The product, in the report: On October 14, 2026, at approximately 2:10 a.m., my husband, [REDACTED], and I were asleep in our Manhattan, New York apartment when our family cat, [REDACTED], began meowing persistently. His behavior awakened me, and I immediately noticed a strong burning odor. Upon entering the kitchen, I discovered that our Mr. Coffee coffeemaker, which was positioned on top of our kitchen stove, was engulfed in substantial flames. The coffeemaker was connected to an electrical outlet but was not actively being used to prepare coffee. The flames were significant and presented an immediate threat to our safety and the surrounding residential property. With no fire extinguisher or suitable fire-suppression material immediately available, I used my personal Burberry London coat to smother the flames and prevent the fire from spreading. My husband also assisted during the emergency. Fortunately, we were able to extinguish the fire before it spread further throughout our apartment. However, the coffeemaker was completely destroyed, my coat sustained substantial fire-related damage, and the kitchen stove beneath the appliance was also damaged.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee BVMC-LM300 coffee maker and frother
I use the Mr Coffee BVMC-LM300 to make coffee and tea drinks. It includes a frother. A piece of metal broke off the frother and ended up in my beverage. It exposed a small magnet that is just glued in place. I reached out to the company to express concern about safety, and they replied that because the product is out of warranty they provide no service. The machine is two years old and only lightly used in a home setting. My concern is that the metal part or magnet could be unknowingly consumed by a person, and the company provided a generic and uninterested response.

The product, in the report: Coffeemaker
This is in regard to the following (pictures enclosed) Melted plug on a Mr. Coffee Model 2151305 Purchased Dec. 2024 Mr. Coffee case number [REDACTED] 8/18/2025 Went to move coffee maker off counter - difficult removing plug from socket. When plug was removed from outlet noticed the plug looked like it had melted and the outlet was melted. (See attached photos) Contacted family friend (retired electrician) the next day who purchased a new socket and installed. I purchased a new Mr. Coffee from Walmart $36.56. 8/23/2025 contact Consumer Service for MR. Coffee - Newell Brands Consumer Service, [REDACTED]. They sent [REDACTED] label and I sent back the old Mr. Coffee Model 2151305 with the melted plug and also the old socket showing the melted area.
9/2/2025 received a check from Newell for purchase of new coffee maker $34.99 10/1/2025 spoke with [REDACTED] he stated their engineers found the coffee maker working properly. Did not even mentioned melted plug or melted damaged socket. He said my claim was denied. I asked if he would send email stating his comment that claim was denied and coffee maker was working or if their engineers could send email, [REDACTED] said he could not do that nor could the engineers.
I never said anything about the coffee maker not working my concern is that the plug is faulty and melting an electrical outlet could have led to electrical fire and damage to my residence.
[REDACTED] avoided the whole issue of a bad plug. If they felt the coffee maker was ok to use why did they send me a check. They have the coffee maker with faulty plug and melted socket. I took pictures of the socket and the plug as you can see they melted. I am sure [REDACTED] was told not to send his reply in any written form.
I felt this should be reported to US Consumer Product Safety.

Mr. Coffee 4-in-1 Single-Serve Latte, Iced, and Hot Coffee Maker with Milk Frother, SKU: SAP_2175542. The product’s instructions list to pour a cup of water into coffee maker’s water reservoir, turn the coffee maker power to on and that after making coffee, the product automatically turns off. The frother has a separate heating element and its own power button, which also automatically turns off based on a short timer. In the morning, my wife poured water into the coffee maker’s water reservoir and the water immediately starting steaming. We found that the coffee maker and frother were extremely hot and had apparently been on for a long time. There had been no water in the water reservoir. The frother’s heating element was also on. The power buttons have lights indicating that they’re on and were not lit up to show they were on. We were the only ones in the house awake. We’re unsure how many hours the coffee maker had been on.

The product, in the report: Mr Coffee Thermal Carafe coffee maker, black
Mr Coffee Thermal Carafe coffee makers can easily result in scalding hot water streaming from the coffee maker all over the counter even though the carafe is in place. Its a serious hazard and should be recalled. If the container that holds the beans is not in place the hot water goes all over and not into the pot. Its incredibly easy to make this mistake since you cant see the container from the front of the machine. The machine will run on a timer even with no check to make sure the container is in place, so its highly likely the coffee maker is completely unattended, with water available for use, but the beans container left out for cleaning, and scalding hot water goes all over the counter, onto the floor, and any small children in the vicinity. I reported it to Mr Coffee and they dismissed it.

Bought a Mr Coffee 12 cup programmable coffee maker at Wal Mart. Tried to make coffee but the hot water came spewing out of the filter, shot hot coffee grounds every where and went all over the coffee maker and counter top. Attempted to make coffee the next two days and reduced both the amount of water used and the amount of coffee grounds in the filter but had the same results.

No one hurt Made Mar 11, 2024, sent to the company May 24, 2024, published by CPSC Jun 10, 2024
The product, in the report: Electric coffee maker
The coffee maker has 2 heaters under the plate that the carafe sets on. One is the boiler and the other maintains the coffee maker’s temperature. The heater for the maintaining the coffee maker’s temperature, either shuts down as the result of a time out, or because one turns of the unit off manually.
That process of terminating the heating plate because it times out, does not shut off and leaves the coffee maker in the “on” position continuously when it is used.
Therefore, the consumer does not use the automatic feature. He unplugs it when done, to prevent a potential fire hazard.
He tested coffee maker several times to see if it responded to another cycle, but it did not.
This does present a potential fire hazard to uses who may not be aware of this.
The consumer also noted that there have been safety problems in the past with this company’s coffee makers.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker Model #: BVMC-BVMC-PC14BL2 Color: Black & Stainless Steel SAP #: 2143561
On September 21, 2023, I purchased a Mr. Coffee 14-cup coffee maker (Model #: BVMC-PC14BL2) from my local Wal-Mart. On December 22, 2023, I discovered that after the 4-hour warming timer expired, the Brew Now light turned off, indicating that it had shut down, but the warmer was still extremely hot and when I attempted to add water for a programmed delayed brew the next morning, it began trying to brew immediately, even though the Brew light was still turned off. The only way to make it turn off was to unplug it.
Thinking it was a fluke, I returned the defective coffee maker to WalMart on December 21, 2023, and exchanged it for a new one of the same model. Yesterday, January 18, less than 30 days after purchase, this new one did the exact same thing.
There are numerous reviews on WalMart and other sites for this coffee maker of other customers experiencing this exact same issue. I believe that this product is not only defective, but poses both a burn injury risk and a fire hazard, and needs to be recalled.
I called Mr. Coffee this morning to advise them of this, and they did offer me a refund. However, I believe that this product is extremely dangerous and needs to be recalled.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee 12 cup coffee maker, model BVMC-EHX33BM-NP. Manufacturing code (on the plug) is “T094 DG”
In May of 2023 I purchased a Mr. Coffee machine. After several uses, one day I noticed that the new machine activated on its own when not in use. The hot plate on the machine that keeps the pot warm was very hot to to touch and would burn someone, which is possible given that the machine was not activated by the user and showed nothing on the display/LEDs indicating it had turned on. The machine had clearly failed “on”, the display was blank and it was unresponsive to button pushes.
I replaced this machine with an identical unit through a warranty return. The replacement coffee maker did the exact same thing after a few uses.
This appears to be the same problem reported on report number [REDACTED] by a different consumer. A cursory review of some retail websites with consumer reviews indicates that this failure mode has been happening on this model. Additionally, given that I encountered it on two different machines (one purchased locally, one shipped from Sunbeam) that were acquired in mid-2023 it may be widespread.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee rapid brew system coffee machine
About a month ago I had purchased a Mr. Coffee coffee machine and I noticed last night that it was on. There were no lights indicating that it was on it . If the product was working properly there should have a light on. Also, it was set on a timer so it shouldn’t have been on. The machine was extremely hot and was steaming. It hd no water in it and like I said there was no indication that the machine was on. The lights were not working. After looking into reviews, I noticed that I am not the only one with this complaint. I feel like this product is a fire hazard. I was not home for most of the day so I don’t know how long the coffee pot was on.. Also, it’s suppose to shut off automatically after 2 hours.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee Espresso Machine: MODEL BVMC-ECM171 Made in China.
I purchased an Mr. Coffee Essresso Machine on 3/25/2023. On 4/3/2023, as the machine was properly setup to brew esspresso coffee .. It blew up .. Meaning the steam pressure blew the holder off and the coffee grounds and steam water went everywhere. If standing next to it, I would’ve got hurt .. and maybe badly. This machine is nothing short of a steam bomb. It is dangerous and it should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Steam Espresso System with Milk Frother (Model number ECM160-RB)
I recently purchased a Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Steam Espresso System with Milk Frother (Model number ECM160-RB). This morning, I went to fill the carafe with water, and the plastic lid/top fell into the carafe. As I pulled it out, the carafe shattered in my hands, inches away from my 8 month old sitting in her highchair. There was virtually no resistance in pulling the top out of the carafe, and I did not have to tug or apply pressure for the glass carafe to shatter and splinter into dozens of pieces. I now have tiny cuts all over my hands.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee Easy Measure 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker - Black
Today, my 28 month-old Mr. Coffee Easy Measure 12 Cup Coffee Maker spontaneously flickered on and off, so I pressed the power button, it flickered again, I turned it off, it flickered, and so on. Meanwhile, the little water remaining in the reservoir from the morning’s brew sputtered as it heated, and the warming element and rest of the unit got hotter and hotter, so I unplugged it. I plugged it in again, and the LED displayed “EC5”. I unplugged and plugged it in again, and the flickering cycle repeated. Today’s experience is a repeat of what happened a couple weeks ago, after which I unplugged it and let it sit unused until 3 days ago, and it worked fine, until today. I [REDACTED] “Mr. Coffee error code” and discovered what appear to be dozens of comments on mrcoffee.com describing similar experiences for this model, in response to each of which is offered a gratuitous reply and no solution. I think this coffee maker is a potential fire hazard, and it doesn’t look like Sunbeam Products is going to do anything about it.

Mr. Coffee / Sunbeam Products Coffee Maker Model SK12. Power switch failure. For approximately 30 days the on/off switch was intermittent as indicated with On/Off light in switch and failure of coffee to brew (heat water). The plastic switch finally froze in the off position. Upon disassembly, the area around the insertion of the lead for the black / ground wire on the back of the plastic switch displayed darkening and melting. Further disassembly was not conducted. Two photographs were taken and are attached.
I feel qualified to conduct this inspection because I ran / owned an independent, high tech failure analysis laboratory for 30 years and have qualified to testify as an expert in court over 100 times. (approx.. 7/2/2021): The consumer noticed a burning odor and lots of smoke in her home. She immediately unplugged the coffee maker and rushed it outside, where she used a hose to spray water on it. The counter that the coffee maker was setting on, was extremely hot to the touch, but it was not burned.
The coffee maker was plugged into the wall outlet at the time of the incident, but it was not in use. The button that indicates “brew now” was depressed. The consumer is concerned that a child could press the brew button on these coffee makers. In her instance, there was a small amount of old coffee left in the coffee maker, when this occurred. She last used the coffee maker approximately 2 days ago.
The consumer called the mfr. and their rep. (name unknown), asked her about the outlet in her home, but the consumer said this had nothing to do with it. The rep. told the consumer that it was the holiday weekend and there was nothing they could do for her at the time she called. Nothing else transpired.

This September 17, 2019 in the afternoon, hours after being turned off and empty, our Mr. Coffee electric, 12 cup coffee maker, about 1 year old, model # bvmc-PJX23 ---- sent billows of smoke and fire. I run into my smoke and smell filled kitchen, pulled the cord out and knocked the coffee maker into the sink, I couldn’t touch it, fire flames were reaching toward the ceiling. Took a long time to extinguish the flames. Because of the smell burned plastic we couldn’t’ spend the night at home. Worst of all, we lost the innocence of feeling safe at home with any plugged in appliance . If we weren’t home, this coffee maker would burn the house down. If we were sleeping, we could be dead!. This is just awful.

The product, in the report: This was sent to me as a replacement for the last recall. The inside of the plastic where the water goes is melted and boiled. This is very unsafe as melted plastic is going through where the water does. Also it means the hot water must be boiling back up inside or steaming up in there and can cause an explosion or burn. Also this should be made aware because I only noticed it when trying to clean my machine and looked inside, most people do not look in there where they pour the water and can be getting poisoned too. I contacted the company and they do not want to send a replacement without me sending and paying to send this back and then they said there was no guarantee of that either.
My Mr. Coffee Keurig single cup brewer machine is melting the plastic inside the water reservoir and that polluted melted plastic is going into the water that goes into the coffee cup. This also means that most likely the hot water is coming back up into the brewer and could cause a burn or explosion. I have contacted the company and because it was not the model number in the recall they refuse to replace it. This is very unsafe and needs to be taken care of because most people don’t look down into the bottom of the water reservoir. I only looked because I was trying to clean mine and pods kept bursting.

She stated that the back of her hand received minor burn from the splash. No medical attention was necessary.. Caller is concerned that if it had been her older sibling it could have resulted into serious injuries. She stated that this unit is a replacement of the original coffeemaker she had which was leaking coffee approximately less than 1 year.
The manufacturer was contacted and she was advised that they would send out a replacement, however, its the design of the lid that is the safety issue which should be addressed.

The product, in the report: Model ECM250
I have an older Mr. Coffee Expresso Maker model ECM250. While steaming milk today when I turned the knob to switch to the brew mode, the plastic shaft on the knob snapped in two leaving the unit in the steam mode. This is a safety issue as even when I unplugged the unit to be able to turn it “off”, the steam continued as the pressure does not dissipate quickly. I had to gently loosen the top to allow the pressure to release. That is not safe as a burn could result from the steam. A plastic part should not be used for a part that is constantly subject to the torque on this item.

This unit developed a defect. It worked fine for about 9 months. Now the heating element in the unit does not shut off when the water reservoir empties allowing the heating unit to continue to run. Started to smell burning plastic smell. Likely a fire would have occurred had I not unplugged the unit.
Now the power switch does not allow you to turn it off either - so you have what is essentially a coffee maker with no water running with the heating element on. Bad situation.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee espresso maker
Was making espresso this afternoon for my wife and I. As I walked back to the machine to check on the progress, the filter basket came loose from the machine, striking and shattering the glass carafe below it. I was sprayed with extremely hot coffee, grounds and small glass bits, some of which stuck into my skin above my right hip. My kitchen was covered in coffee, grounds and glass shards and splinters from the carafe.
The machine is a Mr. Coffee, model BVMC-ECM260. Looking through previous reports, I see this is not the first time Mr. Coffee has released an espresso machine suffering from this defect; another model was recalled about 20 years ago for the exact same problem.

Following the instructions on my new coffee maker, i filled the reservoir with water and ran a cleansing run prior to running the machine with coffee. When the cycle had finished, and the pot was completely full of hot water, I lifted the carafe by the handle, the handle detached from the top of the carafe, spilling boiling water onto the coffeemaker and onto the counter.

ECM260 Mr Coffee Espresso Maker Blows off the filter cup explosively. Three times in a row. I inspected it each time, thoroughly cleaned it and retried. It isn’t untorqueing, the filter assembly explodes straight down, blasting a three foot area with grounds and steam, and knocking the carafe over and across the counter. This is an extreme hazard to anyone near it.

MR. COFFEE model VBX23, prong numbers C273(might be G273), ESC We set up coffee pot in evening, so all we have to do in morning is press ON. Got up in the morning twice to find a cold pot of coffee. It had started on its own without being set for “Delay Brew.” Then, happened to be up at midnight and heard the thing start on its own for the third time! Took it back to store for refund, and reported to Mr.Coffee on line. No admission it might be a safety problem. WORSE, found another of same model stashed in the basement, which I forgot about. We can use that one, it should be OK. GUESS WHAT?? It did the same thing. What happens if there is no water in it when it starts? Could it start a fire?

I put water into the coffeemaker reservoir and turned it on to brew. After a couple of minutes, I smelled burning and the coffeemaker had smoke coming from the back of it. After unplugging it, I realized the bottom of the coffee maker had a melted hole in it, exposing the electrical parts . The coffee maker at that time had also started a burn hole in my counter top. The coffee maker hot plate detached from the bottom frame of the coffeemaker where you place the pot. The plastic is melted around where the hotplate connects to the bottom frame in addition to the hole on the bottom. I have contacted Mr. Coffee through e-mail. This was brand new purchased at Walmart. Please advise on this matter. I can e-mail photos and send product if Mr. Coffee reimburses for shipping. It was only twenty dollars but this could have been a fire situation. Thank-you. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: iced tea maker the model number is TM1_11EM1
I received a new Mr. Coffee 2 Qt. Fresh Tea Maker yesterday, and attempted to use it today. It has an “on” button/switch, and the directions indicate that it should be pressed in order to begin the brew cycle. However, it began sending hot water out as soon as it was plugged in, all over my hand. I am not badly burned, but I did receive a mild one despite reacting quickly. We tried several more times (prepared this time) to plug it in and toggle the switch, but it started immediately each time. I assume the product I have is defective, but online reviews often mention that it can be difficult to turn on. Mr. Coffee’s website suggests that this is because the button can be stiff at first. I believe I experienced something similar, except that it is always on instead of always off.
The directions included with the product say to plug the power cord into the electrical outlet and push the ON button to begin the brewing cycle. Upon closer inspection, the unit itself does have a warning embossed onto the top (white on white, very difficult to read) that says to prevent injury do not plug unit in until water is in the reservoir and pitcher is in place. However, it is difficult to read, and this information is not included with the instructions.

This is concerning a replacement decanter for a MR. COFFEE 10 and 12 cup. for Coffee makers : EJ,ET,IS,LM AND VM series. I simply dropped and broke the previous one as my mistake. My wife purchased this at Target store in Grapevine Texas. Upon the first use when the decanter was lifted from the maker the black plastic handle separated from the glass bottom. The glass bottom fell and shattered on the counter top and splashed hot coffee on me and sent glass and hot coffee across the counter top and floor. After cleaning up I noticed that the black plastic handle seemed to be intact. The top rim of the glass decanter was intact. These is a silicone type material around the rim that wound have been between the glass and the black handle assembly. This silicone looked to have one clear crack through it and several below the surface.

The product, in the report: The part is Mr. Coffee brew basket for BVMC-PSTX series, part #137034-000-000
Mr. Coffee maker with stainless steel carafe apparently has a manufacturing problem with the brew basket that can result in hot coffee being released at the bottom of the basket when the carafe is removed. The “button” and spring at the bottom of the basket is poorly made and comes off easily so the stream of coffee continues if the carafe is removed during brewing to pour a cup. I’ve tried to find a replacement part and it is not available. At various sites I’ve found similar complaints, including the Mr. Coffee replacement parts site. Apparently these break often and no one seems to be able to find a solution.
It’s a minor thing that it’s an expensive coffee maker; the major problems are the real possibility of being burned (to say nothing of the mess created) and the unavailability of a solution.

The product, in the report: Coffee maker
I have a Mr Coffee VBX23 model coffee maker. I’ve had it for about 2 years. While using it today, the unit start producing smoke.
It had completed the brewing cycle about 5 to 10 minutes before the incident and the hot plate was on to keep the coffee warm. I noticed that it was producing quiet popping-like sounds, and shortly later, I smelled the smoke. Smoke was quickly coming out of the rear of the unit, where the electrical cord goes into it. I quickly unplugged the unit, brought it outside, and hosed it down to prevent a fire. I double checked and there were no items resting or close to the coffee making that would have been the source of the smoke.

My Mr. Coffee coffee maker overheated to a degree that could have caused burns or a fire. I purchased the coffee maker only a few months ago. I was brewing coffee as normal, and the unit became so hot by the buttons and clock that I would have burned myself touching it if I hadn’t put on oven mitts. It also didn’t turn off correctly after the normal two hour cut-off. If I had not been home to unplug it, I believe it would have started a fire. I am very careful to follow the instructions carefully, and I don’t overfill the water tank or coffee filter. The model number is BVMC-SJX33GT. The time code is G070. The purchase location code is DG. I purchased the model about April 12th or so at Wal-Mart.

While using the coffee maker it had completed its cycle and she noticed that it opened up and expelled coffee all over the room which caught her on the side of her right face. She received minor burns, no medical attention was needed. Fortunately she was not closer to the unit.
2/2014 She went online and found out it was recalled, the manufacturer was contacted and the item returned as instructed. She just wanted this incident to be added to the agency’s database. The product model number is affected by the recall.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee 12 cup programmable coffee maker.
We bought a brand new Mr. Coffee maker from Wal- Mart. Model BVMC-SJX36GTWM upon initially running water through the coffee maker, the top of the handle detached from the pot. My wife snapped the handle back on. Water was spilled all over the cabinet. The following morning we tried to make coffee and the same thing happened. This presents a very dangerous situation, hot coffee can be spilled on someone, being secured at only one point the pot can shatter, sending hot coffee and glass everywhere. There is no adjustment in the band that holds the lower part of the handle to the pot.

I have my doubts that the replacement pot will be an improvement as the design if faulty.

The product, in the report: Mr Coffee Espresso Maker Model # BVMC-ECM260
I’m writing to you today to inform you of the explosion I had in my house due to your Mr Coffee Espresso Maker Model # BVMC-ECM260.
I purchased this machine at Walmart about 1 week ago because it was a name I thought I could trust in an appliance and the fact that it was black and stainless steel and matched my kitchen.
On 9/8/13 I took it out of the box for the first time and set it up. I read the instructions and did everything it said to do. I set up the machine and walked to the other side of my kitchen to finish cleaning. The machine starts to pour coffee and I walk back over to the machine. All of a sudden it explodes in my face! Glass hot coffee hot coffee grounds are now everywhere all over me and my kitchen.
The glass didn’t just break the actual filter holder flew off just missing my face and the glass shattered and flew everywhere. I had coffee and glass in my hair and all over my kitchen. From the ceiling to the other side of the kitchen.
My 1 year old daughter was right behind me and thank god she was not touched by anything. I took the full hit.
I was not harmed enough to seek medical attention but this could have been much worse. I have used a different brand machine for years and have never had this issue. I know I put the filter holder on correctly as I have used many espresso machines.
After the hour and a half it took to clean my kitchen and myself I sat down to look up why it could happen (which I am still finding coffee and glass everywhere). What do I see but more and more stories of the same thing happening with Mr. Coffee machines.
Each time all I see is the same response to every complaint please contact us. I want this product recalled. No one should have this happen to them! Some one can get seriously injured and your company having known of the issue for such a long period of time (I see complaints as far back as 2011) could be facing a ton in damages.

The product, in the report: Mr Coffee made by Sunbeam Corporation, Black in color, Automatic with brew delay
After brewing pot of coffee, my machine did not shut off. I have a Mr. Coffee 12 cup auto brewer made by Sunbeam Corporation. Approximately 1.5 hours after the pot had brewed, the element came on, and started to crackle. I went to the brewer and could smell burning wire(electrical). I have researched the web, trying to find out if there was a recall, as I believe that there is a serious fire hazard. The unit was purchased at Walmart in Bellingham Washington last December. The model number is BVMC-AMX23. I am not concerned about replacing, but would like to ensure that this is not a hazard to people who may leave the device plugged in and leave the house to go to work or whatever.

The product, in the report: electric single cup coffee maker
(8/1/2013) The coffee had just finished brewing and the cup was full. The consumer bent over to pick up her cup and the latch on the top of the machine’s reservoir flew open. Steam and hot coffee grounds hit the consumer in her face. The consumer sustained a burn to her right breast, her chest, her lips and the right side of her face. Some of her burns have developed into blisters. The consumer had her eyeglasses on and the right lens has turned black in color.
The consumer’s niece is a doctor. Based on the consumer’s description, the niece told her that the burns did not sound like they were 3rd degree. She advised the consumer to treat them with Neosporin and pure Aloe Vera. The consumer said that as she rubbed the Aloe Vera on her face, some of her skin began to come off.
The consumer had not used the coffee maker in a while, but she stated that it has been used less than 2 weeks in the total amount of time that she has owned it.
(8/1/2013) The consumer searched the Internet and saw Recall CAP# 12-263. She called the firm’s recall number, Tel: 800-993-8609, but indicated that she had difficulty speaking with a live person. She said that the automated message indicated if she didn’t have the model number, she’d have to call back later. The consumer said that the it seemed as if the recorded system wanted her to do everything electronically and she did not hear an option where she could speak with a live person. She does plan to try to the number again.

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee Espresso machine
I purchased a Mr. Coffee espresso machine from Wal Mart on 5/27/13. I followed the instructions included with the appliance, including performing the ‘test run’ using just water. I brewed my first pot using espresso coffee and just before the end of the brew cycle, I turned away from the machine to get a coffee cup. Right after I turned, there was a huge exploding sound and the brew basket blew off the machine, the glass carafe shattered, and hot espresso went everywhere. There was broken glass, coffee grounds, and hot espresso all over me - my kitchen - and even in my dining room. The walls and ceiling in my kitchen were covered in grounds and espresso. If I had not turned away from the machine when I did, the flying glass and metal parts would have hit me in the face. NOT A SAFE APPLIANCE!

At the end of the brewing cycle our Mr Coffee coffee maker began to spew an unusual amout of steam and make louder than normal sputtering sounds. I went over to it and found it was so hot I could not touch the upper part without burning myself. I turned the on/off switch off and unplugged it.
Apparently the element did not shut off when the brewing water was gone.
If this had happened when I was not in the house or that room to notice it I feel it could have melted and possibly started a fire.

I turned on my new Mr. Coffee Espresso maker model #BVMC ECM260 this AM. This first cup went fine. I started a second cup about 30-60 minutes later. The steam started coming out, then the whole thing blew up - the basket blew off (it WAS on all the way), the pot smashed and hot coffee, coffee grounds (wet of course) and glass plastered my kitchen cabinets, and everything that was on them, broke 2 vases, and covered my floors and walls with coffee grounds and glass. Burned me because steam kept spewing out and got nicks and scratches from the flying glass.

I then tried unplugging the unit, and then resetting it, but the unit would operate again. The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee® Single Cup Brewing System - designed for use with the [REDACTED]
I received scalding burns from hot wet coffee grounds when the top blew open and sprayed me with the contents of the [REDACTED] that I was brewing at the time. It was unfortunate that I was within range when it happened. This has occurred several times with this brewer.
I have my ideas as to why this is happening being a person that works with steam and steam systems. The [REDACTED] receives hot water and at the end of the cycle some steam occurs as the water empties out of the tank. It is my belief that this action causes or caused the plastic cup to swell in the only direction that it could. i.e., up and down. When that happened the pressure against the lid causes it to pop open, this of course releases the pressure in the cup ejecting some of the contents. I have had to clean up after the pot a several times and got burned once.
My body was marked from where I got burned and I am hoping that they will heal completely. As a safety hazard, I would hope that you redesign the lid to prevent it from opening. I could not see any obstructions in the lower needle but I can not guarantee that there wasn’t any there at the time(s) of the incidents.
The device and a few [REDACTED] were returned to the manufacture in the hopes of getting a recall on the books to prevent others from suffering un-necessary burns

The product, in the report: Mr. Coffee Coffeemaker BVMC-SJX33GT. GLASS CARAFE
Mr. Coffee coffee BVMC-SJX33GT had just finished brewing and was on warming cycle when I heard a strange popping noise. I looked at the machine and saw what I thought was steam. But upon closer inspection realized the coffeemaker was actually smoking and emitting the smell of melting plastic. I unplugged the machine immediately. The coffeemaker was 3.5 months old. It was used once daily and cleaned regularly.

The product, in the report: Mr Coffee Keurig single cup coffee maker. Model #BVMC-KG1
On Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day, I was making a cup of coffee on my Mr. Coffee Keurig coffee maker. I stood in front of the coffee maker, waiting for it and when it was almost done, I started to turn for the milk. I heard a loud pop and the hot wet coffee grounds shot out and burned my right check, neck and shoulder.
I quickly reached for a dishtowel and started rinsing off the coffee grounds in the sink. That wasn’t enough so I ran and jumped in the shower.
When I came back to investigate, I saw that the part of the coffee maker that holds the little coffee cup had fallen open and the cup’s foil top had a large hole in it. There was wet coffee grounds all over the counter and floor.
My husband came to see why I was yelling and wanted to take me to emergency. I was busy with mother’s day preparations and I didn’t want to waste hours in Emergency, waiting to be seen. On Sunday, when my family saw my burns, they were upset that I hadn’t seeked professional help right away, so early Monday I did see a doctor.
I have blisters on my face and neck. Some as large as a quarter. My doctor says I will have scars.

The product, in the report: 4 cup Mr. Coffee coffeemaker
My 4 cup Mr. Coffee coffeemaker spontaneously turned itself on in the kitchen with no one anywhere near it. It hadn’t been used in over 3 weeks and there had not been anyone in the room for over 3 hours. It was making a snapping sound and when I unplugged it from the wall, the entire unit was extremely hot. I live alone, so there was no one who could have accidently bumped it or hit the on button.

The product, in the report: coffee maker
1- fire hazzard/toxic smoke, with Mr Coffee model# ISX43-1, purchased 11--18-2011.
*** Important to note, if I was not 20 feet away from the coffee maker, it would have erupted into a fire, on my kitchen counter. What if this happen over night, while it was on the built in timer, to brew at 6:00AM, and I was upstairs sleeping? My family would be dead, because of this product.
Here is exactly what happened: I came downstairs, poured a cup of coffee, which was brewed on the timer, and proceeded to go sit at my desk, 20 feet away, turn on my computer, and start my day. Just after approximately 10 minute, I heard a boiling sound, coming from the Mr Coffee. I got up to check, and found it strange, since I know I did not spill coffee onto the hot plate, under the glass pot. Just as I got there, it starting sparking and smoking, from the bottom. I removed the pot of made coffee, turned off the maker, and pulled the plug, which was hot, by the way, to stop the sparks/smoke and the electrical shorting sounds, eminating from the bottom of the maker. The smoke was incredibly toxic smelling and caused me to breath very difficultly. I immediately, took the maker outside in the back yard, opened the windows in my house, turned on the exhaust fan, for several hours, to get the smoke and toxic odor out.
*** besides the fire hazzard, just exactly what type of PCPs are part of the plastic components, and electrical wiring inside this thing, made of, which affected my breathing ?
This is definitely a life threatening machine, and the public must be made aware of this danger.
Thank You for your help
