The product, in the report: Febreeze plug in

    Incident Date: August 2, 2026

    Incident Description:

On August 2, 2026, a Febreze Plug Scented Oil Warmer caught fire while it was plugged into a standard wall outlet inside my home. I noticed a burning smell and discovered that the plug-in had overheated, melted, and ignited. The electrical outlet and the plug-in sustained significant burn damage, with visible melting, charring, and soot around the outlet.

I unplugged the device after it was safe to do so to prevent the fire from spreading further. During the incident, I sustained a minor burn to my hand. Fortunately, the injury was slight and did not require emergency medical treatment, but the incident created a serious fire hazard and could have resulted in much more extensive property damage or injury.

I have retained the damaged Febreze Plug device and have photographs documenting the damage to both the plug-in and the electrical outlet. I am submitting this report so the incident can be investigated and to help determine whether this product poses a safety risk to other consumers.

Injuries: Minor burn to my hand.

Property Damage: Burned and melted electrical outlet, damaged outlet cover, and damage to the wall surrounding the outlet.

Current Condition of Product: Retained for inspection.

The product, in the report: febreeze scented candle UPDATED 1/8/14: The number stamped on the side of the glass is#12978843061

I had a febreeze scented candle explode on my kitchen counter which caused a fire. The counter top was burned. When the candle exploded three sharp pieces shot off thankfully onto the counter in stead of into my guests. I had three elderly ladies to my house for a lunch and we had just left the kitchen to sit down at the dining room table when the glass exploded. I tried to swat out the flame with a towel but it continued burning and spread to two pot holders which were near by. I finally used a large pot lid to smother the flames and stop the fire.My kitchen counter top was seared in a couple of spots. My insurance adjuster says that the whole laminate counter top will need to be replaced. This candle is a fire hazard . I have contacted Proctor & Gamble regarding this and hope that they will follow thru and pay for the damages.

The product, in the report: “Air Freshener”

This has happened numerous times. Each time I am exposed to Febreeze (has been sprayed in the air in house or in my office--today in my office) my throat closes, I loose my voice, my throat becomes sore, my lungs feel heavy, I feel as though I can’t breathe well/am not getting enough air, I cough profusely, and my chest feels heavy. It doesn’t matter which “scent’ (I consider this to be stank). This happens to my 30 year old son as well. This product contains many hazardous chemicals and I would hope that you can help to have this product discontinued forever in all of its forms.
