How badly anyone was hurt

  • No one hurt 1 CPSC: Incident, No Injury

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 23, 2020, sent to the company Aug 11, 2020, published by CPSC Aug 25, 2020

The product, in the report: Rotfix SystemThree Rotfix is a two-component liquid epoxy used to harden rotted wood for repairs.

Product name: SystemThree Rotfix. Manufacturer: SystemThree (Lacy, WA 98503) This is a two-part, liquid epoxy compound meant to strengthen rotted wood.

Issues: (1) Incomplete safety instructions: After mixing the two liquids in the proportions according to the instructions, the product gets very hot and emits smoke after 15 minutes. It partially melted and cracked the plastic container I used to mix the two components. I had to move the container to an outside location on concrete away from my house. The product instructions say nothing about this behavior or warnings about toxic vapors or smoke.

The company also does not provide any warnings about the type of container suitable for mixing this product. A plastic paint mixing cup I used partially melted due to the heat from the product.

    (2) Poor customer support: The company offers very limited product support. I tried using a phone number listed on a brochure (800-333-5514), and given the choice between a person presenting a hard-sell sales pitch for a senior citizen safety monitor (option 1) or a disconnected phone call (option 2). I tried contacting them thru their website systemthree.com, and received a response about a half-hour later. This is while I’m dealing with a very hot, fuming substance about which I wasn’t warned.
