The product, in the report: 10” Sliding Miter Saw
The consumer stated that his sliding miter saw possesses a smoke hazard as well as a laceration hazard. The unit is powered by electricity. The consumer stated that the product is almost the exact same one as the ones cited in recall release 08-100. The consumer was using the saw yesterday when he started the trigger to power the saw and found that when he released the trigger the saw continued to run. By design, the saw should stop as soon as the trigger is released.
The consumer stated that the products fault caused the saw’s handle switch to fail, causing the saw to smoke, spark and disabled the safety brake. The consumer stated that the product emitted an electrical odor of burning. The smoking ceased when the consumer unplugged the unit. A few minutes later, the consumer plugged the saw back in and the saw operated again by itself; without the consumer with his finger on the trigger. The consumer stated that he was unharmed by the product and it did not damage his home.
The consumer also stated that the product appears to be in condition and did not sustain any external damage. The consumer did not call the fire department after the incident in reference to the product smoking. The consumer has not called the retailer and has not been able to contact the firm.
