The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electrolux PLDB999CC0 Stainless Steel 33 3/4” high, 23 7/8” wide, 24 1/4” deep, 20amp 120v AC
I was in the kitchen while my dishwasher was running. I heard a loud zapping noise, and smoke started to come out of my dishwasher. I opened it up to discover smoke coming from the dishwasher door. I immediately got our fire extinguisher. Then, I closed the door and turned the dishwasher back on for a second. The zapping noise continued and more smoke came out. I immediately turned off the dishwasher. The smoke dissipated slowly.
My husband disconnected the dishwasher from the electrical circuit and opened up the dishwasher front panel. The circuit board at the top of the door was burned.
I am so thankful I was standing right there when it happened. My dad’s house burned down as a result of the Maytag rinse-aid defect. I cannot believe that the same thing almost happened to me.

Hurt, care not known Made May 10, 2012, sent to the company Jul 9, 2012, published by CPSC Jul 23, 2012
The product, in the report: Frigidaire Professional Series Under the Counter dishwasher (Stainless Steel)
The consumer wanted to illustrate some of her concerns about her under the counter dishwasher as she discovered that the lower spray arm of the dishwasher is melting. The mechanism consists of a combination of metal and plastic. The metal appears to have gotten so hot during a cycle and caused the plastic to melt. The consumer is not sure when this began to happen.
The consumer has pre-existing allergies and has noticed an increase in her symptoms in the last month as she has been feeling sick and dizzy as of last month. The consumer has stated for the last month that she has noticed the dishwasher’s control panel has been displaying an error code of CL towards the end of the washing cycle indicating the closing lock mechanism is not functioning.
CONSUMER ADDED: In the fall the consumer began to have ocular migraine and saw an eye doctor about the problem, also saw Family Doctor. Returned to Family Doctor and he believed the melting of the plastic in the dishwasher caused the ocular migraines.
The consumer called the firm today and they were not willing to help her because the warranty expired on the unit. The consumer is not sure of the retailer as the dishwasher was in the home when she first moved in to the home. The consumer has not called the fire department or her home insurance company about the concern about the dishwasher.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire dishwasher Model No. FDB4315LF
During the wash cycle, the dishwasher became so hot the countertop above was too hot to touch and we smelled smoke. After tripping the breaker to be certain it stopped heating, I waited for it to cool down. When I opened the door, the sprayer arm and part of the door assembly and styrofoam was melted, as well as several plastic items and the handles of two knives. When I called the service number, I was told the machine was out of warranty (by only a few months) and the only thing they offered was a slight reduction in the price of new dishwasher. After MUCH arguing with successive levels of personnel at Frigidaire, they agreed to pay for the parts to repair it and we agreed to pay for the labor.
I WAS NOT SATISFIED AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FRIGIDAIRE PRODUCT.
The machine was repaired after about two weeks (initially the wrong parts were sent for the repair) and we have used it (only when we are at home and awake, as I DO NOT feel safe otherwise) until we can afford to replace it. I believe the Frigidaire company should have replaced the machine and paid for the damaged utensils.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery Stainless Steel 24” Dishwasher
After regular dishwasher use, a cycle ran over night, the dishwasher door leaks water onto the floor upon opening. Sears Home Repair has been to our house 8 times to repair the product issue but to no avail. Sears says that this may be a known issue from the manufacturer, Electrolux. There is no current fix, we are told, but to continue calling Sears and have Sears call Electrolux about the problem. The technician from Sears Home Repair tells me that the steam in the dishwasher is captured in a vent in the door. The steam is then cooled down with the ambient air, forming water. The water is then to drip down the vent tube and empty into the dishwasher tub. But the water does not make it to the tub, instead spilling onto our floor. We were told by the manufacturer that we should wait a day or two to let the water evaporate in the tube, but what is the point of having a dishwasher wash my dishes if I can’t use them for two days? So I humored Electrolux and waited a full 24 hours before opening the door. And the I got the same result. Water from the tube spilled out of the door and on my floor. The vent tube has been replaced. An “absorbing sponge” at the bottom of the vent tube has also been replaced. A tech from Sears made a home made flap consisting of rubber and duct tape and said it would be a good temporary fix. None of these fixes, temporary or permanent, have fixed the problem. Sears has been here 8 times! This is unacceptable and am calling Sears tomorrow to request they take the dishwasher back.

The product, in the report: Build in Dishwasher portal dishwasher 18”
The consumer said that on 04/04/2010 he set his dishwasher on the normal cycle at about 8:30 a.m. The consumer left his house 25 to 30 minutes after starting the dishwasher. He did not notice any problems with the dishwasher during the time he was in the house. The consumer stated that glassware, silverware and plastic containers were inside the dishwasher. The consumer said that in the past he has had problems with the dishwasher melting plastic dishes and plastic containers. He couldn’t put any plastic material on the bottom shelf of the dishwasher, because of this problem. The consumer received a few phone calls that morning. One of the phone calls was the consumer’s daughter. She told her father that she heard in the local news and on the radio that his home was on fire. The consumer said that a neighbor that was walking in front his house, when he saw flames near the kitchen ceiling. The neighbor called his own father and the fire department. The consumer’s neighbor and his father broke the consumer’s back door and got a hose and extinguished the flames and put out the fire. When the father arrived to his house, the fire department and his neighbor were standing outside. The fireman confirmed that the cause of the fire was the dishwasher. The consumer contacted his home insurance company and the dishwasher manufacturer and explained the incident. The consumer’s insurance took care of all of the damage in the kitchen ($20,000.00). The consumer had to pay a $1,000.00 deductible. The consumer has had a claim with the manufacturer since the incident happened 21 months ago and he is still waiting for the manufacturer to resolve the matter. The consumer feels that his dishwasher poses a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire (Electrolux) Dishwasher
My Frigidaire dishwasher model: FDB1050REC2 had been leaking slightly so I checked underneath and the plug where the heating element was attached to the dishwasher had overheated, causing the seal to burn away and allowing water to leak through the seal. This water leaked onto the wired terminal and caused a short as well as some substantial corrosion. This is a clear safety hazard.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery 24” Stainless Steel Dishwasher
My 18 month son old son was playing with his toys on his belly in front of the dishwasher. While playing, he lifted his foot and sliced it open on his right heel. The injury was caused by an exposed stainless steel edge on the back side of the dishwasher’s stainless steel front panel. The injury required 7 stitches and still hasn’t fully healed (not to mention the trauma his parents endured). No doubt this is a manufacturer design flaw as this edge should have been beveled up to prevent an exposed edge. This needs to be corrected immediately to prevent future injury.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire/Electrolux Dishwasher; model number FDBB944CB0. Color: Black; Size: 24” width (fits in standard kitchen cabinet space);
I purchased and installed a dishwasher several years ago. It is a Frigidaire Model FDB944CB0. Soon after installation, I began noticing a burning smell when using the heat dry option. I rarely use this option, but as time goes on the smell seems to get worse. After power outages, the unit seems to reset itself to include the activation of the Heat Dry option and we don’t realize it until the burning takes place. Last week, the dishwasher ran through its cycle, and upon entering the heat dry mode it started burning. My wife was the only one home, and she was upstairs. A neighbor came over to see if our kitchen was on fire...that is how bad the smell got. During these episodes, we are forced to manually shut the dishwasher off and wait for the smoke to clear before removing the dishes and turning the heat dry option off so it does not happen the next time. With the heat dry option off, the dishwasher appears to run with no issues. I have a repair issue with another unrelated appliance, and I thought i would enter in the information on the dishwasher to see if there was information on how to repair it. What I have found are numerous reports of fire and/or similar issues with heating elements burning the inside of the tub during high heat dry cycles. I decided to post this complaint in hopes that it will put the number over the threshold required for an investigation/ safety recall.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Built-in dishwasher Model Number: FDB1100RHM
Purchased the Frigidaire dishwasher Model Number: FDB1100RHM in October 2009. On August 5, my wife returned home five hours later and found the dishwasher stuck in cycle. As a result the heat element continued to heat and the poor design resulted in the collapse of the element and it burned two holes in the tub. This created a potential fire hazard if we had been away from the house for an extended period of time.
After receiving the response from Frigidaire that offered little solution, I shopped this weekend to find the exact diswasher has had a design change in the heating element. They moved from a large square element to a small, better supported round element. This change would have prevented the collapes of my element.
Frididaire has not accepted any responsibility for the results, have offered little response. I believe that this design problem could creat problems for other owners of the older model. I have photos of the damage and the new model change. I would like to provide to you for your review.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire dishwasher
I have a Frigidaire 900 series that is about 7 years old, model #PLDB998C0, serial#TH35086970. Tonight my Frigidaire dishwasher caught fire. I smelled burning plastic smoke and came downstairs to find smoke emanating from behind the electronic controls on the top of the washer door. My wife turned off the circuit breaker and I removed the dishwasher front panel and plastic cover to find the circuit board charred and the wiring scorched along with melting of the plastic that covered the circuit board. I feel extremely fortunate that this occurred in the evening before my family went to sleep, otherwise the results could have been catastrophic if a fire started at night while everyone was asleep. I was surprised that the smoke from the burned circuit board and melted plastic cover continued for several minutes after we turned off the power at the breaker. I still have a headache from breathing the fumes more than an hour ago. I have spent the last hour looking online to see if my dishwasher model has been recalled. I could not find any recall info, but I found many reports from other consumers who have experienced the same problem. It seems that there is a severe safety hazard with these Frigidaire dishwashers and a recall seems appropriate to me if there have been multiple reports of actual damage.
