The product, in the report: Metal gas can (with metal screen flame arrester
Filling a gas can at gas station. Mandated flame arrester in can caused gas to froth and back up out of the can WITHOUT triggering the automatic full shutoff. Gas spilled (and squirted) in a 10 foot cricle under my truck and around the pump before I could manually pull off shutoff latch. The same thing happened in my garage later that day as I transferred gas to the can using a small fuel pump ([REDACTED]). The flame arrester itself simply restricts the flow too much. I have since pulled the flame arresters from three other cans. They are an awful hazard. That is the first fule transfer accident I have had in 50 years and it was caused by a supposed safety product.

First aid Made Jun 11, 2016, sent to the company Jun 20, 2016, published by CPSC Jul 5, 2016
The product, in the report: Justrite 7220120 - Galvanized Steel, AccuFlow Type II Red Safety Can with 5/8” Flexible Spout
I was preparing to refuel my lawn mower using a Justrite, Type2, 2 Gallon Safety Can containing gasoline. The can was approximately 20 percent full and about 2 years old.
The lawn mower was cool. The safety can was in my garage, not in direct sunlight, prior to filling. Temperature in the garage was 90 F. Humidity was 60 %.
I inserted the flexible nozzle into the gas tank and squeezed the silver gas release handle. A large amount of air/ gas vapor drove the gasoline at a high velocity into the gas tank. The gasoline splashed back approximately 3 feet into my eyes, nose and mouth.
The can has been emptied and is in my possession.
The company and Consumer Reports have been notified.
