The product, in the report: LG WM3700HWA/02 (Front loading steam washer)

LG Model: WM3700HWA Version /02. Purchase year 2020. Front-loading washer with steam. Incident date October 9, 2026. Most of the door glass fell out in large pieces. On October 9, 2026, I experienced a serious safety incident involving my LG front-loading washing machine, model WM3700HWA/02, purchased in 2020.

I had opened the washer door and was unloading laundry when the glass suddenly fractured and fell out of the door. Most of the glass fell to the floor in large pieces, leaving broken fragments around approximately three-quarters of the door perimeter. The washing machine was not operating, and the glass was not subjected to any known impact or unusual force. The incident was sudden and frightening and created an immediate risk of serious injury.

The product, in the report: LG Washer Model #: WT7150CW. Serial #: 303TWZH4X501. I do not know what date the machine was mfr.

Our LG Washer exploded while washing clothes in our laundry room. I see that there have been other complaints about this occurring with LG washers. The lid blew off its locked hinges. The sheet that was inside was shredded. The washer moved approximately 2’ from the fall where it sits and the front of the washer buckled and there was plastic fittings inside the washer tub. It was an extremely loud bang. The washer was not unbalanced as both my wife and I were in an adjacent room and the washer was tended to when this occurred. Water was everywhere and we had to use a [REDACTED] to clean up both water and debris that shot out or leaked from the machine.

  3. Seen by a doctor or nurse

Made Sep 30, 2026, sent to the company Oct 7, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 22, 2026

The product, in the report: LG Electronics WT7150CW Top Load Washing Machine, 5.0 cu. ft. Mega Capacity Washer with TurboDrum Technology. Serial Number: 201TNVS1E799. Purchased April 22, 2022.

I purchased an LG WT7150CW top-load washing machine on April 22, 2022. Shortly after installation, I began noticing a recurring chemical odor coming from the washer. The odor would intermittently spread throughout my basement. I also experienced ongoing problems with the machine not properly cleaning clothing and leaving detergent residue on fabrics. I reported these problems to LG multiple times beginning in 2022, but I was repeatedly advised to perform tub-clean cycles and was told the machine was operating normally. LG technicians did not identify any defects. In January 2023, I developed a painful skin condition affecting my arms and legs. Prior to this, I had no history of eczema or dermatitis. Dermatology records document a rash and biopsy findings consistent with allergic contact dermatitis. The condition continued through 2023 and 2024 despite treatment. On May 10, 2024, I hired an independent appliance repair company to inspect the washer. The technician found a defective water inlet valve assembly, worn splines, and contamination inside the machine. The technician advised that the washer should no longer be used and indicated that these defects were responsible for the chemical odor and detergent residue remaining on clothing. The washing machine was replaced on May 14, 2024. After the LG washer was removed from service, my skin condition slowly began to improve. However, the injury resulted in permanent scarring and discoloration. I am submitting this report because I believe the defective washer exposed me to contaminants, detergent residue, or chemical residue that contributed to a significant skin injury. The original washing machine has been retained and remains available for inspection.

The product, in the report: washer / dryer

While using my LG front-load washer Direct Drive, TrueSteam model, the machine began emitting an abnormally intense amount of steam during a cycle far beyond what is normal for this model’s steam function. The steam output appeared consistent with a fire hazard developing inside the unit. I was home alone with my two young children at the time. I have video documentation of the incident.

Separately, over the past two weeks, the matching LG dryer (Sensor Dry, TrueSteam) has been making extremely loud knocking noises during operation. I am not certain whether the two issues are related, but given that both units are part of the same matched washer/dryer set, I believe there may be a broader defect or safety issue affecting this model line.

I contacted LG customer service to report the fire hazard and was told I would need to pay for a technician to assess the cost of the issue, despite this being a safety hazard rather than a routine repair. During a follow-up call, a supervisor disconnected the call after I calmly expressed disappointment with how the situation was being handled.

The product, in the report: LG fro load washing machine

LG front load Washing machine made a loud noise during spin cycle. I came to look and it looked like the machine tore itself apart. The door had flung open, the gasket was pulled out, water spilling out, and it was still trying to spin. I switched it off and saw a bolt piece has broken off and flew into the next room. A large piece of plastic-covered concrete was laying on the ground, the machine was dented (and dented the dryer bedside it). Theres damage to the wall where some part hit. I was fortunate that no one or pets were nearby when this happened!

The product, in the report: The product is an LG WM4000HBA front-load, high-efficiency residential washing machine. The washer is a 4.5 cubic foot capacity model in a Black Steel finish. The unit measures approximately 27 inches wide, 39 inches high, and 30.25 inches deep (approximately 55 inches deep with the door fully open).

I purchased an LG WM4000HBA front-load washing machine to replace my prior washer and used it for normal household laundry. Immediately after the machine was installed, I began experiencing significant reactions when near the appliance.

The strongest odor appeared to be coming from inside the washer, particularly from the rubber door gasket and the area where the gasket connects to the stainless steel drum. When clothing was washed in the machine, that odor transferred onto the clothing.

I was the primary user of the washing machine and was using it exactly as intended to wash clothing and household fabrics. I did not change my detergent, fabric softener, or any other laundry products. I had used the same products for years in my prior washer and dryer without experiencing any issues.

After exposure to the washer and laundry washed inside it, I experienced burning and itching of my eyes, severe nasal congestion, throat irritation, and difficulty breathing. The symptoms would begin rapidly after being near the appliance or handling the freshly washed clothing.

The reaction was significant enough that I could not use the washing machine or wear clothing that had been washed in it. This left me without a safe way to clean my clothing and required me to return the appliance.

I am reporting this issue because I am concerned that materials, coatings, manufacturing residues, or other substances associated with this appliance may pose a health risk to individuals with chemical sensitivities, MCAS, eczema, asthma, or similar conditions. I believe it is important for the CPSC to be aware that a consumer experienced respiratory symptoms, eye irritation, and skin-related symptoms associated with normal use of this product.

The product, in the report: LG high efficiency stackable medium front load washer - WM3400CW

On Wednesday May 20, 2025, I (mother) went to the grocery store and left my son (2 years old) and husband at home. I got a call while I was gone that our LG front loader washing machine front glass exploded and broke when my son just gently touched it. My son got cuts on his hands, arms, and legs from the incident. The washing machine was off and not running at the time. He did not have anything in his hands, and did not hit it hard. He simply touched it with his hands. I immediately filed an escalated claim with LG and was told I would hear back within 24-48h. That was now 6 days ago, and every time I call to get an update, Im told the same thing. We immediately cleaned up the glass, and removed both the washing machine and dryer (also an LG) from our home.

The product, in the report: LG WM8100HVA is a 5.2 cu. ft. Mega Capacity front-load washer in Graphite Steel, designed for large households, capable of washing king-size comforters

I am reporting a serious safety issue with my LG front-load washer (Model WM8100HVA).

During a normal cycle, a support spring clip failed and detached. The spring then cut into the metal frame, causing the drum to drop while the machine was spinning with a full load. The washer became violently unstable and moved about two feet across the floor.

The failure also broke the shock absorbers. Despite this extreme imbalance, the machine did not shut off or display an error it continued spinning at high speed. I had to manually try to power it off while it was still moving, creating a significant risk of injuries This incident posed a serious safety hazard to my household. Although no one was hurt, the lack of automatic shutoff during a catastrophic failure is very concerning. I am requesting an investigation into this potential product safety defect.

I was doing laundry in my LG front load washer and heard alot of banging noises coming from it - checked machine, it was on the last spin cycle, stopped machine, opened the door and SMOKE came out! Immediately unplugged it and have not used it since. As far as I am concerned, POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD! I have never had that happen to me before - been doing laundry for almost 45 years. SPONTANEOUS DRYER GLASS DOOR EXPLOSION in my LG Single Unit GAS WashTower with Center Control (Washer/Dryer combo) Model WKGX201HBA. During a normal dryer cycle, the inner tempered glass of the dryer door spontaneously exploded inward. No injuries occured, but the unit is in our main living area frequented by our 5-year-old child, who could have been seriously injured. Two wks later, LQThinQ app gave washer error despite unit being unplugged for 10+ days. Poor response from LG Support and Service, who has not replied to my messages in 2 weeks. Need unit replaced ASAP due to safety hazards.

I purchased a brand new LG washer and it arrived with the balancing fluid leaking out of the seam which in turn corroded the inside of the stainless steel tub. A substance to corrode stainless steel can be very caustic. I contacted LG and they stated to just simply wipe the blue crystallized substance off and use the washing machine. I will not use knowing an unbalanced washing machine can cause severe damage to the machine and bodily harm if standing near it. The machine is brand new and LG refuses to acknowledge they have a major defect on this balancing system. I will not use the machine but because I did install within 14 days of delivery (because I farm and also repainting the laundry room) they will not fix nor replace the machine. It also does not fall under warranty although as you can see the corrosive substance all over the tub, because the rusting was not from the tub defect. And this machine is brand new. I am learning from a web search trying to figure out what the blue stuff is that several others are having the same issue, except they are getting burns, ruined clothing and physical damage from washing machines becoming unbalanced. Its a safety hazard and fraudulent they will not replace a brand new clearly defective washing machine. I find it bad business practice also that even though the machine is brand new and never used, no warranty is even in place to cover a clear defect. I did not install right away but the same consumer would have had this issue if it sat on their warehouse floor for 3 months and was delivered and opened immediately. Its a major defect.

The consumer washed a load of clothing, and the machine shook so violently that it turned sideways. The washer broke the plumbing of the sink right next to it. The consumer had to hire a plumber and paid approximately $3000.00 for the repairs the broken plastic plumbing pipes. The washer hit a nearby wall and now, two sides of the washer are bowed outward. The consumer said that it sounded as if someone dropped a bomb in the basement. There were no injuries.

(7/2025): She called the manufacturer and reported the concern to them. Their representative (name unavailable) told her that the damage to the washer was cosmetic. They told the consumer that she would have to pay $394.00 for them to send out a service technician to cover repairs.

The consumer and her husband tried the washer 2 additional times, and it worked without shaking. However, they are extremely concerned about using the washer in the future.

This problem seems appears to be identical to the on CPSC Recall 13-073.

I am reporting a defective LG washer/dryer combo (Model WM6998HBA, purchased from Costco). The unit has leaked repeatedly for nearly a year and does not properly filter or remove lint. The lint recirculates inside the drum, raising fire concerns.

We had seven technician visits, and LG acknowledged the unit was defective but never fixed it. Their Presidential Liaison ([REDACTED]) offered a refund only if I signed a waiver that included a gag order, legal rights waiver, and agreement to dispose of the unit. I declined.

In addition to the safety and electrical concerns, the washer has developed visible mold inside the machine due to ongoing moisture, improper drainage, and lack of lint evacuation. I am very concerned about the health risk.

My husbandwho already had high blood pressuredeveloped atrial fibrillation (AFib) during this time, and his doctor stated that stress contributed to it.

I am afraid to use the machine and believe LG has attempted to silence the problem instead of fixing a known defect.

(1/2025) In January 2025, I bought an LG washer (Model number WM4000HWA) that emitted fumes that made me and my husband feel dizzy, disoriented, and gave me headaches. All signs of neurotoxin exposure. The machine emitted a solvent like smell that permeated our house. For at least 9 months prior to delivery of the machine, the VOCs in our house were measured below 200. As soon as the machine was delivered, the VOC readings shot up to 1,981, which is nearly 5 times the limit of good air quality. When I called LG online to return the washer, I was basically bullied into not having a repair person come out and was told to run the machine 10 times to see if the fumes would get any better. I had only run it 8 times. I ran the washer 18 times, and the fumes got WORSE. When the machine wasn’t running, it also emitted fumes that made myself and my husband feel poisoned. Others on the internet complain about the fumes. They report the same reaction to the fumes: headache, dizziness, and disorientation. Others report that the fumes get worse with use. Replacement machines also have the same issue. To get a refund, LG wanted me to sign a document that stipulated that they could not be held liable for damages and that my heirs could not hold them liable. They also wanted me to dispose of the machine myself according to applicable laws, but they would not tell me the chemicals in the machine so that I could dispose of the machine according to applicable laws. I refused to sign the document. I am reporting this because I am concerned about the health of consumers. An appliance salesman told me that the company had to regularly return LG machines due to fumes. He said that LG had changed their manufacturing processes and there were issues with the machines like the one I experienced.

What happened: In January 2025, I bought an LG washer (Model number WM4000HWA) that emitted fumes that made me and my husband feel dizzy, disoriented, and gave me headaches. I ran the washer 18 times, and the fumes got WORSE. When the machine wasn’t running, it also emitted fumes that made myself and my husband feel poisoned. Running the machine more times just made the air quality in our house worse. WE ran the machine on santiation and steam in an attempt to get rid of the fumes, and this really made the problem a lot worse. To avoid further exposure, my husband and I stayed in a hotel at first but later rented a house in the neighborhood for a month. WE attempted to get rid of the fumes by opening all windows and doors in our house on a daily basis, but it was wintertime, and this only cooled the house down. As soon as we turned on the heat and closed up the house, the VOCs would shoot up again. We finally moved the washer to our outside porch.

Others on the internet complain about the fumes. They report the same reaction to the fumes: headache, dizziness, and disorientation. Others report that the fumes get worse with use. The agreement also stipulated that I not disclose the agreement to anyone. I refused to sign the document. I am reporting this because I am concerned about the health of consumers. Despite not signing the agreement, I finally got a refund using other means.

During a normal wash cycle, my LG top-load washer (Model WT4801CW, Serial 108KWVZ59025) violently shook due to an unbalanced load. The shaking was so extreme that a securely placed container of detergent and other items fell off a shelving unit onto the washer. The glass lid then shattered completely. This presented a serious safety hazard and caused property damage.

LG previously had issues with violent shaking and lid failures on similar models. This is a product safety concern, not normal wear and tear.

WARNING!! UNSAFE MACHINE! I purchased an LG Washing Machine Model# WM4000HWA on 11/29/24. On 1/7/25, the inner glass door on the unit spontaneously and completely shattered. The unit was not in use at the time when I heard a loud crashing sound and went to the unit and found broken glass on the floor and inside the machine. I immediately contacted LG Customer Service, and they refused to cover the damage under the manufacturers warranty and claimed it was our fault. LG claimed the damage was caused by how we used the machine, but for the 41 days we had the machine, it was probably used a dozen times with very typical clothing loads.

LG arranged a local repair service center to come to assess the unit. After the technician from [REDACTED] (Burbank, CA) looked at the machine for 2 minutes, he somehow concluded that it was NOT a manufacturer defect and therefore the damage was customer responsibility. They suspiciously provided no evidence or reason for this conclusion.

This spontaneously shattering glass has been cited before ([REDACTED]). This article states that According to the [REDACTED], spontaneous exploding glass is a phenomenon in which nickel sulfide, which is introduced in tiny amounts during the production process of plate glass, expands in volume after tempering, or naturally breaks by small scratches during processing and product use. It is usually characterized by sudden breakage without any signs.

You can also find [REDACTED] threads on this issue, as well: [REDACTED]

The LG Customer Service process is also very deceptive. Numerous LG representatives have told me that my case has been elevated to the highest level with the Presidential Liaison Team, therefore the live representative that I speak to at their normal Customer Service number (800)243-0000 cannot actually do anything with case. There is no way to directly speak with the Presidential team. The only contact I have received from this Presidential team are text messages that state that someone (in our case, [REDACTED]) has attempted to call us but no one has answered their call. This is a lie, as I have carefully paid attention to and answered every call that I have received since this incident occurred. Also, I have never received a voicemail from [REDACTED], and the text message is from a phone number that cannot be replied to. The outcome of not being able to contact us is that LG has closed the case. This customer service approach to handling warranty issues indicates a corporate culture of customer evasion, resisting responsibility, and false warranties.

My LG washer broke while using it. The washer was running a cycle when suddenly I heard a HUGE crash. When I ran to investigate I found the washer had jump the hard plastic tray that is under it to catch water. I also noticed there were dents on the front of the washer, so something obviously rammed it from the inside as the dents were facing out. Also, broken was the inside of the top of the washer’s plastic edge. When I removed the wash that was washing, I found a sharp gray plastic piece in the clothes that fit the edge that was missing the piece. This washer was only 4 year old. I had an extended warranty in place and they determined the clutch needed to be replaced. The broken tub part was not available so they refunded my purchase price so I could get a new washer. I am very concerned about this because of the force when the clutch went, causing the LOUD crash, jumping the hard plastic tray, damaging a hard plastic edge of the tub and causing multiple dents on the inside of the front cover!

The consumer reported the matter to the manufacturer and they offered to send out a technician on 7/24/2024.

The technician came out, took a pictures of the washer, and noted the serial number. He told the consumer that this washer was not repairable. The technician submitted the information to the manufacturer. The technician even called back a few days later to check on the consumer.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer to inquire about the status, but the representative (name unavailable) told him that the matter was escalated and someone would follow up with them at a later time, but they could not provide a time frame. The rep. told the consumer that his model matched the ones in CPSC Recall# 13-073, but his serial number was not included.

My husband, daughter(visiting) and I came running from different rooms. My daughter arrived in the laundry room first to find that the washing machine was pushed out from the wall and that the sides of the machine were buckled and damaged. We hit pause (it was still running), unplugged the machine, and turned the water off. There was only one item in the machine, a mattress pad cover which has been washed numerous times in this machine. The machine was in the final spin cycle. There were no unusual sounds or advance warning before the explosion. This machine is only 5 years old. As a household of two seniors, our laundry usage is very modest which makes this even more shocking.

An LG washing machine that we bought brand new about 3 years ago exploded. It is completely warped and exploded so violently that is now wedged between our dryer and stuck in our wall. It caused much damage to the surrounding area, our dryer which we can now no longer use, and a leak. I set a load to wash with 2 throw blankets and a fitted sheet - the washer was about half full - not even close to a full load. LG has provided terrible support and confirmed that they will only pay for the washer and not the other damage it caused. They have taken 0 accountability and in fact said “it was our fault it blow up.” This is disappointing and quite shocking. How could we make the washing machine blow up. Thankfully, we were in a separate room when it exploded. The explosion was so loud that I thought a bomb went off, I pressed 911 on my phone and was ready to hit the call button at any second. I am sharing this so that LG can take accountability for this explosion and I hope it stops this from happening to others.

I purchased an LG Model # WT7150CW, 5.0 cu. ft. Top Load Washer in White with Impeller, NeverRust Drum and TurboDrum Technology from Home Depot. It was delivered on December 14th, 2023. I noticed 3 days later that when the washing machine spins at the beginning of the cycle and at the end of the cycle, it makes a very high pitch noise that causes me to have headaches. It is so high pitched that if you’re older, you likely can no longer hear it. However, if you have good hearing, the noise is painful. I can hear this noise when I’m in the basement, where the washing machine is located, and when I’m on other floors of my home. I’ve contacted Home Depot and the Major Appliance Protection Plan warranty (The Home Depot Protection Plan by [REDACTED]) and both have said they can’t do anything. They will not refund me for the product or exchange the product. LG continues to sell this product even though this is known issue. The consumer cannot know about this ahead of time because obviously we are not allowed to test run a washing machine in the store. Even if older parents can’t hear the noise, their children and pets will be able to.

The product, in the report: Washing Machine

The consumer’s wife had a load of laundry washing when approximately fifteen minutes later she started smelling smoke. When the consumer’s wife went into the laundry room she noticed flames coming out of the back of the washer. The consumer heard his wife’s screams and ran to the laundry room. Because he could not get near the unit he switched its circuit breaker off. Both of them proceeded to use a bucket of water and a garden hose to stop the fire.

The consumer notes that the washing machine underneath it was damaged beyond repair, and the dryer next to it was scorched.

The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to arranged for a service technician to verify the unit caught fire. Once the technician verified the damaged unit, the consumer was informed they would provide him with a prorated refund.

The consumer states that, prior to the incident, the unit was used five times per day.

The consumer plans on keeping his washing machine for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

There was a recall of LG top-loading washing machines in 2012 with a violent thrashing occurring during the spin cycle. Our machine purchased in 2021 has the same problem. I have replaced the struts that support the drum twice and it still has the problem. This occurs with all the different kinds of loads - from light laundry to towels and bedding.

I purchased a LG washer from Home Depot on March 9, 2022, with an expected delivery date of March 17, 2022. A damaged washer was delivered on March 18, 2022. My husband contacted a representative from Home Depot and permission was given to my husband to use the washer until a replacement washer was delivered. My husband was informed the vendor would be contacted concerning the damaged washer. I contacted Home Depot on March 21, 2022 to report a loud noise from the washer when used and was transferred to an LG representative. I was informed by this representative that LG washers do not normally make loud noises and since a replacement washer was ordered, no action was taken. On March 26, 2022, the damaged Washer failed to operate. The breaker was checked by my 31-year-old son, and he reported that it was making a loud hissing noise. The Washer was unplugged. I contacted an electrician on Mar 28, 2022, and the breaker box was checked by the electrician on March 29, 2022. We were informed that the dedicated breaker for the washer and gas dryer was burned which also caused damage to the buss bar of the panel board from heat and was a fire hazard. On March 30, 2022, the electrician installed new breakers, arc fault breakers, and 200-amp main breaker 40/80 service. On March 31, 2022, the replacement washer was delivered. On that day, I contacted LG Customer Care. All documentation requested including pictures of damaged Washer and damaged breaker/breaker box buss panel and invoice to replace the damaged breaker box was provided by April 5, 2022. On April 6, 2022, I received a call from Customer Care informing me I would receive a call from Product Liability on April 7, 2022 or April 8, 2022. No time was given for the expected call on either April 7 or April 8. And no identifying telephone number from Product Liability was given. I was instructed to answer all calls from Alabama or Tennessee. I never received a call from Product Liability. On April 20, I read a text sent on April 13 stating my case was closed because a washer could not damage a breaker box. On April 20, 2022, I sent a letter to LG Legal Department which was received on April 25, 2022 per USPS tracking. I followed the procedure for resolving disputes outlined in the Owner’s Manual. On June 9, 2022, I submitted a complaint to share with the LG President (actually the President of Customer Care per the electronic signature) due to no response from the legal department after more than 30 days. I received a call from the same representative I talked to on April 6, 2022. I was informed that I would need to have a lawyer talk to their legal team although it never indicated this in the procedure for resolving disputes. I have not hired a lawyer.

I purchased an LG washing machine. When it was delivered on January 3rd, 2023, I noticed some chemical odor but I attributed it to the plastic and styrofoam packaging the machine had been packed in, and I expected it would dissipate now that the machine was unboxed and the packaging was not in my house. I avoided being in the room with it for the first couple of days but I did have exacerbation of asthma symptoms after the washing machine came into my house. On January 5th when the odor was no longer detectable in the room, I hooked up the machine and followed the instructions in the manual to run a test load. I noticed the odor was still there when I opened the machine to put the test load in. After I ran the test load it had not spun properly and the items were sopping wet, plus the odor was now very strong. It smelled something like turpentine. I contacted LG customer support via the chat function on their website. The customer support agent instructed me to run a rinse and spin cycle again. I did that, and this time it did spin, but the chemical odor was still very strong. I told the customer support agent that it smelled a lot like turpentine. The agent asked if it smelled musty or mildewy, and I repeated that it smelled more like turpentine than anything else I could think of. The agent advised me to run a tub clean cycle. I did that, and the odor permeated my house and severely exacerbated my asthma symptoms. The following day I called LG customer support, thinking this was a defective unit and could be exchanged. But this time the customer service agent told me that it is normal for their new machines to emit these fumes, and I should run up to 10 more loads to dissipate it. In the meantime my asthma symptoms escalated until I had to go to an urgent care clinic. I do not think it is reasonable to expect people to run 10 loads on a machine that is emitting fumes which trigger asthma attacks.

LG WT7300 top loader washing machine. Over past year has been not powering up sporadically and requires hard reset. When unplug then plug it back in sparks sometimes (and popping sound). This problem has been now occurring everytime after use and sometimes takes several hours unplugged before it will power on. We have replaced the outlet thinking it was an issue with this, however, continues to spark and power off with new outlet (which works fine when other small appliances are plugged in). After researching online this seems to be a common problem with this series of LG washers. LG is unable to offer a solution from what I have seen.

I contacted LG. They determined that they would pay for labor but not for the cord replacement that was obviously not properly secured above and behind the laundry tub. I was told it was the cord for the switch. It took from 10/3 until 11/2 for the repairman to “Diagnose”--I had sent a picture. Now it will take another 4 weeks for them to replace/order the part. Exposed wires and water do not mix.

I have an LGwasher that did not stop while a load was unbalanced and violently rocked 3 feet away from the wall ending up sideways but not before damaging my countertop and the dryer beside it. The washer itself rocked so violently that it warped or blew out the left side of the washer. It hit the countertop and broke the corner causing damage to the [REDACTED]. The machine is warped inside and is irreparable. LG will not acknowledge the defect and say it is “user error” which is ludicrous. I washed a waterproof mattress protector as I have done many times in the past. However, this time the sensor that should stop the machine when a load is off balance malfunctioned and did not stop the washer. I am thankful that no child or my pets were around the machine. LG is refusing to rectify and stand behind their product. Nor will they compensate me for the property damage caused by the machine namely the countertop and the dryer. They dispatched an appliance repairman that just optically looked at the machine and sent them a report, (because they paid for the service call) that said “user error”. He never performed any kind of mechanical examination of the washer. “User Error” is such an insult to my intelligence. On the machine itself, the label tells you to wash waterproof items on the waterproof cycle, which I did. For that [REDACTED] to say that and they take his word over mine is so unfair and for lack of a better turn a cop out. I will never purchase another LG product and I will discourage any other consumer from buying their products. I have talked through social media and everyone that has had problems with their products never get resolutions. They get they exact same response “user error” .

I bought the top load machine instead of the front load to keep away from the mold issue.( I had previously bought a front loader) is there any kind of refund so that I can either get this fixed or buy a different kind of washer? Specifications (found on the website, not found in the manuals that came with the unit) say the dryer takes 16 amps. Email to support confirms that the label is wrong. Relying on the label and running both parts at the same time would at least pop a circuit breaker and might cause a more dangerous overload.

Description of risk of harm: fire risk from overloaded electrical circuit machine failure from abrupt shutdown if circuit breaker protects against above.

Our LG front-loading washing machine, model WM3700HWA, began making loud knocking noises during the spin cycle. After disassembly, we discovered that the right balance weight had become partially detached from the drum and was rubbing the wiring harness leading from the control panel to other components in the washer. While the wires themselves appear to be OK, the sheathing covering the wiring had been worn through. No injuries occurred, but the wires may been exposed if washer use had continued.

I REMINDED THEM THAT THIS WAS A RECALL, NOT A REGULAR SERVICE CALL. THEY UNDERSTOOD AND THEY OFFERED A 10% OFF REBATE IF I PURCHASED A NEW WASHER. NO THANK YOU! THEY SHOULD REPLACE THIS WASHER. My LG top load washer is on recall for violently shaking. I reported it June 6th and parts were ordered. i called back 2 week later and they said the parts was on indefinite back order. They never called me to tell me that. They kept putting me off. The washer now doesn’t even turn on. July 13th I complained and they escalated it to the executive department to replace it. Told me 3-4 weeks to review the case. I called two weeks later and was told another week. i called back in a week and was told another week. Called and talked to a representative on 8/18. He was helpful and escalated it again and told me to call back in a week. So now it’s been 2 1/2 months with no resolution. No washer. At what point do i have some recourse to get this resolved? The product, in the report: LG Top Loading Washing Machine “Wave Force” Model Number: WT5101HV Serial Number: 004KWKS04165 Purchased approximately April 2011

On April 26, I loaded my LG top-loading washing machine with a small load of laundry. I ran the wash on a regular cotton cycle. About 20 minutes into the cycle, I heard extremely loud noises coming from the laundry room - it sounded like a large truck was crashing into my house or several loud explosions. When I entered the laundry room, the washing machine was violently moving and bumping the dryer next to it and the wall. The inside of the machine appeared to have exploded - the drum of the machine was no longer intact and was spinning with such force, that it damaged the metal casing of the machine. Once the metal casing / frame of the machine broke, it caused particles of plastic and other debris to shoot from the machine. My 13 year old son was with me and we yelled for a family member to help. My husband came up and unplugged the machine. When we looked into the washer, we saw that the drum was completely detached, the metal parts of the machine completely damaged and warped, and portions of the machine seemed corroded. The laundry in the machine was covered in particles of plastic, rubber and metal and not salvageable. The incident was frightening. Had we been in the room, we would’ve likely been hurt.

Washing machine was near end of cycle. Contained 1 item, light blanket. This had been washed plenty of times in the past without issues. Blanket did not take much space at all in the machine, perhaps 1/3. Machine has no stem or protruding inner up the middle as older machines had. I heard an extremely loud sound in basement where machine is located that caused the biggest traumatic trigger for me that I could not move. It sounded like a bomb exploded. the sound was a clear explosion. I was afraid something else would happen when seconds later I heard significantly loud booming sounds from the machine (like a fire or second explosion). When I went downstairs, I saw that the top lid literally was blasted off and there was water everywhere. I’m afraid there would have been significant additional damage to my home if it were not located in the basement.

NOTE: The washer began to shake excessively within the first year that it was purchased. This prompted the consumer to call the mfr. In either 2012 or 2013, the washer was repaired by an authorized mfr’s tech., under [REDACTED]. The consumer only found out about the recall after he called them about his incident.

The washer began to shake excessively after the recall repair was done. On 2 different occasions, the washer’s clutch was replaced, by 2 authorized manufacturer’s technicians.

Both times, after the washer was repaired, the excessive shaking returned and became worse over time. The shaking was severe enough to cause the washer to move out of place. The washer never caused any damage to the home.

12/10/2019: The washer was going into the spin cycle, when the bottom dropped out and allowed water to leak all over the floor. The consumer and his wife, had to hand wring their clothing and carry water in the home The wife sustained an injury to her back from handling clothing and water in this fashion.. Around the top of the washer tub, there is a plastic rim around the top. There were broken pieces of plastic that fell down into the tub. The consumer contacted the same repair company who has been servicing his washer. The repairman that came out said “this cannot be fixed. The washer would have to be replaced or a refund given.” This washer is located on the 2nd floor of the consumer’s home and some of the water leaked onto the floor beneath the washer.

12/2019: The consumer called manufacturer and the repair company. The mfr. would not do anything for him. The mfr’s rep. told him that they would need an actual receipt from the place of purchase. The consumer offered to provide a cancelled check, but was told that would not work. He also checked with the retailer and they only keep records back to 2012. His washer was purchased in 2011.

My husband and I purchased an LG washing machine from Sears in 2011 and have been using it with no problems for the past 8 1/2 years. On December 4, 2019, I was washing two pillow cases, two towels and a mattress cover. My washing machine is on the main floor and I was upstairs. Suddenly, I heard a very loud explosion. When I got downstairs, the bi-fold door in front of my washer was standing in the hallway. The top of the washer had blown off, the sides were bent outward, and there was a hole in the wall behind the washer. I reached out to LG that same day and they sent me an email the next day asking me for pictures, a copy of the purchase receipt, the serial, product and model numbers of the washer. I sent all but the serial number because it was behind the washer and I was unable to move the washer. When my husband returned home, we were able to move the washer to get the serial number which I sent to LG on December 9th. As of today, December 13th, I have not heard anything from them. After doing some research, we have learned that there was a recall on this model. We never received notice of the recall. I don’t know about later models, but this model is very dangerous and more should have been done to make the consumers aware of the danger. I was fortunate enough to be upstairs when the explosion occurred. Had I been downstairs taking clothes out the the dryer, I could have been injured or killed.

Front loading washer in spin cycle heard spinning much faster than usual for about 15 seconds. I saw the unit suddenly explode, the top lifted off hitting wall cabinets, the door popped open, and plastic schrapnel landed up to 8 feet away and the washer electronics shut off. No smoke or fire. Exterior housing of washer was damaged and the adjacent dryer was also damaged with a large dent both outside and inside the dryer drum. The drum inside is split, dented, and twisted. The dryer drum will not turn now, so that appliance suffered unrepairable damage. The washer had functioned well and normally until this point. I was about ten feet away when the explosion occurred.

The product, in the report: White LG washing machine WT 4801CW

My top loading LG washing machine model number WT4801CW exploded before the spin cycle. The top popped off, the control panel popped open, the drum completely detached, the machine jumped up punched holes in the drywall opposite of where it was sitting that went all the way thru to the other side of the wall, and it landed outside the laundry room. There were also pieces of the plastic from the machine everywhere and it was now leaning. I only had 2 twin sized fitted sheets in the washer while it was in use. I called my home warranty company ([REDACTED]) to repair the machine and their repairman told me all the shocks were broken. They denied my claim to fix the machine stating that the damage was caused due to overloading, despite me telling them it was not even half way full and sending photos to prove it.

A google search showed me that these explosions were common with LG top loaders, however, my model was not under recall. I called LG and explained to them that my incident was the same as all of the other 100’s of complaints about their top loaders that I saw reported online. There was even a similar class action lawsuit for [REDACTED] machines having the same problem. In the end, LG said there was nothing they could do because the machine was over a year old (purchased 2012). I am glad I wasn’t near the machine when it happened or I would have for sure been in the hospital. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard in my life, I was terrified!

The product, in the report: LG Washing Machine (Model: WT5270CW), white, High Efficiency 4.9 cu ft, impeller type (no agitator). Purchased at Home Depot in Topeka, KS on 11-22-15.

Our LG Washing Machine (Model: WT5270CW) was being used to wash a set of microfiber queen size sheets and a mattress pad, when it exploded during what we believe to be the spin cycle. This machine is a 4.9 cu. ft. machine, and was a little over half full of fabric items at the time this occurred. The machine came apart from the top and every side of the machine was dented outward deforming all four sides of the machine. The exploding machine also slammed into my laundry room wall, putting a hole through the Sheetrock that measures 12 inches by 23 inches. My son was in the house and heard it, but the laundry room door was closed when it happened. He was the only one inside the home when this occurred. No water damage occurred as a result of this product failure. No injuries were sustained from this product failure, although there could have been if anyone had been in the laundry room at that time.

The product, in the report: Lg washing machine. Top load with clear glass door Graphite steel color

The LG washer had two standard size sheets cotton off of a bed being washed. Which is a small load. Was being ran on standard cycle. The machine essentially had a catastrophic failure and blew the entire top portion of the washing machine off and the drum sideways. The metal sides are significantly bent and warped, and the top lid/structure was only being held on by water supply lines from the homes wall. It fell off the front of the washing machine and was dangling, No longer attached at all to the bottom base structure of the washing machine. This caused a hole to be knocked in our wall that is about 7 inches by 5 inches and saturated the floor with water. At no time did the machine make any weird vibrations, give error codes, or have any apparent wobbling of being off balance signs.

Obviously the amount of force it hit the wall with would be enough force to potentially cause severe injuries to an adult, but especially a child.

I have contacted LG, and they tell me this model number is under recall and they would be sending a service technician to evaluate to see if they would offer repair or warranty work.

The product, in the report: Top loading washing machine

Last night our washer suffered a catastrophic failure during the spin cycle. We heard a tremendous noise upstairs, a huge boom that sounded like an explosion or a tree falling on the house. When we went to see what happened, we found the door to the laundry closet knocked open, a dent in the wall, and the top of the washing machine broken off of the cabinet. The drum was badly tilted, with part of the upper rim broken away, a plastic mount at the front of the cabinet badly broken and split open, and the front of the cabinet bent. The display showed a UE (unbalanced load), but the machine is supposed to stop itself if it can’t rebalance the load.

This was extremely scary to both my wife and myself, not only from the horrible noise and shock, but also the thought that someone might have been injured if they were standing in front of the washer when this occurred.

In doing some research, I see that the manufacturer previously had a CPSC government recall for the same issue on other models. I have also read reports of the drum attachment hardware coming loose and causing balance problems as well.

THE TOP OF THE WASHER CAME OFF, TWISTED AROUND, DAMAGING AND RUINING MY DRYER AND TWO WALLS. I BEGAN LOOKING ONLINE FOR WASHERS AND CAME ACROSS THE RECALL AND CONTACTED LG. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE WASHER, STATING THERE WAS NO RECALL, EVEN AFTER I READ THE RECALL TO THEM ON THE PHONE. IF I HAD BEEN IN MY LAUNDRY ROOM, I WOULD HAVE SUFFERED SOME TYPE OF INJURY. This evening my LG washing machine suffered a catastrophic failure causing property damage. Myself, my wife and two daughters were home at 9:30pm on Feb 26, 2019 and heard a deafeningly loud noise that sounded like thunder inside our home. It appears our washing machine experienced an internal explosion that rotated the washer 180 degrees, and moved about three feet from the wall, pulling the electrical cord from the socket. The hot and cold water hoses appear to have restrained the machine from moving further from the wall. The metal side panels are deformed in multiple places and the top section and control panel are separated from the main unit. As a result of the explosion, the machine struck and damaged the walls of our laundry room and they will require repair. My daughter and wife were sitting on a sofa in an adjacent room against the same wall that was struck and damaged by the washing machine. I am concerned for the safety of my family or anyone using this model of machine, and feel very fortunate that nobody was in the laundry room when the explosion took place.

I run their recommended “tub clean” cycle every week or so with [REDACTED tablets. I also keep my drain on the bottom of the front of the machine empty. I’m constantly having black stains on my clothes, straight out of the washer, that bubble like peroxide has been poured on them when I apply oxiclean. This can not be healthy for us. The product, in the report: Purchased a new LG front load washer and dryer from Sears in or around 2009. I bought the set because I was under the impression the washer used less water and was interested in the savings. Just a few months later I noticed a smell on my clothes. This included the white loads washed with bleach. I found that there was water sitting in the door seal so I cleaned it out. Over time it turned the seal had black mildew and I scrubbed but I couldn’t get it off. Now with this being said I did monthly cleanings and a friend told me to leave the door open when not in use. It made no difference and continued to get worse til I stopped using it. What a waste of money!! I now know why the are selling these used front loaders online on [Redacted] and everywhere else. I will never again purchase a front loader! The manufactures should of taken care of these problems when they were made aware of them. Shame on them!! Their negligence has cause health problem for many.

Purchased a new LG front loader washer and dryer set. It has been the worst for nasty mold and water collecting in the base as well as in the rubber seali on inside of door! Washed clothes come out smelling funny and even after a re wash they still smell. Now this is even with whites that have been washed with bleach! Now I understand these companies were aware of the rubber seal problem as well as the base collecting nasty water! This really upsets me because they could of made this good by replacing the seal with something better and well as fixing the base issue! But since they didn’t do the proper thing it has gave ALL front load washing machines a bad name and I mean very bad. I for one will never again purchase one. And I notice a lot of them are for sell pretty cheap on [REDACTED]..etc. They really screwed up and were dishonest to consumers. What a shame!... only but from manufactures that aren’t on the list. They still deserve the business!!!

The product, in the report: LG TrueBalance top load smart washer, white, purchased at Lowe’s in 2014, Model #WT4870CW

I have a model of an LG TrueBalance top loading washer which has not yet been recalled. This washer agitates so violently that it shakes out of position, damaging the dryer next to it. It also rattled the drum loose to the point where it leaks from the back, pooling water on the electrical wires below. The leak created property damage when it flooded a portion of my basement. Another concern is the rust and erosion of the metal around the bleach cup.

LG put out a recall on three older models, citing the safety dangers due to shaking. It is my belief that this recall falls short of capturing the full scope of the safety issue. My model has the exact same parts related to the recall including the motor, drain pump and pulsator assembly parts. This has been verified by two sources; the parts supplier and online documentation.

I contacted LG with my concerns and their responses to me included “not enough people have complained about your model”, “I consulted with our product liability team and I cannot transfer you to them because your damage claim is denied”, “your claim is denied because there is no recall on your machine” and “you don’t need to worry about safety because it wasn’t your model that was recalled.” The absence of other complaints and telling me I don’t need to worry about it does not negate my situation. My video shows the same performance issues and their lack of concern makes me question the integrity of the company to take safety concerns seriously. I’m afraid without help, this will continue to be blocked despite clearly proven links in model performance.

The washing machine began to shake so violently that we shut the door in case it went full on [REDACTED] and exploded we often thought it was going to be the day it happened the struts were replaced the software was updated the tub nut was tightened numerous times with [REDACTED] and it still was shaking so violently that now there is a hole in the tub and it leaks all over the floor creating water damage. Below it asked for a incident date and honestly there are too many to even count I have children and a husband who needs his clothes washed I don’t have time to wait for a technician to possibly come out or even call me 3 to 5 days from now then make an appointment God knows how long that will take why wouldn’t they just allow you to take it in or have it be replaced.

The product, in the report: LG Front Load Washing Machine

Sunday May 13, 2018 PM I was sitting in the kitchen waiting for the load of laundry to complete. The load of wash was in its final spin when I hear a high pitch whine like the sound of a jet engine. As I get up to run to the laundry room I hear an extremely loud boom and crash. When I went into the room the washing machine was off the pedestal and on the floor. The washing machine door was opened, and parts of the machine scattered on the floor. My husband was outside and heard the crash and thought it was the neighbor having a dump truck load of rock delivered on his driveway. He never thought the sound could possibly come from inside our home. I called LG Customer Service at 1-800-243-0000 within an hour of the incident. The LG associate took my information and said she sent case notes to the Product Liability Unit. She stated someone from Product Liability Unit will return my call within 24-48 hours. Although my husband and I were not injured, we were exposed to a hazard that could have caused a major injury or death. l have placed several calls to LG without resolution. My last contact May 18, 2018 was with [REDACTED] in the Safety Concerns Unit. [REDACTED] stated she forwarded our photos to the LG engineers and would get back to me. To date I have not received a response. We are talking about a very serious hazard. The potential gravity of the situation is a high concern for me as someone could have been easily hurt. I feel LG lack of concern increases the safety of other families.

Received an E6 error. Device has always shaken excessively just as the prior model was reported to do and recalled. I believe this model to have the same issues. I have a WT5170HV. The E60 error appeared and washer stopped during a small load with water in tub. Even upon taking all items out, the machine wiggles the barrel as if checking for balance, then stops and displays the error. I have verified no coins or paperclips in the bottom as everything spins freely.

While washing a load of sheets, the washer apparently got off balance, instead of shutting off like normal, the drum detached from anchors, turned washer 180 degrees, pulled itself about 2 feet from original position and popped off the entire top of washer. This is a top loading machine with model number wt5001cw. LG doesn’t want to do anything about it because the unit is 7yrs old and no longer under warranty.

2014: There was a water stain going down the front of the washer. A manufacturer’s technician came out and said it was from closing the door and allowing water to drip down. The manufacturer replaced the front of the washer.

The consumer purchased a warranty and it covered the repair.

2015: The consumer noticed mold around the bottom front rubber seal of her washer. The consumer tried numerous steps to resolve the problem. The consumer purchased cleaners (small capsules) and she has tried bleach and vinegar (separately) in the washer, but nothing corrected the issue.

There is a grey rubber seal around the door and when it is pulled back, it has mold primarily around the bottom portion of the seal. As a result, the consumer’s clothes do not smell clean and always smell as if they were only washed partially.

The consumer checked the Internet and saw that there was suit and settlement in relation to other people having the problem this similar type of problem: http://www.lgwashersettlement.com/

The consumer called [REDACTED] and she was referred to CPSC Hotline.

The consumer believes that this may present a health hazard.

My LG top loading washer never makes it through a larger load without becoming unbalanced. The tub spins unevenly causing the machine to travel; as the tub rotates it increasingly sways from side to side, banging the sides of the machine and moving across the floor.

It has not worked properly since it was purchased in 2013; it has been serviced several times without permanently resolving the problem. I saw the recall for LG top loaders manufactured earlier, and realized this is the same problem, but not being addressed.

My machine’s model is 5070CW; serial 304KWWW28F953. I am hoping this machine will also be recalled to address the same safety issues.

I never even imagined this could happen until yesterday. I had the most terrifying experience of my life yesterday. My 3 year old twin boys were upstairs playing in their room. My daughter said she could hear them screaming, so I went upstairs to check. I realized the screams were coming from the laundry room. I found both of them in the washer, it was running & the lid was locked. I hit the stop button but the lid wouldn’t unlock, same with when I turned it completely off. I finally ripped the lid open breaking the whole lock off. This could’ve ended so much worse. All I keep thinking is the what ifs.. what if she didn’t hear them, what if I didn’t make it in time.. I would no longer have my 2 babies. The older top loading Lg models have a feature where you have to press the start button a second time once you close the lid. The model I own which is only 2 years old does not. My kids must’ve hit the start button while they were climbing in, closed the lid & it started with them trapped in side. I don’t want this to happen to another parent, & the outcome not being as good as mine.

My 21 month old simply closed the washing machine door, and it broke. No front load washing machine should ever be able to break that easily. We had completed a washing machine load about 1-2 hours earlier, and the door was slightly open. Our 20 month old closed the door and managed to break the glass completely in half.

My older son and myself both were cut by the glass. Minor bleeding, but glass this heavy and sharp breaking is incredibly dangerous.

Since this model (just 2 years old), LG has re-made the door to have a plastic cover over it, implying that there was a product safety issue.

I have tried to work with them, but they have been zero help. They offered a free visit to look at replacing the door, but did not ask to see the broken glass. I have seen other incidents like this online, and it worries me further.

The inside layer of glass on my LG washing machine (model WM3360H*CA) door shattered during normal use. I was doing a load using the gentle cycle, with cold water, when I heard a loud noise coming from the machine.
