  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Dec 30, 2024, sent to the company Jan 8, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 24, 2025

The product, in the report: This is a household cleaner called LA’s Totally Awesome which I’ve seen it sold in larger plastic jugs and in 24 oz. spray bottles such as the one I was using. The containers are clear, with writing in red; the product itself is yellow.

I suffered a hallucinogenic reaction to a common cleaning product called LA’s Totally Awesome, produced in Buena Park, CA, by Awesome Products, Inc. This is a powerful and effective cleaner, but I have found its fumes rather noxious in the past. I was using the product to clean my kitchen floor and was in close contact with the fumes for about fifteen minutes when I suddenly realized that I was hallucinating; it was as if I was in my kitchen and in a dreamworld at the same time. I don’t recall now what I was dreaming except that there was conflict and worry -- a feverish sort of dream. I immediately got out of the kitchen, opened windows, eventually went outside for fresh air. I remained in a dizzy and semi-hallucinatory state for some time, and it was about 90 minutes before I fully returned to my right mind. Nothing else in the environment or in my physical state could have caused this reaction. I have never experienced a remotely similar response to a cleaning product or any other substance. I can’t say whether this product just happens to affect me in this way or if it has the potential to affect many others. It is widely sold in dollar stores and so may be causing harm to less affluent consumers, who, I understand, are less likely to file complaints. Incidentally, the cleaner’s label warns against eye contact and advises keeping the product out of children’s hands but does not suggest use in ventilated areas only or give any sort of warning about the reaction I experienced. I urge you to investigate.

The product, in the report: LA’s Totally Awesome Oxygen Orange (cleaner). 32 fl. oz. spray container

LA’s Totally Awesome Oxygen Orange. I believe this product to be extremely hazardous to the human and pet respiratory tract. It causes extreme burning of the throat and chest. It is impossible not to inhale some of the fumes while using. I believe it could cause hospitialization of someone with compromised respiratory function. I think this product should be completely banned from the consumer market.
