The product, in the report: Huggies little movers size 3 diapers. Ever since the change to their manufacturer.
My son was using huggies diapers for almost a whole year when the liner was white. Since the liner changed to blue my son has suffered chemical burns on his groin/crotch/genitals. It took almost a month for it to fully go away. Once we realized it was the diapers about a week in we switched to [REDACTED] and have no issues thus far.

No incident, no one hurt Made Jun 23, 2025, sent to the company Jul 7, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 28, 2025
The product, in the report: Huggies Overnight Diapers size 6, Huggies Overnight Diapers size 7, Huggies Little Movers Diapers size 6
Huggies Little Movers and Huggies Overnight diapers had a recent change in their manufacturing/products. The inside of the diapers now have a blue liner around of the outside and back of the diaper (like around the legs and the part of the diaper that sits on the lower back). This liner used to be white. For both styles of diapers and in multiple sizes these diapers with the blue style liner break open, causing gel beads to get everywhere. The products have been used following manufacturing guidelines. Daytime diapers we change frequently and the overnight diapers are advertised as lasting up to 12 hours. If our son sleeps through the night we do not wake him up to change a diaper that is wet with urine. The absorbent gel beads clump together but are easily broken apart which leads to thousands of tiny beads everywhere. These gel beads have made it out of the broken diaper and out of my sons clothes. This is a huge risk as they could very easily be ingested.

The product, in the report: Huggies little movers diapers. [REDACTED] design on the front and back. Ruffles on the side. Size 6 diapers.
I recently bought a pack of Huggies because my usual diapers werent available. I saw that the Huggies were slightly cheaper than the other brands. Ive used this brand before when my child was a newborn and I didnt have any problems. That being said, my daughter was wearing Huggies from Monday afternoon until Friday evening. Thursday morning, I saw she had developed a mild diaper rash. Only slightly pink. Friday evening after a bath, this mild rash had developed into what looked like a chemical burn! There were open lesions on her vagina and towards her anus. I had to throw the entire pack away.

The product, in the report: They were the Huggies snug and dry size 3
I in used 1 diaper out of a brand new package of the Huggies snug and dry my baby instantly got a rash that turned into welps then to blisters and I took the diaper off as soon as I saw the rash and put [REDACTED] on her. She was in screaming pain and her whole private area looked horrible. I have pictures of the wounds without the private parts in it if I could send them but after not putting those diapers back on her the blisters have seemed to go down a lot and we havent tried anything else new recently so that was the only thing it could have been. As a mother I am VERY concerned and UPSET that this has happened to my baby especially because shes in pain now.

The product, in the report: Huggies Pull-ups Training pants 4T-5T
Purchased a box of Huggies Pull-ups from Costco. Upon opening the box, I was gagged by the overwhelming chemical smell in the box and also while opening the individual bags. The Pull-ups themselves also have a strong chemical smell. I will NOT be using these on my child, and am very disturbed that companies are allowed to use such offensive chemicals for Baby products!
I have not breathed normally since opening this box, and can taste it in my mouth still.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Nov 9, 2021, sent to the company Nov 23, 2021, published by CPSC Dec 8, 2021
The product, in the report: Huggies Snug & Dry diapers
9/25/2021: The consumer said her soon to be 12 month old, grandson, developed a skin a rash, which resembled 3rd degree burns. This particular diaper has a blue liner inside of them. The consumer keeps her grandson five (5) days during the week and he wore this brand at her home. But when he was not staying with her, he wore Huggies Movers brand and did not experience the skin irritation. It was his groin and butt areas and everywhere that the diaper came into contact, which were affected.
The daughter-in-law took the child to his pediatrician. The child was treated and prescribed an ointment to apply to the affected area.
It took approximately 5 weeks for the child to get better and he is just starting to show signs of healing.
10/2021: The consumer contacted the manufacturer and suggested that they remove it from the market. Their rep. took her information and offered to send her a gift card. Nothing else was offered to the consumer
The worst part of the incident, was that they could not identify what was causing the issue, for two weeks.
The consumer said that her children found that there were lawsuit on-line against this company in California for this exact problem.

The product, in the report: Huggies snug and dry and Huggies little movers+plus diaper with Mickey Mouse print size 5
I used Huggies snug and dry [REDACTED] and little movers plus for 5 days and within the first day my son who rarely gets diaper rash developed a diaper rash that was severely painful to the touch. His typical diaper rash cream was not working against it. I also noticed his penis tip was peeled and red. I continued applying cream and That did not solve the problem and it got worse. After having the rash for 5 days I decided to switch diaper brands. I switched to the [REDACTED] with no ointment at all. Immediately during his next diaper change I saw an improvement. This was with no ointment cream or anything. Something is in the Huggies diapers that irritates babies bottoms. I’ve heard thousands of other parents talk about their experiences as well. I never had an issue until this last pack.

The product, in the report: Package of 88 Size 3 diapers
This caller is reporting size 3 box of 88 diapers purchased from retailer in [REDACTED] around Sunday, November 19, 2017. Lot# on inside package of 22 diapers PA727406B 0316, on the box the UPC# 03600040812 6 _ PA727406X 03:22 __ Department# HLSG53-88 Caller’s daughter opened the box and got one of the diapers out to put it on her 5 month old baby, then opened the diaper, but when she ran her hand down the side it scratched her right thumb. She put these diapers to the side and used old ones that she had used previously. When the daughter returned home from work the following day she and the caller (her mother) went through the diapers purchased around November 19th and found six more diapers with the sharp objects in them. This is six out of twenty two. They are using the diapers that do not have the sharp objects in them after checking each diaper very carefully. She is asking that these diapers be inspected to identify the sharp objects before a baby is injured by them. The caller contacted Huggies November 21, 2017 but was advised only to send the diapers to them and they would refund her money. She said that this is unacceptable and is reporting this as a potentially severe laceration hazard for babies whose caregivers may not notice the sharpness.

The product, in the report: Huggies Slip on Diapers 20 count Sz 5
My daughter developed a severe staph infection after using Huggies Slip-on diapers. She ended up in the hospital to have a large abscess drained and was placed on IV antibiotics. The problem specifically started with the diapers. This was our first time using Huggies on her. After wearing 2 of the diapers she broke out in weird little pimples, not like a normal diaper rash. Some went away others begin to swell, so she was placed on an antibiotic cream. After it didn’t clear, we suspected the diapers. But by this time, (less than 2 days latr), we were in the ER with a high fever and 2 absesses. Even the ER doctor suggsted it was caused by diapers and asked if we had used this brand. She had seen several cases like my daughters in recent months, all had been using Huggies of some sort. There is no history of her having staph, anyone in my family having it, or even of her having diaper rashes. She has had maybe 2 rashes that were light in the past with other diaper brands.

The product, in the report: Huggies Diapers Snug and Dry size 5
I wanted to start off by saying that I have used Huggies diapers for my 2 year old son for over 1.5 years and have been pleased with the quality of the diapers up until last night. It was very disturbing and saddening to find maggot-like bugs in the diapers. I have used up almost the entire box before my husband found these bugs. Some were still alive! And I have taken pictures of them as proof as well as bagged one of them up. After finding these bugs in the diapers, we went online to research. Apparently this has happened before to other families which is absolutely unacceptable! I am not sure what processes they have in place to ensure this wouldn’t happen, but it’s clearly not working. I purchased these boxes from either Target or Walmart. I do not believe that these stores are the issue. I believe the issue stems from the manufacturing plant as other people have had the same issues that lives across the world. What is more heartbreaking is that my son has complained of his private area hurting/itching for weeks and every time I checked, my thought was to look for a rash. Never in a million years did I think he had maggot-like bugs biting him! I need answers.

(I’ve worked at 2 daycare centers so I know what normal rashes are) this was horrible Her skin was blistered and red. It took me a while to realize it was the diapers. After switching diapers Ive had no problem. Until recently Im now trying to potty train I put her in huggies pull ups and the same rash came back. Its frustrating because Im potty training the longest she’s left in a diaper is when she’s sleeping otherwise Im constantly having Het sit on her potty and changing her

Hi, our son, [REDACTED], is 2.5y old. we just started using pull ups, but had to stop them almost immediately. He developed a severe rash (we have lots of pictures). first it started around the inner part of the upper legs, then it spread out down to his toes and some on his arms/hands. we went to doctors care the first night, they had no idea what to do with him. the following morning we went to his pediatrician, he was shocked with the severity of the rash. The doctor advised us to start soothing baths with and stop all other baby products. the soothing baths and soothing lotion/cream did help him with itch and the blisters started to dry out after the 4-th day. now, its been 2 weeks and all blisters are gone and his legs and arms are covered in spots of new skin. we wanted to try one more time with the pull ups, it took maybe 20 minutes and he developed redness and his skin around the inner part part the legs started to bump up and started to itch and cry. we immediately shower him and used the soothing lotion. this did help a bit, but it took very long time to calm him down. he did fall asleep after a good hour of crying and scratching his sides and he did hurt him self because of the severe rash/itch. we went back to using [REDACTED]. so far, we have no problem with using them.

Huggies Snug and Dry
We switched to them the other day and my boys butt went cherry red by the next diaper change. I thought it was a regular diaper rash but saw a post on facebook about it possibly being a chemical burn. I also googled it and saw a lot more parents are reporting the same thing. So I told the wife to give him a bath and switch to a different type of diaper. Within 2hrs my wife said his butt was already getting better by noon. By the time I got home from work, 4pm, the redness was all gone. I think if I kept on assuming it was a diaper rash I think it would have gotten ugly. People say it’s the chemical in the gel lining they use in that particular diaper. Might be something you want to look into. If you want samples I can send you what I have left of it.

Emergency room Made Nov 8, 2013, sent to the company Dec 2, 2013, published by CPSC Dec 16, 2013
The product, in the report: infant diaper, size 5
The responded is filing the report on behalf of the consumers.
A 21 month old infant, male wore the diaper for approximately 2 hours. The consumer changed the diaper, because the baby was crying. The father found that some of the stitching had torn away from the diaper and some of the gel had leaked from inside of the diaper onto his son’s leg. The father discovered that the infant had a reddish rash on the back of his leg. The father used a wet wipe on the affected areas and some of the skin came off of the baby. This happened at approximately 4:00pm.
The wife arrived home around 6:30pm and they took the baby to the Emergency Room, [REDACTED] Hospital, [REDACTED]. The baby was seen by a physician and it was determined that the baby sustained 2nd degree chemical burns to his leg. The baby was treated and released the same day. An ointment was applied to the wounds and “strep throat” was ruled out as a cause, while at the hospital.
(11/4/2013) The consumers took their baby to The Pro Health Pediatric and [REDACTED]., where he was seen by [REDACTED], Physician Assistant. The respondent is unsure of what treatment may have been provided by this doctor.
(11/7/2013) The consumers took the baby to a “burn specialist”, Dr. [REDACTED]. The respondent is unsure of what treatment may have been provided by this doctor.
(date unknown) The mother sent the manufacturer and email through their website and she received a call back on 11/4/2013.
(11/4/2013) [REDACTED], Mfr’s rep., Tel: [REDACTED], called the consumer and said that she would provide them with a postage paid overnight envelope and asked that the consumer send 1 of diapers from that package back to them. She also discussed possible payment for the consumer’s medical bills. The consumers “did not” send any of the diapers back to the mfr.
The consumer also placed information about her incident on the Internet and the respondent indicated that it went viral.
It is unknown how many diapers were in the package. It is unknown if this manufacturer’s brand of diapers is typically used by the consumers or if they have ever experienced any similar problems in the past.
The respondent saw some pictures of the babies burns and based on pictures, there were several burns (2 burns ¾” in dia and 2 were ¼” dia). There was also an approx. 4” dia. burn to the upper right leg and an approx. 6” L x 3” W burn to the lower right leg.

I changed my daughter yesterday and then changed her again about 2 hours later. During the first change there was no sign of irritation. When I went to change there the 2nd time I noticed an extremely bad rash that was starting to blister. I was extremely nervous so I rushed her up to urgent care. I was inrmed by the dr that she has a chemical burn. The diapers that we just started using were the Huggies Snug and Dry and have used only a few out of the pack. We have never used these in the past and she does not have previous diaper rash irritations. She also does not have sensitive skin. The dr prescribed us 2 oitments to place on the affected area and informed me to stop using these diapers immediately. My daughter is in horrible pain and you can not even change her without her screaming from using a wipe or warm wash cloth. We have gone out and purchased the [REDACTED] oatmeal bath and the dr said that should help as well. The dr informed us to leave her diaper off as much as possible to let it get some air. I am extremely mad that we are going through this due to these diapers.

I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and I had been loyal Huggies Snug and Dry uses since the day they were born until the new “surefit” came out. I bought the first box and was disappointed due to my kids peeving out of the diapers within a hr or so. Then I started to notice a rash starting to show up. I was blessed and my kids both only had very seldom diaper rashes and that was usually only when they had received some sort of antibiotic. The rash continuously got worse and worse through the continued use of the “surefit” brand. Between the two of my kids we probably visited the doctor 10 times or so for the rash/burn. We tried multiple medications. By mouth, and paste(prescription and non prescription.) nothing helped it or even slightly made the rash better. My kids would literally scream every Time they urinated. It got so bad with my 2 year old that we ended up in the er getting a urine sample because they swore that she had an urinating tract infection. never related it to the diapers until I decides to change brands because everything else I had done to help the rash didn’t work. After a week of wearing a different diapers they both were diaper rash free. I was still upset simply because I was an absolute huggies lover so I called huggies and told them what was going on. They told me they were aware that the new “surefit” leaves gel residue and yes they do state that on the box(which they made sure I knew) but no where does it say that the gel may cause some sort of reaction of rash. I basically begged them to go back to the old style and they made it perfectly clear to me that they had no intentions of going back to the old style and that the “surefit” was here to stay! I was also made out to look like a liar because they told me that they hadn’t had anyone else to complain about the new “surefit” what makes me even more furious is the fact that I was not the only one and more and more babies are being affected by these “surefit” diapers! If all of us have already complained then there is absolutely no explanation as to why Huggies doesn’t have an answer to Why these diapers are doing this!

My son broke out in a horrible rash after using one Huggies Little Snugglers diaper for less than an hour. Over the next few days his condition went from bad to worse. He went from having a very red diaper rash anywhere the diaper touched that to a rash with welts, open sores, and bleeding in the areas the diaper came in contact with his skin. I rushed him to an Urgent Care after his condition worsened where he was prescribed a medication, was instructed to use two OCT medications, and eventally after 10+ days his condition finally started to clear up and the sores began to heal. As a result of using this diaper he now has numerous scars and was in visible high amount of pain in a very sensitive area for days. I contacted Huggies to tell them what happened, but they have done little about it and do not seem to care of the damnage their product has caused.

The product, in the report: Huggies - Snug and Dry Economy Plus - Size 1
Hi, After a long deliberation we chose to use Huggies over [REDACTED] and though most of them met our expectations we were disappointed when we found few of them had adhesive in their interiors. How we found out? That was a very sad day for us and for our baby. She had been continously crying since morning and we had no clue what was going wrong. We called up doctor, monitored her temperature, but all in vain. And accidently my wife while changing her diaper found out that the diaper baby was wearing had stuck to her tummy area below the belly button and it was pulling her skin when ever she tried to move her legs. That was a very painful day for all our family members. We thought that as an aberration, but now have found the same problem in around twenty more diapers in the ‘Huggies Snug and Dry Diapers’ 258 count box. They have an adhesive that sticks to the baby’s skin. I have provided the samples to the company for analysis and hope the company takes measures to avoid such major quality issues esp in the products meant for babies. Initially I thought of avoiding taking the issue formally, but I found a similar report filed in the past without any conclusive outcome. The report# is 20121101-A2E84-2147462308

I use Huggies diaper for my baby. She is five months old. My baby had regular check up in oct 3, and she is a well baby. But 4 days after her check up, when I changed her diaper I found her skin where the diaper used has much little pimples and a piece of rash, I got a clean diaper for her, then I found inside the diaper there is a big piece of glue, and the surface of the diaper is very rough. I’m thinking diaper should be clean and soft for baby skin and that glue shouldn’t happen on it. I took her to see doctor the day after and till now I still have to use the doctor’s ointment on her skin every time when I change her diaper..

When I noticed it was full of urine, I removed it and found both butt cheeks very swollen and hot to the touch. I was confined to the area that was wet with urine and in contact with the diaper. Gave children [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] and over the next 2 hours allergic reaction subsided. We used a different brand for the rest of the night. She has no history of allergies, no new food was introduced, no new product was used during bath time, no product was used on buttocks after bath. Believe it to be a reaction to product in diaper. The next day she reacted on her legs only. her buttocks were fine as we had a different diaper on. Turns out we forgot to change the bed sheet and there must have been residue on the sheets. again we treated her. The next night with new bedsheets and diapers, no reactions occurred.

The product, in the report: size four diapers
The consumer noticed while removing the diapers out of their original packaging she saw a metal shard and continued on throughout the day. While applying one of the diapers the consumer noticed one metal shard on the back waist band of the diaper.
The size of the metal shard is less an inch in width and size, similar to the middle section of a staple. She noticed one other piece of metal within the other diapers.
She contacted the firm the week of 2/13/2012 and was advised that they would mail out a package for the diaper to be sent back and evaluated.
The consumer did not use the diaper that had the metal shard and there were no injuries reported.

I called Huggies the next morning and they confirmed that they had a problem with that Lot number.
