The Minnesota Department of Health conducted an environmental risk assessment to determine the source(s) of lead exposure that may have contributed to a child’s elevated blood lead level.
The family burned incense, and noted that the child might have ingested some incense residue. When Minnesota Department of Health staff had a piece of the family’s unused incense tested in a lab, it had a lead content of 382ppm.
The family reported that they had bought the incense that was tested in a store in Michigan, but also stated they had seen that brand sold in Minnesota as well.
No other potential sources of lead besides the incense were found in the child’s home.
