The product, in the report: top load washer
The submitter said the washer is shaking excessively and she believes her washer should be included in recall # 13-073. The submitter indicated that the excessive shaking caused the floor in her laundry room to crack. She also indicated that she gets the unbalanced code often when she is washing a load.
The submitter said that she contacted the firm to inform them of her concerns sometime in November 2016 but they never returned her call. The submitter said her washer completely stopped working and she contacted Sears to arrange for a technician to inspect the washer. The technician informed her that the bolt under the rudder became loose and the technician repaired the washer.
The submitter said the firm finally got back to her a month later about the issue and was unwilling to reimburse her for the expenses of the repair.

LG washing machine model WT5001cw, serial number 005kwgg04527. LG technician has serviced twice, over past two years under recall, including new motor, stator, control panel, rotor and software. It has continued to spin excessively with shaking and error codes (uE,UE,LE). Contacted LG again and a they will send another technician out tomorrow however the machine spun for many hours yesterday and lost all power. Now nothing works. I wish LG would just replace the machine or provide a credit for a new one.

The product, in the report: LG top loading washer Model Waveforce
On 7/6 my sons were running a load of wash in our LG top load washing machine, the load became unbalanced and then made a weird noise and they thought something snapped. The load of wash then drained and my sons waited until we came home to review washer. I reviewed known issues online and realized the washer was part of a recall which I had not seen before. I called LG and they are sending someone to look at unit but I am concerned as the online reports indicate they just adjust the speed so it doesnt spin as fast. This will not resolve my issue and we dont want anyone to get hurt with this product or damage to my home .

The product, in the report: White, LG front loaded washing machine. TROMM Steam washer 4.0 Ultra capacity Direct Drive System Quiet Operation
We have a LG washing machine at home on the second floor. A couple of days ago, our nanny was doing laundry as our 6 month old baby was taking a nap, and asked me to check the washing machine as she thought that it should have already stopped the cycle. The screen displayed an error (FE error) and it seemed as if the water was still running inside the machine. I called my husband immediately and he suggested that I closed the water valves that go to the machine. As I tried looking for them, the water started overflowing. It was so much pressure from the water that the machine door opened (it is a front loading machine) and water started coming out. It was very scary. Lots of water continued to flow on the floor of the laundry room and inside our bedroom, and then leaked into the dining room on the first floor. The second floor carpet and the first floor ceiling were soaked. Finally, our neighbor was able to shut down the water for our house from the basement and water finally stopped. We now have four industrial dehumidifiers at home working for five days trying to dry our carpet and ceiling.
Even though it seems that the machine could be fixed by replacing a small part, we have decided to replace it as it doesn’t give us confidence to continue using this particular one anymore.

The product, in the report: LG washing machine model WT5101HV serial number 112KWAT0K352
I own a washing machine made by LG model WT5101HV serial number 112KWATOK352. I had never received a recall from LG. The washing machine exploded causing the entire top portion to fly off the machine. It was in the spin cycle as evidenced by very little water in the drum. The drum was sitting on the bottom of the unit. The plastic pieces holding the support brackets were broken. The entire machine was warped out of shape. If anyone had been in that room near the machine they would have been seriously injured.

No one hurt Made Feb 26, 2017, sent to the company Apr 6, 2017, published by CPSC Apr 20, 2017
The product, in the report: LG top load washer WT5001CW
On Saturday 2/18 my LG washer model WT5001CW serial number 105KWMK6A731 blew up during operation. We stepped out for a short 30 minute errand and when we returned the laundry room was wrecked. The drum had broken loose and knocked the washer around so violently that it put three holes in the walls, dented the dryer to the point it is unsafe to use, and it was leaking water all over the laundry room and hall. Needless to say the washer is ruined. We were washing bedding including a blanket and mattress pad. Although out of warranty we called LG customer service to see if they would compensate us because this seems to be a very unsafe product and it just cost us a few thousand dollars. They said they would have to send someone to inspect it to see if it was a safety issue. A LG service person came out and photographed all the damage and made some phone calls but said he didn’t think the company would do anything because “the manual says you cannot wash mattress pads”. My manual says nothing of the kind, other than a general caution to avoid washing “waterproof clothing” which does not sound like a mattress pad (they tell you to use the “bedding” cycle for bedding that may be less water absorbent). So LG has not called back, and actually tried to charge me for the “service call” which I refused to pay after their product ruined the laundry room. Now I find out that it actually was recalled 3 years ago (recall 13-073) for this very issue. We were never notified of a recall, and I am pretty frustrated.

The product, in the report: Top Loading Washing Machine. Grey color.
Product was being used to wash a comforter. Without warning the washing machine made a loud noise and upon investigation we discovered that it had essentially broken into several pieces. the top of the machine was off. The whole machine had rotated 270 degrees. It was being tethered by the water lines and drainage tube. It had broken the adjacent utility sink and bent/broke one of its metal legs. On the other side of the washing machine, the companion dryer (not in use at the time) had become dented.
There was no warning that this was impending. There was no vibration that we heard before this occurred.

The product, in the report: Washing machine
This complaint is regarding a LG washing machine. Since purchased, the machine has shaken extremely. Several calls were made for customer support and the issue was never resolved. Two weeks ago while washing clothes, my feet were injured by the machine. The excessive shaking made the machine move, landing on my foot. In an attempt to stop the machine, I got my finger cut. Customer support was called again as well as safety recall, and nothing was done.

The consumer had contacted the firm about the incident and they referred her to a local repair center so they could examine the washer. The technician advised the consumer that the screw in the washer fell and the technician had to secure the screw with glue.

My lg washing machine that is on the recall list had the motor explode. The ceramic parts went flying out and around the machine. We are lucky it didn’t catch fire. Lg has a 10 year warranty on the motor ofor this machine. However they do not stand behind there warranty. I just found out the washer has been recalled for safety. Lg is extremely uncooperative and I will not be a consumer of theirs again.

He bought a washer from a local store. The brand is an LG. We reported an issue with mold to the company via 1-800 number. They told us its normal and to visit a website to problem solve. We have done everything to try to stop the growth of the mold but have been unsuccessful. They state because it has been more than one year (2 years) that there is nothing they can do about the problem. Mold is unsafe and my family is exposed everyday to it.

The product, in the report: LG front loading clothes washer model WM2010CW
LG front loading washer model WM2010CW does not stop spin cycle when there is excessive vibration from an unbalanced load, resulting in the machine (with a stack dryer on top) banging around the closet and “walking”. As a result of the drum jumping around, a drum support spring came loose and the drum dropped, damaging the gasket between the drum and door, while the machine continued to run. If we had not been home to turn off the washer, it probably would have damaged the walls, door, and contents of the laundry closet, possibly pulling off hoses, creating a flooding hazard, or additional damage to the washer and dryer. I called LG about this and they acknowledged a repair bulletin, but said they couldn’t do anything because the washer was out of warranty. This would seem to be a defect in either the sensor or the control board that should stop the washer and provide an error code, per the owner’s manual. I see there has been a recall on some LG top loader machines that had the same problem.

The product, in the report: LG WASHING MACHINE (WT1150CW) Product: WT1150CW.ABWEPUS / W/M Serial No: 609VWGT0N423
I purchased an LG Washing Machine from Home Depot on 11/7/2016. On 11/28/2006, I referred to the owner’s manual to conduct a Tub Clean cycle. On page 25 of the manual, it states to “Fill the bleach dispenser to the MAX line with liquid chlorine bleach.” I looked into the machine, saw the dispenser labeled “Liquid Bleach Only”, with a line labeled “MAX”. I proceeded to fill the dispenser with liquid chlorine bleach (Clorox), but the bleach did not reach the max line after I poured in 1/2 GALLON. I stopped since I felt it was excessive at that point. I called LG Customer Service to explain, and while I was on the phone, bleach started to run out from the bottom of the machine onto the floor. They scheduled an LG factory service technician to come out on 11/29/16. On 11/29/16, the LG technician arrived and was perplexed. He said it appeared that the factory did not install the bleach reservoir under the dispenser. He then called his technical adviser for consultation. After the call, he told me that this is a new model that LG just came out with, and this does not have the reservoir, but they did not update the labeling on the bleach dispenser or literature. Since there is no reservoir, attempting to pour bleach to the “MAX fill” line WILL ALWAYS overflow into the bottom of the machine where the wiring and motor is housed, and onto the floor. This is a MAJOR fire hazard and health hazard, and time is of the essence to have owners notified.
Here are the details of the LG Service Technician visit and washing machine: LG Service Date: 11/29/16, arrival 5:15pm, departure, 6:45pm. LG Technician Name: [REDACTED] LG 1-800-243-0000 Reference No: [REDACTED] Product: WT1150CW.ABWEPUS / W/M Serial No: 609VWGT0N423

I have an L G top loading washer that dances and goes crazy and seems like it is going to explode. I never bought the warranty so I never have had some one look at it. Both washer and dryer cost me around $1700.00 and I am still paying for them. I have been hit by the washers several all times on my feet. The washer scares me but I have to tolerate it because I have to finish paying it. This is so unfair to continue to pay for a washer when it does not work right and it may explode and hurt me. Is there a recall on my washer. L G washer WT487OCW. 303PNPD32296.

The product, in the report: Front loading washer
The washer has developed mold around the rubber seal and it causes the rear of her home to emit a mold odor. The consumer said that she has experienced the problem from the time that the washer was purchased. The consumer has never had the washer serviced for this issue.
The consumer searched the Internet and saw a video, where others had experienced this same issue. It also referred people to the CPSC to file a complaint about this issue.
The consumer’s husband has developed sinus problems that he has not had in the past and it may be attributed to the mold in the washer. The consumer’s husband has been to the doctor and are attempting to see what symptoms may be causing the coughing that he has experienced, but have not been able to identify the cause so far.
The consumer still uses the washer.
The washer does not appear to be included in any CPSC recalls.

The product, in the report: Top Loading Washing machine, Model #WT5001CW, Serial #006KWRE03782
LG Washer, Model #WT5001CW was not in use on 7/13/2016 (load had finished 2-3 hrs before). Lid would not open for removal of small load, & electronic panel began making loud popping sounds when I attempted to open it, & almost immediately began burning & emitting thick black smoke. We unplugged the machine, & removed the electronic panel covering once the fire was out. The entire electronic section was burned, melted, & ruined. I called LG to report the problem, so as to alert the company to this problem, and prevent possible house fires. I was informed that even though my washer was almost 6 yrs old, there was a recall & software update on this model, and that an appointment would be made with a repair service. After several lengthy calls with LG customer service reps, & with the local repair company, I was eventually informed that LG would not cover the damages after all, as the machine was out of warranty. I feel that this problem could definitely result in possible fires that would damage others’ property, & possibly lead to loss of life.

My washing machine has been smelly and spoiled my clothes if I leave them in there more than 30 minutes. My daughter had started getting rashes with no explanation. The dr said it was an allergy but couldn’t figure out to what. This has been happening for quite a while, until I discovered the nasty slimy black mold with hair and who knows what else under the rubber rim. I had to work very hard to get all of it out since the one rim against the machine itself doesn’t open very much at all. I clean it atleast once a week which is a pain but I’d rather do that than have slimy nasty growing in my machine. This is not an isolated incident, it has been going on for about a year after we bought the machine.

The product, in the report: Product: 4.1 cu. ft. Top Load Washer Model: LG WT1101CW Color: White
I have a LG Clothes Washing Machine, model WT1101CW. The unit had completed washing a small load of bedding at around 2 PM US CST. The lid was left down after the load completed.
I went into the laundry room around 8 PM US CST, and the washing machine was fine.
The door to the laundry room where the washing machine was closed shut when I left at 8 PM US CST. When I woke up at 6 AM US CST, I went to the laundry room, and found the glass top of the washing machine to have shattered; there were spider web like cracks covering the entire glass area. I put my hand on the glass, palm facing down, to see if the glass was some kind of laminated glass, a little piece of glass pierced my skin. It was a minor cut. When I opened the top, and then shut the top, the glass fell out from the middle of the glass area. While the glass is safety glass, it is not like an automobile front windshield, and it does not have any laminate, tape, or adhesive to hold it together if it breaks.

Lg washing machine model W15101HV, had a recall for unbalanced load can cause washing machine to shake excessively and drum come loose during use.
On 03/27/2016 this happened to my unit and it actually knocked the whole top off and turned the unit around and broke apart.
We had received recall notice from LG and my wife had called when we received it and they told us it does not affect our model. But now on it shows that our model was affected.
When calling Lg they do not want to do anything. We already bought a new machine and old one was taken away before I found this out, but have pictures and 5 employees of Lg authorized sales location saw unit and what happened as well.
Also had issues with unit rusting and when called Lg I was told to just spray vinegar on it, then called back to be told to use baking soda paste. This did not resolve this issue.

The product, in the report: Top loading washing machine
I was washing two blankets and the drum of the washer started banging loudly and dinged with a ‘ue’ on the front of the washer code. I opened the lid and it had not drained fully from the drum. I readjusted the blankets and ran the rinse and spin cycle. It would not complete. The blankets were soaked. It ran ‘ue’ again. I hand wringing the blankets. Since this, my washer squeaks, grinds with the bottom spinning goes off balance and won’t drain completely

The product, in the report: LG Washing machine WT 5001C serial number 011 KWRE03798 white top loader with see through lid.
This washing machine was being used in my house for personal laundry care. The spin cycle stopped working properly and I found out the machine had been recalled several years earlier. It is an LG washer # 011KWRE03798 that was purchased from Best Buy on 5-22-11 and the machine started “walking” and messing up and finally stopped working safely on 11-28-15. The recall # 13-073. I was never sent any information regarding a recall, but luckily a friend told me about it. The recall states “An unbalanced load can cause the washing machine to shake excessively and the drum to come loose during use, posing a risk of injury to consumers and property damage to the surrounding area”. I originally called LG on the 7th of Dec 2015 (after finding out about recall) and I have yet to get any resolution from them. I just got off the phone with LG in Huntsville, AL talking to [REDACTED] (who prides herself on being a company executive) and she has told me that since I don’t have my original receipt (which was printed on thermal paper over 4 years ago and has faded to nothing) that they will not do anything for me. So I have a broken product they sold to the public that they recalled and cant seem to fix and they want a receipt, that retailers have designed to fade with in a year, or the wont do anything!
Oh and she refused out right to give me her boss’s first name! Said she would not do it!

LG Front loading washing machine is the worst washer I have ever owned!!! I have the same mold problem that everyone else has. I have maintained the cleaning schedule that is recommended by the manufacturer but it has not help at all. My clothes come out smell like mold and get mold streaked water on them. No matter what I do I can not stop this problem. I never ever ever ever close the door when it is not in use and no matter what I do I continue to get moldy dirty clothes when I use this LG TROMM washing machine. It really is an awful machine!!!!

The product, in the report: LG WM2050CW Washing Machine
LG WM2050CW front loader washing machine seems defective. Mold accumulation inside the washer has been ongoing for years. I just read that some class action lawsuits were ongoing, so I figured why not enter my personal experience with this machine.
Mold growth has been brutal. Clothes smell and parts to replace moldy equipment are extremely costly. I even looked into possibly cutting a hole in the back of the machine in order to install a fan in the unit (although I did not). The door of the washing machine is constantly left open when not in use... When the door is not left open, mold accumulation gets worse. This is an obvious defect.

The product, in the report: LG Front Loading Wash Machine. White color. Model Number WM2240CW Serial Number 012KWNM01111
The glass door on my four year old LG front loading washing machine shattered. The Model number is WM2240CW. The wash machine was not in use at the time and had been turned off for several hours prior to shattering. There were no visible signs of damage to the glass before the incident. After hearing a crashing sound I found shards of glass all over the floor near the wash machine. I contacted LG to report the incident and to find out if there was a recall, but they were less than helpful and only interested in telling me that the warranty had expired. If someone was near the wash machine when this happened they could have been seriously injured by the broken glass.

The product, in the report: LG Washing Machine
We purchased an LG Washing Machine from SEARS in North Dartmouth Ma on 5/27/12. Within one month, I found that towels and some cotton clothes smelled moldy. I called SEARS and was told to use the Tide Washing Machine Cleaner and to keep the door of the machine open, which I did. I continued to find the musty smell in my clothes and machine. I called again in September 2012 to ask for a service call since I continued to have the same problem. I had purchased the extended warranty I was told by SEARS that it was beyond the 60 days of the machine warranty and the extended warranty didn’t cover this problem.
I continue to have this problem to this day. You can’t walk by the washing machine without it smelling musty. The door gasket continues to hold water and mold. There is no way to get it to dry. Clothes and towels continue to smell musty and there is no way to rid them of the smell. I was told to rinse them in bleach. Aside from changing the color of the towels and garments, yo certainly can’t do this in a front-loading machine.

LG WmM2016 front load washer glass door explodes. During the spin cycle the glass explodes. I heard a lot of load noise and a heat smell coming from washer. I immediately turned off the power button and locked laundry room so my kids don’t enter. After about 30 minutes I emptied some of the clothes and cleared some of the glass. There is still a lot of glass inside the machine and on the door remaining. I called LG Electronics the Manufacture and they said based on our S/N 905KWYP00394 was manufactured in May 2009. They said I can hire someone and pay them to figure out. LG wasn’t interested or cared that the product is safety hazard or cared about anything. I have 6 young kids as young as 1 years old and my other 3 are under 5 and only 2 over the age of 5 years old. There could;ve been serious injury if they had walked in during spin cycle. There is still glass inside he washer not even sure if it is repairable. I have hired someone that can come and give me an estimate on expenses. I don’t even want to imagine the if my children had walked in the laundry room during this incident what might’ve happened. I was very upset that LG the Manufacture doesn’t care what happened.

The product, in the report: Top loading washer
LG Toploading washer model# WT5001CW with serial# beginning with 112KW is not a part of release# 13-073 because the serial numbers of those recalled go only as high as 111KW, however this consumer has asked that her unit be added to the recalled units.
She purchased her washer February 24th, 2012 and had no problems with it until December 17th, 2014 when it exploded.
This caller was in another room waiting for her second load of laundry to complete when she and her husband heard a very loud noise similar to a type of noise a drill would make but much more aggressive and louder.
She and her husband began making their way to the laundry room.
When they opened the door to the laundry room they saw that the washer was pulled completely out from the wall, was in the middle of the room, the top of the washer was completely off, pieces of the washer were lying everywhere.
She is reporting this incident due to the potential for injury to a user of the unit and to anyone other than the user that could be in the room such as a small child.
She is asking that her unit be added to the recalled units immediately and that her washer be replaced at manufacturer expense.
There are no injuries to be reported
The caller contacted the manufacturer December 17th, 2014 after the incident, she spoke with a female representative who never asked how she was or if she was injured.
The rep stated that all sounded alright, seemed unconcerned and only concerned with damage in the house and not to the consumer. ( there is no damage or injury to consumer)
Asking that the unit be added to the recalled units immediately and that she be compensated for replacement of a washer and damage to laundry room.
Note: Wanted to elaborate on the phone calls that were placed to the manufacture, The first phone call to the manufacture on 12/17/14 immediately following the incident, the caller was told that someone would contact her in 3-5 business days. Placed a second call to the manufacture on 12/18/14, (felt this shouldn’t wait 3-5 days. ) the male operator ([REDACTED]) said that he did see where there had been a report filed and turned over to another department, but said that the caller needed to contact her warranty company and have them send a tech out to take a report on the washer, that they (LG) just couldn’t take my word for it and that this needed to be determined if this was human error or manufacture defect. The caller asked why was she was not told that information on the first phone call, he apologized and said the caller wasn’t given all the information she should have been given. [REDACTED]

LG Diamond glass lid on the washer just shattered! Nothing was turned on and no one was around. We heard a loud pop and then we could just hear crackling for the next 6 hours until it was done. Been having to use with out the glass in the lid because LG will not fix. I was just a few days over the year warranty. As you can see below this is an on-going problem with this product.
I have been trying to get this fixed for a couple of years now and have been getting the run around. I should not have to pay for the glass or for the service call to install the new glass or even better an all metal lid!
RECALL: all of LG glass lids need to be recalled because of Shattering Glass. For safety reasons this glass is dangerous and running the machine with no glass in the lid can cause serious problems and even death if a kid fall into the machine.
Do a [REDACTED] search ( LG washer cracked glass lid ) you will find hundreds of complaints.
This will be copied to [REDACTED] Consumer Product Safety Commission, and everywhere else WE the consumer can find

The product, in the report: LG WT5001CW washing machine
LG WT5001CW clothes washer broken/changed significantly by firmware replacement being done by LG per U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Had the same good professional LG service tech come out twice, once to do the recall firmware upgrade, once to follow up on the complaint and repair agitator plate damage that tech said “I have never seen anything like this”. PROBLEM IS, washer immediately started using much less warm water (even at hottest settings), leaves far more moisture in clothes when “done”, and run times are now 50% longer. The washer went from being excellent to mediocre or poor at best and was essentially broken/changed to the point of being unsatisfactory by the firmware change.
Unit has FAR more balancing issues after the”fix” by the manufacturer. This is unacceptable. My excellently cared for machine in perfect condition is now junk at the hands of the manufacturer.
Acceptable remedies: - Reload the original “problematic” firmware. - Correct the “recall” firmware - Replace the digital electronics board in the washer with one that causes the washer to behave as original - Replace the washer
Will pursue this with LG, as the LG tech says there’s nothing more he can do. Incident Date 11/12/2014 Incident Location Home/Apartment/Condominium

For the past 6 months, while washing clothes, the washing machine will become unbalanced and begin beating into the wall and shaking itself out of place. No injuries have occurred yet mainly because I am usually close by while it is operating however, I worry that the machine will damage surrounding structures and electrical outlets. I am able to stop the machine by powering off but the past week it has been late to respond. The machine is used for a family of 3 for 3 or 4 loads a week. I am careful to keep loads minimal in an attempt to reduce damage. The past 6 months the machine has become unbalanced with almost every load and recently requires the unit to be turned off more than once during a single load. heard huge noise like a bomb went off-washer had self destructed burst the entire top off and it was dangling along it’s side by the water hoses and electrical cord. The washer had turned around 120 degrees destroying the laundry tub and denting the dryer cabinet making it unusable. The washer was still running when we entered the room, there were no indicators prior to this happening that there were any issues with the appliance. The washer was 3.5 yrs old. Having issues with LG customer service taking responsibility for their product. We are thankful no one was in the room as this could’ve killed someone.

The product, in the report: LG WT4801CW top load clothes washer
LG WT4801CW washing machine top glass door shattered.
I was doing laundry and a load of clothes in the washing machine had just finished. I was taking clothes out of the dryer when I heard a loud pop. When I looked at the washing machine the glass was shattering and kept shattering. Nothing hit the glass it just shattered. My wife called LG support and they would not do anything except send a technician that we have to pay for the repairs. I checked on the internet and numerous people have had the same problem and LG will not admit it is an issue. This needs to be recalled before someone is injured.

Top Loading washer purchased washer from Home Depot around September 2009.
She has been noticing an odor similar to mildew for possibly four years but on October 9th or10th, 2014 when she was cleaning out the rubber piece inside the door when she saw quite a bit of mold inside the rubber and so closed the door.
She contacted LG but does not have the name of the person she spoke with, however she did inform them that she is not using the washer until they can offer a logical resolution.
She is asking for this washer to be replaced, she leaves the door open so that the air does not present a safety issue with the mold and mildew odor.
She scrubs around the rubber that goes around the door also
There have been no injuries in this instance.
The caller has contacted the manufacturer and is waiting for their response

The product, in the report: LG Top loading HE laundry machine. Model # WT4801CW White color
LG Brand Top Loading Laundry Machine WT4801CW with diamond glass top. I approached the machine to start a load of wash (I always keep the cover/lid in the down position) and noticed that the glass lid was shattered completely. I looked around to see if anything had fallen on it but found nothing around even though I do not keep any items stored above. When I contacted LG’s customer service dept., they told me that they never heard of this happening before and I need to contact a local LG authorized service center to access the situation and see if it was due to negligence on my part or if indeed it is a defect in the glass as there is only a 1 year warranty and my machine is 2 years old. I contacted the one and only authorized service appliance repairman and they advised that it would cost me $85. 00 plus tax just to come out and look at the machine and the earliest available day would be in 5 days. This is the only authorized LG repair shop in my entire state ! He came out and all he would say is that to replace the glass top would be $277.90 plus tax ! He said I would have to call LG to see if they would cover the cost of replacing the lid since it’s outside of the 1 yr. warranty. I filed a report with LG and when I followed up with them on 10/2/14 I spoke with a customer service manager and he said they cannot cover the cost of the lid since it’s no longer under warranty or has not been recalled. He also stated that they are not familiar with this happening to anyone else. (So why did they tell me that I had to call their authorized service repairman to look at it ? At $85.00 for a service call !) Well I googled this incident and came across at least one dozen complaints from consumers on various sites regarding this make and model. What does it take to have a company recall a product due to flawed material, shattered glass is dangerous. I ended up paying this repairman $85.00 for a quote on a new lid and he would not even contact LG with his findings. He also advised me that LG’s customer service is very difficult to deal with and they are looking into not being their service contractor any longer. The glass is flawed for it to shatter for no reason at all, what is my recourse ??? I am out $85.00 and it’s not even fixed. This is wrong !

The product, in the report: LG Top Load Washer
I started experiencing issues with my LG top load washer. It was shaking violently and makng a lot of noise. After researchig the issue online I discovered that there was a recall on the model # WT5001CW. I initially reported the problem to LG on 7/22/2014 and they scheduled a local repair person to come out and fix the problem...They have been to my home at least 6 times now and we have yet to resolve the problem. I have also had issues with LG covering the repair, but after complaining to a supervisor, I was able to get the “problems not covered by the recall” covered. They stated that it’s only a software update that will fix the problem, but I’m sure if your washer is violently shaking that more than just the software will need to be repaiered. It’s been a nightmare...I have a repair person scheduled to come out Sept 12/2014 and I’m sure parts will have to be ordered, so that would mean another 2 to 3 weeks before it’s repaired...at least I’m hoping this will be the last service call.

The product, in the report: LG Top Load Washer WT5101HW, purchased December 12, 2010 at Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha, NE.
I washed my bedding on Saturday, July 12, 2014. I put the items in between 7-8am. I set the setting to “Bulky Bedding” on my washer and went about my day as usual. I was the only one home at the time and was in the process of blow drying my hair when I heard a very loud boom and my house shook. I turned the dryer off and looked outside and it was cloudy so I assumed that it may be thunder or I contributed it to large trucks going by my home since they are building many homes in my area. I went back to getting ready for an appointment that I had. Around 8:15 I went downstairs in my home and walked into my garage. When I reached my car I heard the boom once again and sounded like a bomb. I ran into my house and water was gushing on my floor from the washer and water spraying my whole laundry room. The machine was spitting out all of its parts all over my floor and the top of the washer was blown off and hanging on sideways. The machine was still running in full force banging into my walls and the dryer that it sat next too. Danger was apparent at this point to I immediately contacted my husband on the phone as I was in severe panic mode since I could not reach the electrical outlet plug and the machine was out of control. My husband contacted his father who lives 1 mile from me and he rushed over. While I waited for his father I quickly thought that the power button was still lit up while the machine was ripping to shreds so I ran in the room and pushed it and it turned off. My next concern was a fire since there was water everywhere and cords on the floor and the outlet completely wet. I put on some gloves and climbed on top of the dryer to reach behind the washer and unplug the machine so that nothing more could come from this mess. My father-in-law came over and helped me pull all the pieces out of my laundry room and into our garage where the unit currently sits. It was a sight we had never seen before and we were glad my kids were not in the room at the time. Literally the screws, washers, metal rods, everything were thrown all over my floor. Holes are in my walls, one hole in my floor, water leaked down to my basement. I started researching on the internet and found this recall that I was never made aware of so I contacted the number you provided and a man is coming today to look at the damage. I am grateful no one was hurt, but at the same time am FURIOUS that I was never contacted or informed about the recall. They had all my information when I gave them my model number and serial number so why wasn’t I ever contacted? LG means Life’s Good, well not in my home anymore....I am paranoid to have anything running if I have to leave the house now. I am hoping this anxiety goes away.

LG Washer, top load, caught on fire. Appears the fire started in the electronic controls area. The smoke smelled of an electical fire. We turned off the breaker, unplugged the machine and the fire seemed to go out. I removed all of the back panels to make sure the fire was out. The burned area source of the fire was on the upper part of the machine in the electronic control area. There is heavy smoke damage in the washer controls area and it still smells strongly of electrical fire. Did not call fire department as we felt we stopped the fire by turning off the electricity. However, watching it closely now to make sure it is out and touching areas in the control section to make sure it has cooled down.

The product, in the report: LG High efficiency top loading washing machine, Energy Star product
LG top load high efficiency washer (model WT4801CW) in residential service for 2.5 years overflowed during the flooding the utility room. According to service technician the unit overflowed creating an electrical hazard because the “pressure switch line as off of the tub due to loose tub and stretched suspension”. The tapered nipple on the tub to connect the hose of the pressure (water level) switch does not have any type of hose barb to prevent the tubing from slipping off. The excessive vibration from the imbalance causes the tubing to slide free and inactivate the level sensor. This is major design flaw and will eventually fail in all machines resulting in risk of injury to any consumer. The incident was reported to LG customer service to which there response was it was beyond the 1 year warranty period. Further research indicates this is not an uncommon failure for this and other LG high efficiency machines.

The product, in the report: LG front loading, fully automatic washing machine, white
LG Model 209PNVZ5D151, front loading washing machine, purchased in 2011.
When the door is open and the machine is Off, when you spin the drum with any force, the machine will turn on as if you touched the Start button.
The manufacturer recommends the door be left open when not in use to avoid mold and odors. The washing drum is only a few inches from the floor without an optional and expensive pedestal to raise it and is easily reached by a child.
I have found when unloading the washer and looking for clothes stuck to the side of the drum, that if turned with a relatively small amount of force the machine will turn on and only the Start button needs to be pushed after the door is closed.
My concern is a child spinning the drum with enough force to start the machine and then putting something or some other child in the drum, closing the door and pushing the Start button.
I don’t think it is safe for a machine to be electronically on where moving a key part turns it fully on and engages all the electronics. This is similar to old propeller bi-planes that had to be hand cranked to start by someone in front of the engine. We all know losing an arm in the process in that instance was not unheard of.

The product, in the report: My repair/case# is [REDACTED]. Model# WT5070CW.ABWEEUS. Serial# 307KWVQ2M935. This washer is a LEMON !! I purchased it new 1 month ago on 2/9/14. It was delivered on 2/17/14 and I did not move into the residence until 2/21/14 and did not use the lemon washer until 2/28/14. The lemon washer always seemed loud to me, although I was puzzled by reviews saying that the washer was very quiet. On the THIRD use of this lemon washer, it bounced, banged and jumped around, with only 2 sheets as the load. There was a UE code. Next I removed all items from the lemon washer and the banging and jumping still occurred and the UE code remained. An LG technician came out on 3/4/14 and replaced the motor. The lemon washer still did not work. The same technician on the same day ordered a ‘clutch’ and said it would be delivered to my home the next day on 3/5/14. The technician again came out on 3/5/14 and the package had not arrived, at which point he told me the part was on back order. (To me a back ordered part is a very popular/high demand item which provides insight into the lemon washer’s issues.) It is now a week later and I have another appointment for 3/13/14 to have someone install this ‘clutch’ part. I am told after the third major repair, the company will declare this lemon washer to be a ‘defective return’ item. The issue is that everytime I talk to someone at the company, they do not have notes about the ‘first’ repair of the motor that took place on 3/4/14. So to LG my ‘first repair’ will be the replacement of this clutch item on 3/13/14. This is a shady company with shady business practices selling lemon washers. I do not deserve to have paid this much money for a washer less than ONE MONTH AGO to take several days off from work to have this lemon repaired and still be without a method to wash clothes. I am demanding a new replacement washer ASAP. I will be filing a small claims court action in Prince George’s County, MD to have my grievances heard.

LG did this recall in September 2013, this was a reprogramming of the computer software in this top load washer. Right away the machine shut off in every single load of laundry no matter how big or small of a load---with the error code of UE--- LG sent a few service men who did nothing to repair the washer and with time the machine and its error codes would change to OE and not empty the water contents at one point it even flashed “dr” This machine worked perfectly for two years until LG performed this reprogram. Recently on 2/18/14 LG replaced a motor, now the machine filled with water and will not drain. LG then transferred me to my extended warranty company. I am more then disappointed with LG as a company and what they have done to my washer- which was ruin a perfectly capable appliance.

LG Top Loading Washing Machine Model WT5001CW Serial Number 111KWXD16402 Purchased 11/25/2013 at Home Depot in Corpus Christi, TX
On 18 December 2013 I heard a loud crash sound in the laundry room. When I opened the door I found that the washing machine had rotated itself 90 degrees; the top was completely torn off and detached except for hanging by the electric wires; all four plastic corner tub supports were broken and torn away from the tub; the tub, basket, motor and other mechanical assemblies were sitting in the bottom of the cabinet; the cabinet was no longer square having been beaten out of shape by the tub & drum assembly.
There was some damage to the adjacent laundry room wall. There were no injuries to persons as the room was unoccupied at the time of the failure.

The product, in the report: Front load steam washing machine
I purchased a LG Front Load Steam washing machine from Home Depot in December 2009. Over the last year, my families clothing has had a horrible mildew/mold smell. Recently, I started doing searches online and found that there is a design flaw in front load machines. I contacted LG and they finally approved me for a one month extended warranty. After calling several service companies from their list, I finally had a service tech come to my house last week. He didn’t even look at the machine or open it up. He told me that I am using too much detergent, even though I am using the amount that the machine says to use. I do all the monthly maintenance required by LG. The smell in our clothing is embarrassing. I can’t afford to junk the machine and buy a new machine. I don’t know where else to turn for help with this problem. My son is allergic to mold and now I know why he is sick all the time since his clothes smell like mold/mildew.
Can you help me in anyway?

The product, in the report: LG Washer
I purchased one of these washers about two years ago. I received a recall notice and the LG technician came out to perform the fix for the recall. At that time, my machine was making a grinding noise that the technician said was related to the recall. The fix he applied corrected the grinding noise, just as he said. The machine has been working fine until recently when the grinding noise started again. I called LG, who said the machine was out of warranty and I needed to submit my receipt for a one time extended warranty before they could send someone out. I told them it was the recall problem again and that they needed to get someone out here. They said that the recall had been fixed, and the problem was not likely to be related. I was told that it would be at least a week before they would call me back to schedule a repair. I was not told to discontinue use of the washer. Today my washer exploded. Pieces of the spinner inside broke apart and badly damaged the drum. Metal was flying around inside. I managed to turn it off before it broke the glass in the lid, but the washer is probably now a total loss. I will call LG, but they seem to be less than helpful about this.

The product, in the report: top loading washing machine
The consumer stated that she has been having problems with her top loading machine which was a part of recall 13-073. The consumer stated that she contacted the recall hotline and on July 10th 2013 a technician as sent to her home and they updated that software on her washer. The consumer stated that after the update she continued to experience problems with the washer. She stated that the machine constantly went off balance, constantly drained, spin, and refill to try to balance itself which would make the cycles as long as 2 hours.
She stated that on Aug 28, 2013 she spoke [REDACTED] a manager from the firm and he requested for her to send him the invoice for proof of purchase. Also he scheduled a service appoint with Quality Appliance on Oct. 10, 2013 for them to service the washer. The technician informed her that the first service technician did not properly service the washer. She stated that they informed her that they did not do a software update as they stated and that they needed to order the “User interface panel.”
The consumer stated that the technician installed the part on Oct 30, 2013 and on Nov 1, 2013 she had to contact the company Quality Appliance back because she was still experiencing the same problems. She spoke to a representative that informed her that they needed to order a second part “second recalled.” The consumer decided to contact the firm back and she spoke with [REDACTED] and she informed her that there was no such thing as a “second recalled,” but there was a third step to follow to correct the problem.
The consumer stated that once the third repair was completed if she continued to experience the problem they would try to provide another resolution.
The consumer stated that she hasn’t been contacted for the third repair and today Nov. 14, 2013 she spoke with [REDACTED] and he informed her that he contacted Quality Appliance and they received the part which should solve all her problems once it was installed.
PLEASE NOTE! LG removed the washer and replaced it with a new washer; model WT5070CW on 12-6-13. 3rd repair never occured. In the consumer’s opinion, only after she took action contacting CPSC and relaying that info to LG did LG do what they should be doing for all owners of model WT5001CW washers: voluntarily removing them and replacing them. Model WT5001CW is a dangerous piece of equipment. The consumer waited weeks for the third repair and was sitting by the washer each washload to prevent constant “self correction” by the machine which involved draining and refilling over and over again if the load was off balance or the maching wouldn’t go off balance when it should have and it would shake something awful while it spinned incredibly fast. When the cycle would end, at times the machine would start to spin again. It would jump time. It would suddenly drain. How long was the consumer to wait for a third repair? The consumer had had enough and relayed that frustration to LG along with telling them she contacted CPSC abd would pursue reports with BBB and Dept. of Consumer Affairs in N.Y. The consumer repeats: This washer is dangerous.

The product, in the report: Top-Load washing machine
The consumer received a recall notice (CAP# 13-073) on 8/24/2013 and it was dated 12/18/2012. The firm covered the service cost for the first repair, but she paid the service charge for the last 3 repairs. The consumer has a home warranty and she paid her deductible on it. The consumer stated that the retailer’s warranty (Best Buy, in Sherman TX) was in effect for 30 days and the washer broke down after 33 days of owning it. On 2 occasions, the washer would not lock in place. Therefore, it would not operate. On 2 other occasions, the washer had to be serviced for excessive vibration. The consumer stated that she has only washed clothing in the machine and has “not” washed any bed clothes or heavy items in the machine. Early 2013, a technician came out to service the machine for the excessive vibration. The consumer was not aware of the recall CAP# 13-073 at that time. The technician could not fix the issue, so a different technician came out on a different day to work on the machine. That technician ordered some type of gear for the machine and he came back out on a different day to install the part. A date on one of the parts was: 4/10/2011, but the consumer is not sure which of the 4 service calls involved changing this gear. (8/27/2013) The spinner stopped working on the washing machine this morning and it is currently not operational. Same day, the consumer called the mfr. at the firm’s recall number: 855-400-4639. It was confirmed that the consumer’s washer was under recall. That initial rep. (name unknown) transferred the consumer over to a different rep. (name unknown) in the company. The technician told the consumer that there would still be a service charge on the machine. The consumer handed the phone to her husband. The husband read the recall noticed to the mfr’s tech., but the tech. reiterated that there would still be a service charge for the repair. The consumer noted that this is the 5th time that they have experienced problems with this machine. Grayson County Appliance Service Center, Van Alystine, TX, has been servicing the washing machine for these various issues, but they are also the approved service company for this mfr’s appliances. There has not been any property damage, because as soon as problems began, the consumer turned the washer off and contacted the local service company

The product, in the report: LG High Efficiency Front Load Washer, Red, model WM2301HR, S/N 904KWXD03738
My LG Front Load Washing Machine is continuously developing mold on the inside and frequent cleaning with either available washing machine cleaner (ie. [REDACTED] Front Load Cleaner) or Chlorine Bleach is not effective in removing the horrible smell for more than a day or two. This is extremely concerning as I am allergic to mold and have seen large amounts of mold (blue and grey in color) forming inside of the detergent dispensing drawer. The clothing coming out of the machine after washing also smells of the mold or mildew, a very strong musty odor that is only removed with either repeated washing on higher temperatures or drying with scented dryer sheets. I have experiences hives and other adverse reactions on my chest and legs that my allergist believes may be caused by the mold, as well as chronic sinus and nasal congestion. We also have a small dog who seems to be having reactions to the blankets/towels she sleeps on after they come out of the wash. We have eliminated using dryer sheets from her bedding with the thought that it could have been a reaction to them, but it has not stopped the breakouts.

Responding for requests for further complaints of LG washer subject to the current recall. My model number is WT5001CW with a serial number 110KW****. I have experienced the same unbalanced loads with drum vibration. My problems were NOT with water-proof or water-resistant materials however but with any small load of items. At times the machine read “UE” even while still running, most often it would ring the unbalanced alarm and would stop, requiring a rebalance of the small load of items. I bought this item approximately in November of 2011 and have had problems since the beginning. I have the recall notice and am planning on contacting LG. Thank you.
