  1. First aid

Made May 25, 2014, sent to the company Jun 3, 2014, published by CPSC Jun 24, 2014

The product, in the report: Five gallon gas can --- NUMEROUS MANUFACTURES!

The “NEW” style of gas can spout (mine is on a five gallon can) it requires the user to press the spout into the item you are filling to extend the inside plunger thus releasing the gas into your lawn mower. This new style does NOT vent therefore creates a huge hazard. I went to fill my brand new riding mower and when the “Plunger” released gasoline sprayed 3-4 feet into the air all over me and the lawn mower. after cleaning up I tried it again after releasing all built up pressure and it still did the same thing. This “STYLE” of spout is on numerous manufactures cans as a matter of fact I couldn’t find one without it. this new spout is very dangerous. if the equipment you are filling is hot there is a huge fire risk and even if it is cool there is a huge chance you will get gasoline in your EYES! I DID! This is the worst design in years, there was nothing wrong with a normal spout and a vent plug. please look into this before someone is seriously injured! Thank You! The spout is red with a white plunger inside it requires the user to put the spout on the lip of the gas tank then press down to release gasoline it requires a lot of pressure to release and will probably be difficult for the elderly.
