The product, in the report: Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Glossy Black Spray Can
Can of Rustoleum Stop Rust Glossy black spray was stored in unfinished storage area of basement. The can exploded along side seam (see picture). When this occurred is unknown, but was found Feb 11, 2017, with paint completely dry but with residual weak odor. Because of storage site the can was not exposed to sun, heat or cold. As a result of explosion, paint droplets and spray are all around the unfinished storage area (greater than 100 sq. ft area). Many items in the basement room were covered with paint and some spray went out the open door into the finished area of the basement, including a large amount on the door and woodwork around the doorway. Attempts to clean the dried paint from the door or other surfaces with either paint thinner or acetone-containing nail polish remover were mostly unsuccessful (see photo showing smears on the door). Because of the wide spray area, many items in the storage room are irreversibly damaged or stained. Thankfully no one was around at the time.
