The product, in the report: In wall combo Microwave and Over unit. Manufactured by Samsung Bespoke 30” Microwave Combination Wall Oven with Flex DuoTM in White Glass Model No. NQ70CB700D12AA
I have a Samsung In-Wall, Microwave + Over combo. I purchased this product on June 18, 2025. Below are the details: Bespoke 30” Microwave Combination Wall Oven with Flex DuoTM in White Glass Serial no: NQ70CB700D12AA
On Sep 20, 2026. the unit started itself and then set on fire. The fire was self contained. Fire department was called and the until was removed from the wall and they identified the motor is what burnt. I have reached out to Samsung but they don’t want to make a full re-imbursement for the unit and saying will require a 12.5% depreciation. Even though this is more of a hazardous manufacturer defect and not a ware and tear from use.

The product, in the report: Model Code NQ70T5511DS/AA Serial Number 0GPR7DBYB00131Y
I purchased a Samsung microwave oven combo from Home Depot at the end of June for over $2,000. Since installation, it has smoked during cooking and smelled as though something was burning. Samsung has sent technicians multiple times. I was told the appliance is a fire hazard and not to use it, yet Samsung is offering another repair. I am requesting a replacement appliance and a phone call from a Samsung representative authorized to resolve this case. My case numbers are [REDACTED], and I can be reached at [REDACTED}.

First aid Made Aug 24, 2026, sent to the company Aug 27, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 14, 2026
The product, in the report: MS19DG8500SRAA is the model number and 0D707WTL202324B is the serial number.
On August 23, 2026, my son heated a ramekin in our Samsung microwave for approximately 15 seconds. When he opened the microwave door, a piece of the glass turntable plate flew out of the microwave and struck his hand, cutting him. The rest of the glass plate remained intact. We do not know exactly when or how the piece broke off, but the plate had not previously been cracked, dropped, or damaged, and the microwave was being used normally. The microwave is practically new - it was manufactured in February 2026 and purchased in May 2026, making it only about three months old at the time of the incident. I have photographs of the damaged plate, and I am currently working with a Samsung representative to file an incident report directly with the company. I am extremely concerned about the seriousness of this safety hazard. A sharp piece of glass flying out of a microwave at a person could cause a severe injury, particularly if it struck the face, eyes, neck, or another vulnerable area. We were fortunate that the piece struck my sons hand, but this could very easily have resulted in a much more serious injury. A practically new appliance being used normally should not create this kind of danger. I am reporting this incident because I believe it warrants review to determine whether there is a potential defect or risk to other consumers.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 19, 2026, sent to the company Jul 22, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 5, 2026
The product, in the report: Samsung 5.1 cubic foot electric wall oven and microwave combination, black stainless steel finish, with Wi-Fi. 30 inch width, designed as a built in wall unit combining a conventional oven on the bottom and a microwave oven on top. Model number NQ70T5511DG. Serial number 0GPQ7DBWA00039B. Purchased new from Home Depot and installed by the home builder in a newly constructed home in Provo, Utah. The unit was delivered in December 2023 and installed in the home before the home was sold. We are the first and only owners of the home and moved in October 2025.
Here’s a cleaned version using only plain punctuation, no colons, parentheses, slashes, or dashes:
---
We are the first owners of a newly built spec home in Utah, purchased from the builder. The builder had installed a brand new Samsung microwave in 2024. The home sat on the market before we closed and moved in October 2025. By the time we discovered the issue, the Samsung manufacturer warranty had already expired.
We discovered that the microwave door safety interlock is not functioning correctly. The microwave will operate normally, with the turntable spinning, the interior light on, and heating, even when the door is completely open. This should be mechanically and electrically impossible on a properly functioning microwave. The door interlock switches are a required safety feature meant to cut power the moment the door is opened.
Our home warranty company sent a technician to inspect the unit after we reported the problem. That technician told us not to be concerned, stating that although the microwave appeared to run with the door open, with the turntable spinning and the light on, internal safety mechanisms would still prevent actual heating or radiation output. Shortly after that technician left, while the microwave was running with the door fully open, a cup inside the microwave spilled. My wife reached in with her hand to remove the cup and was burned. This showed that the microwave was actively heating despite the door being open, contradicting what we had just been told and confirming the safety interlock has failed.
Product involved, Samsung microwave, installed new by the home builder in 2024.
Who was using it and how, my wife was using the microwave in our home for normal household cooking and reheating purposes at the time of the injury.
Injury, my wife sustained a burn to her hand when she reached into the microwave to retrieve a spilled cup while the unit was actively running and heating with the door fully open.
Additional context, two separate home warranty technicians and a Samsung authorized repair technician have inspected the unit. All have suggested the underlying issue may be related to physical damage, possibly from installation, rather than a manufacturing or mechanical defect, and none could confirm a way to determine when or how the damage occurred. Regardless of the root cause of any physical damage, the microwave ability to actively heat and operate with the door open represents a failure of a critical safety mechanism and a radiation and burn exposure risk to anyone using the appliance.

The product, in the report: Samsung Microwave Oven
On 5/29/26, the Samsung microwave oven model ME179KFETSR initiated a cooking cycle completely unassisted with no human interaction. The unit began running while empty. This behavior represents a severe underlying hardware component failure, specifically a shorted main control board relay or a failed door interlock microswitch framework. Because the unit activates while empty, it presents an immediate fire and property damage hazard. The unit has been completely disconnected from the power grid to mitigate the risk of house fire. I am requesting a formal safety investigation into this model batch.

No one hurt Made Feb 24, 2026, sent to the company Feb 27, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 13, 2026
The product, in the report: The microwave began smoking as soon as I opened the door, and when I looked closer, I noticed burn marks along the area where the door meets the frame. The surface around that section was extremely hot to the touch, and even after I cleaned it thoroughly, the microwave continued to overheat and give off a burning smell whenever I tried to use it. The combination of smoke, visible burn damage, and excessive heat makes it clear that something inside the microwave has failed, and it no longer feels safe to operate.

No incident, no one hurt Made Dec 22, 2025, sent to the company Dec 30, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 14, 2026
The product, in the report: Samsung Microwave
For several days prior to the incident, the microwave was displaying an error message and was not responding to button inputs. During this time, the appliance could not be operated normally. Despite being in this error state and without any user interaction, the microwave unexpectedly turned on by itself and began actively cooking. No buttons were pressed, and no cooking cycle was intentionally started.
When the unit activated, it generated heat and a strong burning odor, suggesting internal overheating or an electrical malfunction. The microwave activated unexpectedly while unattended by controls. If I had not been home at the time, this incident could have resulted in a fire and significant property damage. The unit was actively heating and emitting a burning odor when discovered, indicating a serious risk of ignition had it continued operating.

The product, in the report: Samsung ME16A4021AS
The microwave (Samsung ME16A4021AS) will run by its self continuously if the door is cracked open. If you start the microwave or not you can gently pull the handle and it will run regardless of how the microwave is setup. If you open the door all the way it stops. I found this by gently grabbing the handle before taking my food out. If something caused the door to not close all the way the microwave will just continue to run.

The product, in the report: ME21K7010DG/AA - 2.1 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave with PowerGrill and Ceramic Enamel Interior. In the color of black stainless steel.
Was baking something in the oven and thought the oven was really loud but went about my business. 15-20 minutes later I heard a pop (which I assume was the microwave door since there was so much smoke and heat). Samsung microwave caught fire without use, tons of smoke and smell of burnt plastic. Once smoke cleared, could see open flames in the unit and watered down. Turned off breaker to microwave, once husband came home, we removed the unit. Luckily, I was home when this occurred and there were no injuries.

I woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of smoke. I ran downstairs and saw a smokey haze in the kitchen. There was smoke coming from the microwave. The exterior was hot to the touch. The glass turntable was so hot it was untouchable. I unplugged the microwave immediately - felt the cabinets which were hot but not smoking. I later called Samsung to see if there was a recall, their only comment was “it’s not under warranty”. Didn’t ask for details or seem to care there was a potential fire hazard.

The product, in the report: over the range microwave oven
(approx. Fall-2023): The microwave began to start by itself, while in the off position. The problem started happening occasionally and grew worse over time. This also led to the consumer noticing a burning odor in the home, when this happened.
He called the manufacturer and was given a variety of responses for this issue. Once, he was told that the magnetos were getting hot and it caused the problem. The consumer asked the rep. why this would happen if it was not in use, but the rep. could not provide an answer.
(March – 2024): The manufacturer arranged for a service technician to come out and examine the microwave. The technician said that some part in it was getting hot and caused it to turn on by itself.
The technician that came out was from [REDACTED]. The technician then video called the company while at the consumer’s home. The manufacturer’s representative told the technician that this was normal, and they did not offer any resolution or other assistance.
** The manufacturer gave the consumer a service ticket (Claim I.D.): [REDACTED] ** Service Order Ticket Number: [REDACTED]
In the end, the manufacturer sent the consumer an email indicating that they were closing the ticket, and nothing was wrong with the microwave. The consumer wrote them back, stating this was a safety issue and the matter is not resolved. He never heard back from them.

The product, in the report: Samsung over the range microwave oven. Stainless steel color. The microwave was clean with no food inside
Our Samsung microwave oven started completely by itself. The microwave was not in use and no one was near it. When we realized it was running, we hit the power button and it did not turn off. Opening the door did not turn it off. There was a burning smell. The microwave turntable was burning hot and could not be touched. The microwave was then turned off at the breaker box. I firmly believe that if we were not home, this would have caught on fire. No other items in the kitchen were in use or affected. This was on a separate working breaker.

The product, in the report: Samsung microwave
I bought 2 identical Samsung microwaves in June 2020. Last year, we had to replace one as the plastic around the door had started to melt and warp. I saw this to be a future fire danger or potentially a dangerous microwave that wasnt sealed properly. Although I knew it was a product failure, I thought it to be a one-off, bad luck scenario. Then, a few weeks ago, the same plastic-melting defect appeared in the other microwave. The two microwaves were being operated in two different homes. Now I know it is a Samsung defect issue. I took a couple of photos of the microwave and kept the unit, although it was replaced immediately.

The product, in the report: Samsung household microwave 1.7KW Over the Range microwave
I purchased a new Samsung microwave (Model #ME19R7041FS) on October 28, 2021. On September 30th of 2021 the microwave started by itself (it was not used that day) and ran with the exhaust fan at full speed. None of the controls worked, and the door interlock did not function when it was opened. In 10 minutes the front of the microwave became too hot to touch, and I pulled the plug. Samsung agreed to repair the microwave under warranty, and replaced the motherboard. It worked fine until October12, 2023, when the same thing happened. I am sure it would have caused a fire if it was not disconnected. I am replacing it with another brand, but I had noticed that this same model was mentioned by owners on a Samsung consumer forum as having similar occurrences within the same time frame.

Around twenty minutes later his wife came in, made the comment that it was extremely hot, then called for him to come into the kitchen as she opened the door to the microwave.
There were no flames and the unit cooled down in approximately twenty minutes.
The caller and his wife realized that the microwave turned on by itself with no one near it. They turned it off. There was no property damage.
The caller contacted the manufacturer and they offered to send a technician out to inspect it. The consumer is still considering their options.

The product, in the report: Microwave, residential, over range, stainless steal finish
Residential microwave installed over range has touchpad controls. Without anyone touching it or even in the room, it randomly enters digits when cooking or off. This was infrequent but now happens several times per day. It also turns itself on with nobody in the room. For example, will push 30+ to heat something for 30 seconds and after it starts cooking, the microwave will add 9 minutes to the cook time with nobody touching it. This has resulted in burnt food but no fire yet. However, since this has happened when we are not in the room and could happen when we are not home to stop it, we are concerned about a fire.

The product, in the report: over the range microwave oven
The consumer has a safety concern with the way the product is manufactured with a plastic plate on the bottom instead of a stainless steel plate.
(08/09/2022)The consumer stated there was a mixture of oil and frozen vegetables on the stove which is right under the microwave. The mixture caught on fire and the flames hit the bottom of the microwave which is plastic. This cause everything near and around the microwave to burn causing about $50,000 worth of damage to the consumer’s home.
The consumer stated when he was checking to buy a new over the range microwave oven, he noticed that some of them did have stainless steel plates instead of plastic. He is wondering why not all of them.

Samsung instructed me they would contact me and referenced ticket #[REDACTED]. we had to leave the home with the windows open to try to get the smoke and odor out. We had to remove the microwave and take measures to remove the odor. Samsung said they would follow up with me, but they have not contacted me.

Was making baked potatoes in our microwave. I had wrapped the potato in a wet paper towel and pushed the potato sensor button and went about making the rest of our dinner. Usually the sensor will turn off the microwave automatically. Instead there was a large crash and smoke/sparks came from the microwave. Once we opened it we saw flames coming from potato and covered it with a wet kitchen towel. The plate (microwave safe) that the potato was one had broken into pieces.

The product, in the report: Samsung 2.1 cu ft over the range microwave stainless steel Model ME21K7010DS
I have had nothing but issues with Samsung home appliances. The first issue was with our microwave. It would randomly select numbers by itself. We contacted Samsung and they sent out a tech who replaced the front panel of the microwave. It worked for a short period of time until it started selecting numbers again. Typically it selects 3 and 7. It has also turned on the fan by itself while we were not home. We contacted Samsung again and a tech came out in 2017. We bought these appliances brand new as a suite when we moved into our home 5 years ago. Again, the microwave worked for a little bit until it selected numbers again, turned the fan on and even started on its own. This is a fire hazard. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Samsung Over the Range Microwave n Black (model#me21m706BAG) https://www.samsung.com/us/home-appliances/microwaves/over-the-range/2-1-cu--ft--over-the-range-microwave-me21m706bag-aa/ Model me21m706BAG
I own the samsung over oven range microwave (model#me21m706BAG) and it started acting funny suddenly and constantly beeping and the display screen saying press start to continue or stop. All through the day and middle of the night. One day I put my cup of coffee in the microwave for 1.00 (1minute) and take a call in my office. I realize after that I forgot my coffee, but when I walked back I saw the microwave still running and counting down from 45 minutes! I have no idea what happened! The next day the beeping continues and the display says press start or stop to clear I decided to press start for the first time and it started counting down from 7 seconds. I realized that this was related to the coffee incident and that this microwave now has a say itself on the time settings- it set my 1 minute entry and added a 7 to it so it must have attempted to run for 71 minutes! When I go to Samsungs website to get help and google if this has happened to any other people I saw that this is such a common defect that all reviewers have in common. Samsung hasn’t placed a recall on this, but it is legitimately dangerous and entirely not functioning how a microwave is intended to. The beeping is annoying, but the software glitch causing the microwave to input its own time setting. When a microwave gains some control over it’s settings you know there is a serious glitch. Constantly attempting to start itself and causing modifications to the time the consumer enters actually scares me. It is not like the glitch is only related to the number 7 here, it’s a glitch in the keypad or software that operates the settings-as in the start button next to the number buttons! I don’t know what else will happen since the faulty functionality has increased in frequency since it tried to melt my coffee cup (microwave safe has a limit and thankfully it wasn’t food that could have actually caught on fire after 30+ minutes with the intent 71 total minutes). Some reviewers have said that theirs has had their doors replaced or the entire unit has been replaced, but it developed the same defect very soon after. This seems to be a very well known product defect to samsung, and obviously not something a consumer should expect from a microwave. I do not believe warranties are meant to capture a known defect to software like this, so the continued sales of it is placing an added financial burden and threat to safety on the consumers who apparently have no options to require Samsungs faulty product be recalled and replaced with non faulty units. Honestly just imagine not allowing your 7 and 9 year old to use a microwave because you fear that a faulty setting could impact the entered time and setting in such a way that could be dangerous. A casual popcorn setting could lead to harm of persons and property. I have never complained about a microwave or submitted a report about a dangerous product- and microwaves are so basic. But this entirely reminds me of the samsung phones that blew up and caught fire all over, this software however is inside a much larger and potentially dangerous piece of equipment.
I realize that if I was standing in front of the microwave after entering 1.00 start I could have noticed the faulty setting sooner, but realistically how often would a normal consumer do that? I imagine this could happen a lot, just as simply and randomly it had to me. I know a lot of kids who are perfectly old enough to operate a microwave, and I wonder what would have happened if they put a hot pocket in for 1 minute and continued their tv or game only to have their microwave burn the house down. I am genuinely confused why this has not already been recalled for clear defective software and the only thing I can think is that so far no one, or not enough someone’s have died. That is good, but not what I personally feel is the bar for considering this safe. And because it is so well know to Samsung I am upset that I have to report this simply because their bar for what constitutes unsafe is when their phones explode. I was not harmed in this other than burning my hand trying to get the boiling sludge cup out of the microwave and into the sink, but I am a Chef so not a big deal personally. But I know fats and sugars or a paper plate/paper towel etc would not have responded the same as a cup of black coffee. I lucked out, and I am appropriately aware and concerned.
Oh by the way the glitch does stack on top of itself. it beeps once and it’s apparently setting it’s time for 7 seconds, but if I do not clear it and it beeps again it is then set for 77 seconds....and so on. So just now while typing this I had to go clear it and when I decided out of curiosity how many beeps just occurred by pressing start I see it set itself for 77.77minutes....by itself.
I’m having to explain to friends that visit to be careful and not use it because If my microwave hasn’t gained consciousness and decided to try and kill me recently, than it seems like Samsung seems to be. lol. (trying to laugh off the $450 fire hazard in the making is the best I can do other than this report).
Some reviewers have mentioned that the microwave turned on automatically as well, and I believe that has happened to mine as well. I’m just not in the room when it happened. I half thought we had a ghost or something, but this microwave has a mind of it’s own and electromagnetic radiation designed to create thermal energy...I would have honestly preferred a ghost!

my over the range Samsung Microwave over model SMH16225 installed 2014 caught fire while cooking a small potato. You could hear the unit begin to short out then when I turned the machine off I noticed black smoke coming from the vent on top and plastic melting and dripping onto the potato. Fortunately I was standing right there and was able to use a fire extinguisher to douse the electrical fire inside the top of the unit. This would have burned down the house because the microwave is an over the oven built in with wood cabinet and doors above.

Have been trying to work with Samsung but keeps going in circles. Their web site tell us to unplug immediately it’s a fire hazard and go to support. Go to support you are directed to schedule a repair. No repair techs in area. So start over. After many attempts I researched and there is page after page of complaints about this. Reports of their microwave being repaired with new door and within 5 months the problems start all over. Last night it started on its own 3 times after we unplugged and plugged back in which is Samsung’s first suggestion. I can’t leave it plugged in because it is a fire hazard. Why are these not being recalled? I have been dealing with extended warranty company, retailer I bought it from and Samsung no one wants to address the problem.

The product, in the report: Samsung Over-the-Range Microwave Model ME18H704SFS FCC ID: A3LOTR19M4C Black and stainless steel in color on the outside. We have a Samsung Over-the-Range Microwave bought from Costco on January 22, 2019 as a 4-piece set (with a fridge, oven, and dishwasher). This is not the original microwave as it had to be replaced and repaired by Samsung technicians 3 times already due to other issues related to internal electronics. The issue came on August 13, 2020 when I was cleaning the inside microwave with a damp papertowel. The back bottom right corner of the microwave apparently had enamel poorly coated. A piece about 1cm tall and half a centimeter wide flaked off and sliced through the papertowel and through my finger. I had to use tweezers to pick out fragments of blue-speckled enamel from the bleeding cut. More small pieces flaked off when I then used a pair of tongs with a damp papertowel to sponge the area and pick up these sharp shards.
I contacted Costco’s Concierge desk (as the microwave is under warranty) on August 27, 2020 who then contacted Samsung. The Samsung representative stated that chipped enamel is cosmetic and not covered under warranty even though I was injured from it. They said that I could personally pay for a technician to come out but there’s no guarantee of a solution as the representative had nothing in their manual about this situation. I expected as much because on August 21,2020 when a technician came to fix the blown out capacitor and magnetron under warranty, I mentioned the enamel issue. He said that he couldn’t do anything since it wasn’t on the repair ticket and he said “honestly I don’t even know if anything can be done even it was. I’ve never seen anything like that. You should call back to that Costco desk or Samsung and make a new ticket, the the main reps might know what to do.” The technician worked for [REDACTED], a subcontractor of Samsung repairs.

My wife and I had cooked dinner. We used the microwave to heat some frozen peas for 6 minutes. One we finished eating I noticed our microwave was making a buzzing noise almost like it was running. It wouldn’t turn off. I opened the door and the buzzing ceased. I tried unplugging it to reset it and it continued to buzz. I left the door open to try and determine the cause of the issue. My wife closed the door not realizing what was happening. The microwave got really hot quickly and was beginning to smoke. I quickly unplugged it and brought it outside. It smelled strongly of burnt wires/plastic. The metal case was too hot to touch on the top. I’m so glad we didn’t leave the house and we’re capable of handling the situation. It almost burned down our house.

Samsung microwave oven (ME21H706MQS) turned itself on and caused fire resulting in $30.000 damage to the apartment. Samsung initially offered to replace the oven after their inspector confirmed that the oven caused the fire. Later Samsung denied responsibility for the unsafe operation of the equipment manufactured by them and refused to pay any compensation. Based on numerous similar incidents reported on the internet with this Samsung microwave oven, this device should not be sold as it is unsafe.

The product, in the report: Over the range microwave oven
Spring 2019: The microwave began to automatically set itself for 7 seconds and signal that the start feature was ready. However, the microwave did not actually start at that time, but simply stayed on that setting. The consumer said that the problem occurred weekly and at random.
Approximately a month or so later, that time increased to 77 seconds. The microwave would not turn on by itself.
More recently, the time increased to 7777 (77 minutes & 77 seconds). However, it did not actually turn on.
Around approximately August or September 2019, the microwave vent turned on by itself, at random. It occurred in the middle of the night and only happened once. It alerted the consumer and she went downstairs, pressed the stop button and turned the vent power off.
10/28/2019: Around 6:30am, the microwave set itself for 7777 (77 minutes & 77 seconds) and turned on by itself. The consumer’s husband opened the microwave oven door, pressed stop on the power button and unplugged it from the outlet. By this time, it had been operating for 10 minutes and was extremely hot to the touch on the inside and outside. Even the sides of the cabinets and the top of the cooking oven, underneath the vent (approx.. 22”) were extremely hot to the touch.
10/28/2019: The consumer called the manufacturer, Tel: [REDACTED], and reported the matter. They agreed to send a technician out on 10/31/2019.
Samsung referred the consumer to [REDACTED], one of their authorized service technical companies.
10/30/2019: Since the tech. was scheduled for 10/31/2019 and she had not heard from them, the consumer followed up with the service company and their rep. began to explain the charges (the possible cost of parts and labor).
The consumer called the mfr. back and explained that in light of the incident, she shouldn’t be charged for the service/repair. Their rep. said that the product was purchased in 2016, but the consumer said they did not purchase it until 2017. The rep. said sometimes the warranty may be extended to 2 years if the circumstances warranted. Nothing else transpired.

The product, in the report: Microwave
My wife placed a bowl of bean soup in the microwave for two minutes and left the kitchen. When she came back to the kitchen, she screamed that the microwave was on fire. I came upstairs and entered the kitchen coughing. I didn’t see any flames or anything smoldering. I opened the window and aired out the kitchen. The smoke didn’t smell like burned food, but more like burnt plastic or electrical wires.
I asked my wife if she put any metal objects in the microwave unintentionally. She claimed she didn’t. After the smoked cleared, I checked the inside of the microwave for anything that could have caused the issue. I found nothing and performed a test to see if it operates. I ran the microwave set for 2 minutes.
After about a minute running, I saw smoke coming from the bottom of the microwave. I immediately stopped the microwave and unplugged it. I just reported the issue to Samsung customer care and they said someone will contact me within 24 to 48 hours due to high call volume. I felt the issue was urgent and they should have escalated it for a faster response.

We operated exactly how the instruction manual states the operation should be. All items prior were in like new condition.

I have a Samsung over the range microwave, model ME16H702SES serial 078N7WOGB00268N manufactured Nov-2015, purchased 1/27/2016. The unit was on and cooking 4 large potatoes for a few minutes, when it lost power and started producing a strong smell similar to burning plastic. The unit tripped a dedicated, grounded 20A circuit breaker. We removed it from where it was mounted in the kitchen, after ~15 minutes the unit was still producing a strong smell and was quite warm to the touch on the top, in an area that would have been in contact with the bottom of our wood cabinets. If it was any worse we would have called the fire department. Contacted Samsung, they were not interested in helping or understanding the potential fire risk unless we were willing to pay for a service call which was likely to be more than the cost of the unit new. We were not interested in having the unsafe unit in our house even if repaired, since I believe it should not have failed in this way.

This complaint is against the consumer’s microwave that he purchased from a retailer August 2014. He states that he had problems with the unit from the very first week. The unit has an exhaust fan with a screen that shoots out of the microwave and at times shoots across the kitchen. This incident sometimes happens once a week and other weeks happens once a day. This consumer is reporting this as a serious burn and injury hazard because the screen could hit whomever is using [REDACTED] the unit and cause injury and/or burns. He is asking that a recall become effective for this unit. There are no injuries being reported. He has contacted the manufacturer but he was informed that the unit is out of warranty then advised to just throw the screen away. He does not have the name of the person he spoke with but said that he was told by the representative that the manufacturer does not repair or replace any product out of warranty.

The product, in the report: Samsung model ME21K7010DG
I purchased a Samsung microwave oven last year at Lowe’s. It was their top model. Shortly after installing it, the microwave would start operating on its own. Numbers would be selected, the lights would turn on, the vent, and even the heating element. This was even occurring at night when we slept. I contacted Samsung, they sent someone here and they fixed it, free of charge, as it was within the year of purchase. However, shortly after it was fixed, it began happening again, only this time it was after the year warranty. Samsung refuses to do anything about unless I pay a $100 deposit to bring a technician here, plus any costs associated with labor and parts. They told me it would easily cost over $200 to fix and advised me it would probably be best to purchase a new microwave, which I refuse to do considering this is only a little over a year old. I read reviews online, and there are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of similar complaints of this model of microwave. I will atttach the link below to a review website; you’ll notice all the stories are similar. Please feel free to contact me to help resolve this issue before someone suffers a serious injury. Thanks

In August 2017 the caller noticed that her microwave did not stop running after being used. The timer hit zero, and the caller removed the food from the microwave. Once the caller closed the microwave it would begin to run again even after the timer was on zero. After this first incident, the microwave has continued to run after each time it has been in use. The caller says that the microwave has even spontaneously cut on by itself and continuously ran. This has happened maybe 20-30 times since august 2017. In order to get the microwave to stop running the caller has to shut off the breaker. Caller says that before she leaves the house she has to shut off the breaker because she is afraid that the microwave may cut on while not home.
4/6/18 Caller contacted Samsung and they would not speak with the caller. Informed caller to contact CPSC.
Caller believes this product is a fire hazard.

In fact, it was so loud that it woke up my daughter who was sleeping upstairs. I contacted Samsung and was told that since it was out of warranty, there was nothing that could be done unless I was injured or had property damage. The loud shattering of the undamaged turntable is clearly a safety issue.

The product, in the report: SAMSUNG, MICROWAVE WITH VENTALATION SYSTEM
On September 26, 2017 at 10:25 PM multi-family apartment complex located in [REDACTED] had a fire in the kitchen. The occupant had heated up a plastic cup of water which contained pasta shells in the microwave for approximately 30 seconds. The tenant noticed the odor of smoke emitting from the microwave and she turned microwave off. The tenant noticed flames inside upper cabinet of the microwave and used a fire extinguisher to attempt to extinguish the fire. Ultimately the fire spread and she and two roommates exited the apartment. The fire sprinkler system activated and ultimately extinguished the fire prior to the fire departments arrival.
Detective [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] with the State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire and the fire was determined to have originate in the inaccessible portion of the microwave toward the top left side of the microwave. All other causes including the duplex receptacle were able to be eliminated as having caused or contributed to the fire. The fire damage sustained to the cooking area of the microwave cabinet was limited to minor smoke discoloration. The upper internal area of the microwave sustained extensive fire damage which spread to the wooden cabinets. The fire was extinguished quickly and the majority of the damage was isolated to the upper section of the microwave cabinet and the fire spread upward and horizontally toward the electrical control panel.

The product, in the report: Samsung over the range microwave oven
We purchased all new Samsung appliances for our new construction home that we are building here in Ohio. My husband was battling cancer and we have been living at our home in Florida. . So we were building this home from a distance. I purchased the microwave in September, so it could be installed with the cabinetry. I cannot locate the sales receipt for that appliance. I have contacted Best Buy and Lowes, which is where we bought most item. Neither place can find a record Of the transaction. Because we were dealing with purchases in Ohio and Florida, I can’t locate the sales slip. My husband died in Florida on January 18. I moved into this house on 1.24. I used the microwave, but none of the special features or settings. I just punched in the cook time. Eleven days later the microwave burst into flames while I was heating an enchilada. The food did not catch on fire, it was a melted plastic panel on the in side of the unit. The product, in the report: Samsung Household Microwave Oven, manufactured date 10-2014, 120Vac, 1.7kW
We were using a baby bottle sanitizer in the microwave in which it requires 5 minutes of run time. We have used this sanitizer with both of our children without any issue. The sanitizer is made completely of plastic, the bottles inside the sanitizer also made of plastic. The microwave was turned on and my wife left the kitchen then she heard an odd popping noise. While she was tracking the noise she saw a fire inside the microwave. She then grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. Looking at the inside of the microwave it appears that the fire started on the right side. The bottle sanitizer did not have any markings on it. She then unplugged the microwave from the wall.

Microwave changes setting and turns on lights and fan by itself. Very concerned it may be a fire hazard if it turns on heating elements or microwave oven (it is microwave and conventional oven).
This happens 2-3 times a day, 3-4 daus a week. I started some time last spring (2016), and has been more and more frequent.
I have seen many similar postings for the same issue with this model on line.

The product, in the report: Samsung Stainless Steel Microwave
I purchased a Samsung Microwave from Sears on 10-04. It wasn’t installed until the end of October. On 11-03-16, my sister was microwaving oatmeal in a bowl when I heard a pop and there was a flash of light. When I looked into the microwave, there was flames inside on the right side of the microwave. I shut the microwave off. Luckily, the fire was smothered out. I unplugged the cord and had the fire department come and check it out as there was a hole burned through the side of the microwave that touches my cabinet. I contacted Samsung about the incident; however, they did not seem too concerned. They told me that someone would get back to me between 4 and 48 hours from then. They did not seem at all concerned that there was a fire in the microwave that they manufactured. Someone did call me from Samsung later that day to set up an appointment to have the microwave looked at. A repair company called me to set up an appointment. When I asked if they were going to replace the microwave, they told me that they only do repairs. Apparently, Samsung didn’t think having your microwave catch on fire was grounds to replace it. I told the repair company that I was not having a microwave that caught on fire repaired. It needed to be replaced. I contacted Sears about the incident and they reacted appropriately. They told me that they would exchange it for a new one. It is insane that Samsung did not seem more alarmed that their product caught fire and that they didn’t offer to replace it. Safety Issue - Product: Samsung 2.1 Cu.Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave (Model # ME21H706MQS/AA).
Problem - this item was purchased new and installed recently (October 11, 2016) - it was installed in my rented condo - my tenants reported to the management company that shortly after it was installed that the microwave was “smoking and has a large hole in the side” where the microwave device is housed. They sent me a picture of the damage caused by an internal blow out thru a metal cover on the right side of the microwave. I will be happy to send you a copy of the photo as proof of the serious nature of this product flaw.
This is a definite safety issue and could have caused personal and/or physical damage to the tenants and/or the condo.
I am sending this to you so other owners of this device will be forewarned.

On September 7, 2016, I came home after being out for a few hours and found my microwave running. I think I saw the numbers 3:40 on the screen. The microwave smelled bad, like the smell of burning. I had not turned the microwave on, and no one else lives in my home. I unplugged it and looked inside and looked light gray inside. I tried plugging it back in and tried setting the clock, but nothing worked. I unplugged it again and left the door open. It is a Samsung microwave oven, MW1245WB/WC/BB/BC/SC.

The product, in the report: Samsung microwave over the range installed with exhaust fan and lamp. 1.7kw made in Malaysia.
Last month I came into my kitchen to find my over-the-range microwave self activated it’s lamp and exhaust fan. I was unable to turn off either feature, except by opening the microwave oven door. I pulled the power cord, and upon repowering the microwave function normally, except the lamp and fan are not powered by switch activation and don’t function. Although I used the microwave and it seemed to function normally, I now realize the turntable is inoperative. I question the microwave. My concern is the electrical issues related to this series of failures. Fires often begin when electricity is misdirected. I checked some internet comments regarding my problem and many others seem to have had similar issues. In some cases, the PCB is the failing components common connection. Other narrative describes the damage found upon inspection of the failed PCB’s, including melted solder terminals and burned boards

The product, in the report: Samsung Microwave oven model #ME21H706MQG, serial #0ALB7WTG902058J
On November 9, 2015, we purchased an entire kitchen suite of Samsung appliances including a French door refrigerator, microwave oven, dishwasher and electric range. After only a few months, the refrigerator’s ice maker no longer worked and I had to contact Samsung for replacement of the entire ice maker unit. For the past 2 months, my microwave oven is no longer functioning properly and I have contacted Samsung support numerous times. Their service contractor, Lakes Electronics, sent a repairmen out 3 wk. ago but he was not sure what the problem was and left without doing anything. After 2 wk. the microwave again stopped working completely, losing its total power and display. I again called Samsung who after 5 days faxed the service order over to Lakes Electronics. Lakes called me and said the first opportunity a technician could service the microwave was in 10 days from then! Mind you, all this time, the microwave was not operational. I again called Samsung yesterday to tell them of my dilemma and while on with customer support, we ran the microwave to discuss in detail what it was doing. Not only is it not running on full power and then loses total power and display, when I felt the right side of the microwave, I burned my finger pads, it was that hot. Customer support told me to unplug the microwave to avoid its catching fire or blowing up which we did! She also typed copious notes into their system for the technician and also told me a product specialist would call me back to lend assistance. I have never heard back from Samsung’s product specialist and am totally dismayed about my purchase of these 4 new kitchen appliances, the refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and electric range. After less than 6 months to have 2 major breakdowns of these appliances tells there is no reliability of them. While they are still under warranty, I am still not happy with these appliances. I requested a new microwave oven from Samsung yesterday and was told that the technician would have to deem this appliance unreparable in order for a new microwave to be given to us. This is totally unacceptable that I have had this brand new appliance for 6 months of use and it is a fire hazard and non-operational. I am hoping Consumer Affairs can lend assistance to us in getting a new microwave oven. Thank you.

The product, in the report: Stainless Samsung Over-the-Range Microwave
My fiancé and I left our home with our daughter at approximately 8AM EST this morning for work. We had both spent significant time in the kitchen before leaving and the microwave was properly functioning (displaying the time, no one had used it since the night before.) When we returned around 5:30PM, there was an electrical smoke smell emanating in the house. My fiancé immediately followed the smell to the kitchen, where he saw our Samsung microwave’s clock was not displaying. Upon opening the microwave, we observed more smoke and the scorched insides of the microwave. The glass turn table had shattered and there was a charred hole in the rear of the interior. There was obvious scorching up the back of the unit as well as on the top. He immediately opened the cabinet above the over-the-range microwave and unplugged it. There was no one in the house during the day, except our dog and 2 cats. The unit appears to have spontaneously combusted.
