The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Classic Toaster Oven Broiler TOB-30BW. http://www.cuisinart.com/discontinued/toaster_ovens/tob-30bw.html

I have a Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven. The switches have always seemed unsure of themselves. The middle rotary switch that changes the unit from bake to broil to toast has given out. It did not last a year. Something arcs inside of the unit and it leaks smoke and makes the sound of electricity jumping. There is greenish light flickering from the inside. I can’t use it anymore because of the smoke. I don’t feel safe leaving it plugged in. Consumer stated that she feels that the oven automatically increased to broil which caused the incident.

12/6/11 Consumer contacted the manufacturer but was advised there was no report of this incident and those particular toaster oven were no longer manufactured.

Made Nov 22, 2011, sent to the company Dec 1, 2011, published by CPSC Dec 15, 2011

The product, in the report: Toaster-Over-Broiler

In August 2011, we received the Cuisinart TOB-40 as a gift. It worked great at first. We used it for multiple methods, toasting and baking. About two weeks ago, after using the baking setting, I turned the machine as usual by turning it to off as well as turning the temperature to the lowest setting. I walked away and few minutes later smelled a melting plastic type of smell. I went back into the kitchen and saw the heating element was still going. I unplugged everything and eventually and the machine cooled down. I used it again this evening, and the same thing happened. Without any power feeding the machine, it was still getting power somehow. I researched other reviews about the machine and saw the same comments appearing. I called Cuisinart and although they said they are sending a replacement of the machine, I do not trust this product will be safe to use. Cuisinart said the unit shouldn’t function like that and I have to agree.

Using toast mode, the toaster oven never shut off and could not be turned off. I had to unplug the unit to get the unit to turn off.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Exact Heat Convection Toaster Oven Broiler CTO-390 Series

I bought a Cuisinart Exact Heat Convection Oven Broiler CTO-390 Series on August 10, 2011. I throughly read all instructions and began using the Cuisinart CTO-390 Toaster Oven on August 11,2011. On the evening of August 16, 2011 I was heating up 12 taquitos using the bake option. Thank GOD nobody was in the kitchen because we all heard an explosion and came back to find the glass door had exploded glass up to 15 feet away. The taquitos had not even been in for the 15 minutes that was recommended, the timer had not gone off yet.

Unfortunately after calling Cuisinart the only option they gave me was to pay out of my pocket to have the damaged toaster oven sent to them. I am very thankful my family was not harmed and hope this can help other families avoid a catastrophic event like this from harming them.
