The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: greenwoodpropane torch with push button igniter from harbor freight

My wife was using a greenwoodpropane torch with push button igniter attached to a 5 gal propane tank. When she pulled the trigger the valve was blown out of the handle. This allowed propane to escape which was ignited. Her coat caught fire and her hair was singed.

It appears the part which holds the valve in place is missing half the threads. I have attached a photo which shows the faulty valve with 1 thread. Compared to a similar tool which has 3 threads.

The product, in the report: Greenwood propane torche

The hose blew off while the torch was in use. I had a flash from the hose blowing past the burning torch end. I was very lucky the hose was almost empty and the propane tank internal safety valve closed the output gas. I wet back to Harbor Freight with receipt and told them about the problem. It had been 39 days since I purchased the torch and past the 30 day limit for returns or refunds. The manager said there was nothing he could do about it having been so long even though it was the first time I used the torch. It had been in use about 15 minutes when it failed. I think I have thrown it out but may still have it in the barn. I have limited my purchases from Harbor Freight to only items that can not cause a hazardous condition, like sand paper.
