  1. No one hurt

Made Dec 22, 2011, sent to the company Jan 23, 2012, published by CPSC Feb 6, 2012

The product, in the report: Fabric Softner Dryer Sheet

On 12/21/2011, the consumer placed her clean clothes in the clothes dryer. She opened a box of fabric softener dryer sheets, tore one sheet in half, and placed that half-sheet in the dryer with her clothes. She set the dryer to the normal cycle. The consumer left the laundry room, which is located approx. 10’ from a bedroom and went into another part of her house.

Later that evening, the consumer was preparing to go to bed, when she noticed an odor similar to acetone (nail polish remover) in her home. The consumer said that no one in her home had used any finger nail materials that day. The consumer started to feel sick, her throat became irritated and she had difficulty breathing.

The consumer left her bathroom and began searching for the cause of the chemical odor in her home. When she passed the laundry room, the odor was stronger and she found out that the chemical odor was coming from the dry sheets in the box. The consumer said that her clothes were fine and did not have a chemical odor to them.

The consumer wrapped the remaining fabric softener dry sheets box in a plastic bag and took it out of the house.
