The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Bauer 4 inch wood carving disc. It is sold by Harbor Freight. Product number 2061A-C414 on upper right of package. The reason that this product is so hazardous is that the Owner’s Manual and Safety instructions are inadequate. They do not give proper instructions regarding use. The product works great when used one way, but can be deadly when used another way. Their instructions are in 6 point font (way too small!) and do not use color or symbols as recommended by ANSI Z535.6. Their instructions say one thing, but their online add for the product says another. This type of product has already been banned in the U.K. Search “dangerous chainsaw carving discs” on [REDACTED] and see what happens when the product is accidently used incorrectly. I have never seen so many comments about a product being so dangerous. The crazy thing is...its totally fine when used a certain way, but will kick back and cut when used another. The owner’s manual that comes with the Habor Freight angle grinders even warns users “not to attach wood carving discs as they often kickback”.

Severe lacerations to hands, arms, torso, face, and neck. Product is the Bauer Wood Carving Disc...essentially a chainsaw wrapped around a 4-inch diameter disc...attached to an angle grinder. I am a safety and human factors expert who is familiar with one case...and know of multiple others. Injuries occur when the carving disc is inadvertently pushed into the wood during carving, the angle grinder kicks back, and the chainsaw teeth can impact the user.
