The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Battery operated pole saw - DeWalt DCPS620M1

I had just purchased (8/18/25 a DeWalt DCPS620 Pole saw and was using it for the first time (same day of purchase) when the “Center Extension Pole” came apart. This 4 foot extension to this saw extends it capability and is useful.....however, I believe it was improperly designed and/or assembled. The plactic connector at the bottom of the extension became detatched during use creating a VERY hazardous situation. I have photos of what the issue is and have reported this to DeWalt (no answer as of today). The connector is connected to the aluminum rod by 2 rivets. Looking at the rod and the connector, it appears as though the rivet holes don’t line up with the holes in the aluminum rod. The rivets were never inserted thru the holes in the rod and were just resting on the surface. As I was using the item, a very minor pull in the down direction (as one will do when using a chainsaw) detached the connector from the pole.

The product, in the report: Dewalt 12 inch Compound Miter Saw - DWS779

Dewalt DWS779 12 inch compound miter saw blade guide was ejected off rear of saw while using. Part liberated from saw bounced in the vicinity and landed on floor near saw. This is identical to existing recall on this product 22-196. My saw falls slightly outside of the prescribed date range. 2022 13-CJ. The failure mode is identical to that described in the recall. Dewalt provided the new part after calling them. It was mailed to me. Despite the unit being outside the date range and the green dot adjacent to the serial number indicating the saw was ok to use with the replacement part, the saw had the recall part installed. The new replacement part from Dewalt does NOT match the failed part that was ejected. The date range needs to be expanded.

The product, in the report: Dewalt sliding miter saw model DWS779 type 22

Son was using my Dewalt DWS779 Type 22 miter saw to build a ramp on 07/16/2023. A piece of wood got betwween the lower guard and the blade shattering the lower guard and bending the arm that attaches it to the saw. While I know that the saw was recalled for a different problem, this is the first time that I know of this problem. My problem is that Dewalt not only discontinued manufature of this model, but they also dicontinued the manufacturing of ALL replaement parts. I have contacted Dewalt direct and have been ignored. I am now stuck with a $500 saw that is unsafe to use yet is only two years old. All that I want is to be able to get my saw repaired so that I can safely use it.

The product, in the report: DEWALT DWS779 15 Amp Corded 12 in. Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

While using a Dewalt miter saw (model DWS779), the plastic rear blade guard failed and shattered against the blade, causing the blade to jump and land on the metal auxiliary fence, causing metal fragments to be thrown onto myself. It also significantly damaged the blade and fence.

While investigating, I found the saw had been recalled in 2022 in order to replace the plastic rear blade guard with a metal one.

I purchased the saw in January of 2023, meaning The Home Depot sold me a recalled saw without the necessary fix in place. This saw was ordered online through HomeDepot.com

The product, in the report: Dewalt brushless 120v max (DHS790) corded/cordless sliding compound miter saw

While using a 60 volt dewalt flex volt DHS790 sliding bevel miter saw the saw tripped the electrical breaker while being used with the optional ac converter. When the saw continued to kick the breaker I attempted to use the saw with the two 60 volt lithium batteries to check if it was the converter which failed. The tool started to throw significant sparks and smoke started pouring out of the motor housing. I removed the baterries immediately. The sparks where enough to have started a fire if the unit was not set up outside in open air.

The product, in the report: Dewalt Compound Miter Saw, ModelDW705, Type 6 12” Serial 39056

Having just completed a cut with a compound miter saw, moving my hand down toward the piece of wood, my hand was struck by a flying object, causing a laceration to the lower thumb of my right hand. After receiving medical attention, I inspected the saw and discovered the retainer collar that holds the guard had separated and apparently was caught up by the rotating saw blade accelerating the collar through the plastic guard and striking my hand.

The product, in the report: Dewealt DW714 compound saw

The product I would like to report is a Dewalt compound saw model # DW715. We purchased the saw on 01/02/14. It was purchased at Lowes in Farmington, NM. We used it a few times for cutting varies different material. One of our skilled employees changed the saw blade to cut aluminum pipe and proceeded to cut the pipe. At this time the saw kicked back and almost removed his hand. Immediately the saw was unplugged and removed to examine what had happened. Upon inspection it was noted that the Fence was of about 1/16th of an inch. Indicating this was a manufacturing defect. I contacted Lowes and Dewalt. Lowes agreed to replace the saw, and to not resell the defective saw. Dewalt blamed it on user error, but agreed to retrieve it from the store. (of which I will never know what the outcome was.) I feel this needs to be reviewed by someone with some power to ensure a tragedy doesn’t occur some where.Thank you for your time.

The product, in the report: 4 1/2 “’ blade battery operated cut-off saw

09/15/2012 The consumer stated that her husband was inserting an 18 volt rechargeable battery into the saw. The blade started moving with the switch in the off position. The consumer stated that her husband took the battery out and reinserted it. The same thing happened again. This happens with or without the blade. The consumer stated that there was not an injury.

On 09/16/2012 The manufacturer was contacted to secure a switch assembly. The consumer was advised that the product is discontinued and the switch is not available. The manufacturer recommended that the product not be used.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM CONSUMER:

On 9-26-12 my husband again called DeWalt and this time got a satisfactory response from a representative, [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] made an “incident report”,# [REDACTED], and told my husband [REDACTED], to send the cut off saw to DeWalt at [REDACTED], sent postage paid and as soon as he received it he would send [REDACTED], a new DC411KA cut off saw, with a battery and cloth bag. I told him I still planned to send this report so others who own the same model saw would be warned of the possible danger from this tool running it’s blade despite the tool being turned off. He said to go ahead and do that but he wanted the tool back and he would replace it with the DC411KA, their newest tool like our DC410. We will be satisfied with this response for [REDACTED], but still concerned for other who have this tool and might have it start going while it is turned off. There was no prior warning of it acting up before this. [REDACTED] 9/26/12
