The product, in the report: Glidden fundamentals interior low VOac low odor paint Batch #872954202503 00195

I bought interior glidden fundamentals low VOClow odor paint for my bathroom. I live in a 3500sq ft building and painted the small bathroom in my apartment upstairs. About an hr after I had almost finished painting the entire building was filled with not paint but massive chemical smell. I opened a couple windows and knew it was not normal. I then woke up about 4hrs later to the smell even worse, I was so concerned I almost called the fire dept. My son and I have headaches and nausea. I called glidden and they told me they have not had any complaints I then called walmart where I purchased it to let them know because I think they should pull it off their shelves. Ive painted several interior rooms and have never experienced anything like this it was pure chemical, didn’t smell like paint at all. Im concerned if this is used in a small house with Lil guys it can be extremely dangerous.

The product, in the report: Glidden® Premium Interior Paint + Primer

The submitter is reporting the product for posing a health hazard. She claims the product emits a harmful fume that caused her adverse health effects.

She said the independent neighborhood painter painted her apartment on March 24-26 and shortly after she began experiencing adverse health effects. She also said there was a strong chemical odor in the apartment that she believes was due to the paint or tint in the paint. Her symptoms included headaches, nausea, fatigue, a chemical taste in her mouth and pain in her nostrils.

She believes the tinted paint emits a harmful fume. She said the health symptoms and fumes did not diminish until 4 months later when she repainted her apartment.

She contacted the firm (800-454-3336) and reported her concerns sometime on April 15, 2019 (Case # [REDACTED]). The firm Reps claimed the paint had nothing harmful. She spoke with Senior Tech Service Rep., [REDACTED], who took the information and said he would get back to her but he didn’t. She then called back and spoke with [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] provided instructions for airing out the apartment then said she would look into the matter and get back to her but she didn’t.

She also contacted the retailer both Home Depot and Glidden paint and reported the concerns but they referred her to the firm.

She has been seeking treatment with her allergist, her cardiologist and primary care. She said she is waiting to hear about her blood work and whether her liver was affected by the fumes. My liver was not affected however I do not know if recent dx of heart arythemia is related to stress due to this issue

The product, in the report: Gilde Indoor Latex Ceiling paint Model #: GCN 3070

Painted my dining room ceiling with Glidden indoor latex ceiling paint. That very evening my home smelled so strongly like chemicals that I became ill. The next day I rented an industrial sized exhaust fan and ran it for two days. This did nothing to rid my home of the odor or help with my health issues. At this point my respiratory track was burning, I had a metallic taste in my mouth, a headache and nausea. After 2 more days I enclosed the room with heavy plastic to contain the smell while continuing to leave windows open (in freezing cold temperatures). PPG Industries, the company that owns Glidden paint, will not accept any responsibility for this problem. They claim to have tested their batch of paint with no issues. They claim not to have any other reports of issues with this paint. they also refused to test the paint in my can or to test the air quality in my home. They recommended covering their paint with BIN primer. This did nothing to remove the strong odor. After 2 weeks of illness we had to hire a contractor to remove our ceiling and replace it. PPG wants to send me a “good will” offer of $250 for a signed waiver saying that I will not file any legal claims against them for this problem. I have read of hundreds and hundreds of people who have experienced the exact same situation as me with various brands of paints and nothing is being done to protect consumers. I have spent over $800 to fix a problem that was caused by 1 can of paint. My biggest concern is what this has done to my health.
