The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. First aid

Made Apr 17, 2024, sent to the company Apr 19, 2024, published by CPSC May 3, 2024

The product, in the report: Purex Natural Elements 4 in 1, Linen & Lilies scent, dye-free, 150 fl oz size green bottle.

Increasing skin reactions to Purex Natural Elements Linen & Lilies Liquid Laundry Detergent (Dye free), 150fl oz size. Whole family affected (two adults, two children) which started off with itching, breakouts and worsening with continued use to rashes, welts, and significant discomfort. This is a product I’ve used exclusively for almost 2 years. Always purchased from local Target store. The last two bottles have caused this issue. The bottles were purchased between Dec-March, and used during that time frame. We have since switched to another product. Symptoms lessened for 2/4 with immediate stoppage of use, and improving for the other 2/4 (taking longer to heal).

The product, in the report: Purex Natural Elements Laundry Detergent - Linen & Lilies 75oz

I decided to try a new detergent since it was on sale. I have never had an allergic reaction to any detergent in my life but after wearing clothes that were laundered in this product my skin turned into a red rashy hive mess.

The product, in the report: Purex Detergent Natural Elements Linen and Lillies 75 fluid ounces made by The Dial Corporation, a Henkel Company, Scottsdale Arizona 85255

I purchased the usual Purex Laundry Detergent from Walmart in Tallman-Suffern, New York, using it many times. I was diagnosed as suffering from Xerosis Cutis after the usages, which went away after I discontinued using the laundry detergent. The laundry detergent mentioned herein smells different from what it’s normal scent is. I had to rinse my clothes vigorously many times with cold water. Note that I still have in my bedroom the suspicious detergent bottle.

The product, in the report: Purex natural elements linen and lilies dirt lift

My wife does our laundry, I’m the cook. I got dressed as normal. Went to work was so itchy the entire day . So when I got home I went and got in the bath. when I took off my shirt I was broken out. I Iniatially thought I was getting the shingles. I had already had the chicken pox all though that what it appeared to be. It wasn’t till 5 days later did we figure out what it was. I’m not a sickly person. I have never had a allergic reaction of any kind. What is so baffling is the container is all natural elements. Sooooo Misleading. Don’t want this happen to anyone else. I’m still miserable! Not happy at all purex Natural Elements. I’m reporting it because I saw online where I’m not the only one. I want to save someone from this misery. Not to mention o was supposed to get screened medically for entrance in the U.S. Navy guess who could t go because of this stupid product. Thanks Purex. Thanks, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: plastic “bubble” packs of concentrated laundry detergent

A 17 mo old child was found by mother after having bitten into a Purex ulra pack of laundry detergent. Soon became ill with vomiting, drowsiness and respiratory distress. At a community hospital, he was nearly unresponisve with severe respiratory distress and required emergency endotracheal intubation, and transfer to our children’s hospital ICU. Recovered markedly over 24 hrs, but the rapid onset of severe depressed level of consciousness and respiratory distress is disinctly unusual after laundry product ingestion. And this form of packaging seems to be not very child resistant, and very attractive and accessible. As a pediatric toxicologist and assoc director of the Phila area posion control center, i described his case on our list serve of US PCCs, and have discovered 3 or 4 other US cases and 1 Canadian case in past 2 weeks. A physician from the Milan, Italy PCC wrote in to say that more than 500 cases have occurred in Italy over past year since the product was introduced ( introduction was only ~ 2mos ago in the US, apparently), and they have embarked on a large public health and media campaign to reduce further pediatric exposures.
