a large warning on the outside about the potential danger if touched during use.

We have used this product approximately 3 times. I noticed a electrical burning smell the last time (yesterday) while cooking. After finishing its use and while cleaning it I noticed on the underside of the unit an area that has melted. Upon closer inspection I also noticed that some of the insulation on the cord has been damaged where it goes into the cord storage part of the unit.
Upon some checking on the internet I see that this is a common problem and the product appears to be unsafe and a potential fire hazard.
I used the product as directed in the owners manual and hope that there is enough evidence to recall this dangerous product.

Using a relatively new Crock Pot brand Crock-pot. They product was purchased 6 mos ago. I had the item on with a dinner inside and heard a pop. After looking at the crockpot the entire lid was shattered and I had glass all over my food and the floor. I have small children and dogs, so the idea that they could have stepped on the glass before I had seen it scares me. I contacted the company who basically told me that I need to reread my manual, to learn how to use the product correctly. They said they had never heard of this issue before, and never have cracked lids. I asked for my money back, as I have no confidence in their product. I had previously had another brand before for over 10 years and had never had a problem. They Crock Pot company refuses to give me my money back, stating the cracked lid was my fault. They did send me an email after our phone conversation with a tracking number for a new lid. I am very fearful to ever use this produce again.
