As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Airwick electronic candle, Model ED42

On 10/26/15, firefighters responded to a house fire. An AirWick electrical candle/air freshener was plugged in and operating at the time of the fire. A mattress was pushed up tight against the wall and against the electrical receptacle where the candle was plugged in. There was also a pile of pillows covering the receptacle and the plug end of the candle. See attached photos and NFIRS report for further details.

The product, in the report: Air Wick Color Changing Air Freshener. This is the link to the item as sold on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Air-Wick-Color-Changing-Scented-Indulgence/dp/B008619HLS/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1377521459&sr=1-1&keywords=Air+Wick+Candles+Changes+Color+Gently

I bought the Air Wick Color Changing air freshener which is a candle inside a frosted cup. The frosted cup changes color when the candle is lit (or when it feels warm, such as the touch of a hand). When the candle wick reached the bottom, the battery and mechanism at the bottom of the cup exploded and the wax flew all over the surrounding area (walls, picture frames, furniture, carpet, stairs, jackets hanging on the wall, toys). I found the pieces of the battery as far as 20 feet away from the candle. There were three distinct battery pieces that flew off the device to different locations. Thankfully, my children were not at home during the explosion, and no injuries were sustained. But from the look of where everything flew and the hot wax that flew on the walls this could have caused very serious burns and injuries to my children.
