Hurt, care not known Made Oct 9, 2026, sent to the company Oct 16, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 30, 2026
The product, in the report: Tide power pods febrile odor eliminators
I recently bought and used tide pods to wash some laundry. My 10 year old son woke the following morning with hives all over him. His face and hands were swollen. This resulted in a doctor visit. The doctor informed us that many people are allergic to tide. We rewashed his bed sheets and clothes but the following the day he still broke out in hives again. Tide is so strong I am having to rewash everything 3 and 4 times. He has missed school due to the severity of his hives and cries bc he is so uncomfortable.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Feb 11, 2026, sent to the company Feb 17, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 3, 2026
The product, in the report: Tide Power Pods Oxi Boost Laundry Detergent 45 XL, 1.89 kg (4.12LB) 66 oz
I washed a load of clothing with Tide detergent on 11/25/25.
I developed blisters on my palms after folding the clothes.
The next day, Thanksgiving, the allergic reaction spread all over my body and became an emergency. I had to leave my family Thanksgiving dinner due to this.
I had to visit a doctor & get an injection & then meds to take over the next week.
I reported this to Tide and asked for reimbursement of my expenses (less than $100). I answered many, many questions by phone.
Tide sent me an email after that I answered all the same questions over again via their online portal. They requested years of private medical information including surgeries and prescriptions, They also required me to upload electronic copies of everything, which I did. I sent them multiple photos of severe allergic reaction over most of my body. I do not even have photos of the reaction when it was at it’s worst because I was starting to develop swelling on my face and was trying to contact emergency physicians who were open on a holiday. So I took no more photos. I included only two photos with this report but the rash was everywhere and it got worse after these photos were taken. I even had swelling of eyes and lips.
After all of that, Tide then sent me a letter through US mail requesting I fill out the SAME long, detailed paper forms and same detailed, extensive medical history. They requested paper copies of everything. I sent all of that back to them by US Mail.
On 1/22/26, I received a letter from Tide claiming I had not sent them all the paperwork they needed. It was signed with only a first name ([REDACTED]) and there was no phone number to reach them.
At this point I feel that they are giving me the runaround and not operating in good faith. I filed a complaint with the [REDACTED] today asking them to have someone at Tide contact me to see why Tide keeps dragging out this process instead of resolving my complaint.

The product, in the report: Tide Free & Clear - Advanced Care - Size 154 Fl Oz
I wan to report an allergic reaction to the new formulation of Tide Free. My reaction is systemic reaction resulting in drop in blood pressure (going on three days straight) . I understand, after research, that Benzisothiazolinone has been added. I was unaware of this change and took days to figure out where my reaction came from. The bottle of my new detergent didn’t say “new formula”. I started using the product about two weeks ago and started noticing my symptoms about 4 days ago. I am reporting because I was unaware that the formula had changed. I am a sensitive individual and would have researched the added preservative.

While using Tide Simply Liquid Laundry Detergent, I noticed a burning sensation on my hands when I was pouring the detergent. First aid Made Jan 22, 2024, sent to the company Jan 25, 2024, published by CPSC Feb 8, 2024
The product, in the report: Tide Pods Laundry Detergent. Tide Pod. Ultra concentrated clothes washing detergent soap.
Used Tide Pods concentrated laundry detergent: three (3) pods for one (1) extra large load of laundry per package instructions. Part of a pod didn’t fully dissolve and wound up in a pair of my boxer briefs underwear, including bits of the elastic dissolvable enclosure that contains the liquid detergent and some of the liquid detergent itself. I didn’t notice the detergent and wore said underwear for about two hours before bed without experiencing any side effects, then went to bed for 7-8hr. When I woke up I noticed a sensation like I had been cut on my upper inner right thigh and two spots on my scrotum. Upon investigation I found painful, lightly weepy (like light sweat almost), red, swollen, inflamed rashes on my thigh and scrotum. Chemical burns as opposed to rash or scrape. I flushed with warm water in the shower for 10min then applied 1% hydrocortisone steroid cream per cdc or poison control recommendation (don’t remember). 10hr post-shower and one reapplication of steroid cream painful rash persists but does not appear to be getting worse, no blistering or open sores but still very slightly weepy. 24hr post shower wound site is healing, not getting worse, and no longer weeping.

No incident, no one hurt Made Apr 26, 2023, sent to the company May 26, 2023, published by CPSC Jun 21, 2023
The product, in the report: Tide HE laundry detergent
I am a 47 year old mother of two teenage sons, and I have been doing laundry for close to 30 years since being shown by my mother. For much of that time, I used the old fashioned top load agitator machines, and I was always in the habit of using a full capful of laundry detergent for each large load (I guess it turns out that we have been heavy-handed when adding detergent).
About 8-9 years ago, my husband and I purchased a new [REDACTED] washer without the agitator. The instruction manual was quite vague, but I didn’t think anything of it at the time, and I continued to follow my same laundry routine.
I didn’t think to read the back of the detergent bottles all these years because their overall appearance never changed...I did The laundry as I always had done out of habit, unaware that I was using too much detergent. The cap sizes never changed, either. Why are they still so large? Why are detergents being concentrated (never realized before) without warning customers?
I became extremely worried a few months ago when I read an article that Tide would be banned in certain states due to presence of carcinogens in its detergent? What? I had been using it for years...I thought laundry detergent was safe...it was recommended by [REDACTED] to use in their washers.
It is then that I realized that the default cycle on the [REDACTED] machine I had for the last 8-9 years only did a single 1-2 minute rinse spray. Even if I hadn’t used so much detergent all these years, I still don’t know how it could rinse all the clothes properly. Ironically, all these years, my family and I never noticed. Our clothes were spun dry so well that I never saw residue, and I think we got used to the strong detergent smell. Of course, though, as I recently started hand rinsing some of our clothing, I noticed all the detergent built up in the water.
It scares me beyond belief that my sons have been wearing chemically laden clothing since they were little. My husband has a background in biochemistry and tells me not too worry since my family never had any acute reactions, but I am terrified to hear that laundry detergent could have potential carcinogens. What if there are long-term health effects from years of wearing clothes with laundry detergent build-up? I have actually reached out to [REDACTED] and Tide about my concerns and waiting to hear back from [REDACTED]. I also wanted to reach out to an organization about this matter because I think laundry detergent use, especially in HE machines needs to be “regulated”. The instructions on bottles and machines are vague. What exactly defines a large load of laundry? It’s really more about the water amount than the laundry size, isn’t it? Why is it that washing machine manufacturers do not warn customers that they need to use so much less detergent in these high efficiency machines? Precise instructions and warnings are desperately needed. There should be clearly labeled warnings and detailed instructions from both the detergent and washer manufacturers on the amount of detergent to use based on the ratio of water per make and model of machine. There is too much of a discrepancy right now.
I know this may not seem like a big deal, but I’m sure many consumers are using too much laundry detergent. It’s bad enough to be sending excess detergent down the drain (not to mention the $), but what about potential safety issues? The date below is an estimation of when I finally became aware of the fact that I was using too much laundry detergent for the past 8-9 years.
I believe that laundry detergent manufacturers should be required to change their bottles and especially cap sizes...they should not be so big because I think it “encourages” consumers to overpour. The caps also should have clearly labeled measuring marks (horizontal around cap in a different color) so that consumers can actually see them. Also, HE washers should have warnings on their machines to inform customers to use a minimal amount of detergent (especially for those of us who had been using traditional top-loads). Furthermore, I think both washer and detergent manufacturers need to provide specific instructions on the dose of detergent to use per amount of water in machine (not just a subjective load size). There needs to be a particular dilution ratio, and that should be written in the consumer manual of the washer...or better yet, on the machine, in addition to the detergent bottles. Thank you.

No one hurt Made Oct 11, 2019, sent to the company Nov 5, 2019, published by CPSC Nov 27, 2019
The product, in the report: Tide original he liquid
Used Tide Original HE liquid detergent in my washer as I have for years. Noticed a strong perfume smell. My daughter and I both got headaches. Finally figured out it was the detergent. Nothing on the container notes that formulation has changed. Contacted the company which noted they changed the scent earlier this year. Unsafe to market this as “ original”, as it is obviously not original. Others may develop more severe allergic reactions than us. Company admits they changed the scent. They need to change the packaging to reflect this change.

Hurt, care not known Made May 30, 2019, sent to the company Jun 21, 2019, published by CPSC Jul 9, 2019
The product, in the report: Tide Original Scent Laundry Detergent
Over the past 5 days my house has had a nasty perfume smell in it and I have had an allergic reaction along with a migraine from it. It took me a few days to figure out the cause of the sudden stench, but it turns out the cause is my laundry detergent. I have been using Tide Original scent laundry detergent for as long as I can remember. 5 days ago I used a new container and I checked the packaging several times, but there were no indications on the package that would lead me to believe that it was the cause, so I kept using it and examined every other possibility for the cause.
I finally figured out that it was indeed the Tide by going and buying a package from a different store and trying it. I assumed they had a glitch in their packaging process.
I just got off the phone with the Tide consumer help line and the woman who helped me informed me that they “updated” the scent in February of 2019 to make it “more floral” but did not do ANYTHING to the package labeling to warn consumers.
I am extremely sensitive to smells and fragrances and this change P&G decided to make has made my home a toxic environment. They have refunded my money, but that is going to take care of the least of my worries.
Their suggestion for eliminating the smell was to use their washer cleaner and after checking the ingredients the product also has perfume in it.
I am blown away by the fact that a company such as P&G could consider the decision of changing the product without changing the package, forget actually doing it.
It was irresponsible, negligent and has directly caused my home to become toxic to me.

The product, in the report: Tide detergent pods
Submitter believes that she developed hives as a result of using this product. Submitter has had the problem for the last 3 months and did not know what the reason was until she did a online search for “Tide Pods hives” and saw a lot of results showing people having the same problem as her. Submitter says that the package indicates you can use up to three pods during one load but it does not indicate how much water to use when using more than one pod.
Submitter had to visit a dermatologist who informed her to take [REDACTED] for the issue.
*4/18/19 contacted the manufacturer and they offered a $33 reimbursement. The firm indicated that they have had other complaints about the products but the complaint number are not in the thousands.

The product, in the report: Tide Pods , Spring Meadow, Package of 38 Pods.
Tide Pod was used for laundering clothes. The Pod did not dissolve completely. After bathing I put on underwear washed with the Pod. I was unaware that part of the undissolved plastic was attached to my underwear. After a couple of hours I noticed that skin on my scrotum area that was in contact with the plastic was almost dissolved, extremely raw, near bleeding. I contacted Proctor and Gamble and explained the problem. I also went to a medical facility today . I have no interest in suing P&G and informed them of that, but the product is dangerous and needs to be addressed. I took a picture and also am not washing the underwear as the plastic is still attached. The plastic has to contain some very dangerous material, even after washing and drying the clothes. I greatly fear what this can and may be doing do to others, especially children. I wander how many parents have children being affected and have no idea as to what is causing it. We have been Tide users for probably 40 plus years but only a few weeks ago started using the Pods.

The product, in the report: Proctor & Gamble Tide Laundry detergent 5.91L(1.56 US GAL) 200 FL OZ
My concern is with the 200 fluid ounce container used by Proctor & Gamble for their TIDE product. The container is designed to lay on its side with the valve pointing down allowing the consumer to fill a measuring cup with the fluid. The previous design of this package was “FLAT” on the side that was intended to be facing down. The new design has a contoured shape on the designated down side. The problem is that the contour forces the consumer to position the container further out over the shelf in order to access the dispenser. This location is dangerous because the contour acts like a cam and actually moves the 200 ounce container out far enough to fall from the shelf. This condition happened to me twice before I understood the problem. Luckily it missed me but its only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

The product, in the report: Tide pod laudry soap packet We have the Tide pod that did not dissolve on her blouse. I don’t have the exact packet the pod came in as I gave my daughter several as she went to college. The original package the pods came in, we do not have. We have the blosue that has the undissolved pod in the blouse
My daughter received a chemical burn on her back under her right shoulder from a Tide pod that did not dissolve and was on her blouse. We have the blouse, pictures and medical documentation. She went to the ER and dermatologist. The dermatologist said she will have scarring from the chemical burn. After the pain of the burn subsided the wound is Improving. The hyper pigmentation will be the concern. How bad will the scarring be. The Tide pod was used In her wash load. She had the blouse on when her work manager said there was something on her blouse. She tried getting it off by putting a damp towel on the spot. The next day, my daughter had a large red spot that grew larger the following day. We have pictures. When she went back to work, the manager said it was !Where the Tide pod was on the blouse that they couldn’t get out. My daughter’s work sent her home and said she should go straight to ER. She did and was treated for a chemical burn. She was instructed to see her primary provider If the burn continued to spread. It did. Luckily, we had a dermatologist yearly appointment already scheduled 2 days after the ER visit. The dermatologist gave her a prescription of silver sulfadiazine 1% cream and we were told to keep it covered. This product should not be on the market when it doesn’t dissolve properly and causes the severe chemical burn and scarring of the skin!

The product, in the report: Tide 3 in 1 Pods Spring Meadow scent 81 PAC container on the bottom of the tub: 610613160757156
On Sunday, September 25, 2016 I did my laundry using Tide Pods. Two pods were stuck together. As I have done many times in the past, I once again attempted to pull the pods apart rather than placing both in the wash or throwing them away. As I did this, one of the pods burst open, spraying a stream of the liquid detergent up my shirt. I took the shirt off, set it aside, and put it back on again about twelve hours later. It smelled good, and since it was dry I decided to wear it. I woke up several times in the night, noticing a pain/burning on my upper right hand chest and shoulder. I was very drowsy and fell back asleep until about 4 am when the pain/burning was too great to continue to ignore. When I check myself in the bathroom I noticed that there was a very large red mark where the pain was. That day, September 26, I went to the local walk-in clinic and told them I had a burn. There I was told it was a chemical burn and was sent to the Emergency Room where I was treated for a second-degree burn that took about 10 days to heal.

The product, in the report: Laundry detergent in small packets
My partner and I began using Tide Pods Detergent when we moved to our new house in May. We both developed a nasty case of contact dermatitis which required medical treatment. After eliminating every other possibility and discussion with our physician, we determined that either residue left in the laundered clothing and bedding, or some ingredient in Tide Pods has caused the dermatitis.
We also noted that Tide Pods plastic packaging is leaving a buildup of some sort of plastic residue on the drainage system of our washer.
This product needs to be investigated.
