The product, in the report: 5 gallon, plastic gas can
The consumer attempted to fill this gas can and discovered a safety hazard.
The can has a white, plastic insert-shield that is fixed inside the can. When fuel is poured into the can through that shield, a foam is created near that shield and sprayed back out. The consumer said this happened with less than 2/10 of a gallon of fuel in the can.
The consumer returned the can to the dealer and he and a store rep. (name unavailable) checked some of the other cans by this manufacturer. He noticed the exact same problem with the 2 gallon can and all of their other cans on the shelf. Every can this firm made, had the exact same design. It is supposed to be a flame shield.
The consumer said that the can had an EPA # GMDCPPFCS001
The consumer used a screwdriver and long nose pliers to remove the shield from his gas can. He was then able to fill his gas can with no problem. He filled it up and brought it home.
NOTE: The caller is a retired firefighter, so he has a more thorough understanding of this matter.
