The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Hurt, care not known

Made Jul 17, 2024, sent to the company Aug 12, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 26, 2024

The product, in the report: Power Washer

The consumer indicates that her son gifted her the pressure washer and she was using it for the first time. Immediately after she started using it, the consumer received an electric shock and she could feel a current on her feet as she stood in water.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative she spoke to informed her that there was nothing they could do as she did not have a receipt or registration.

The consumer plans on keeping her pressure washer for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Sun Joe power washer model SapX 3001

Using a sun Joe power washer the pressure became weak. I called the manufacturer for assistance and was advised to change the tip on the wand. When changing the tip I received a shock. I advised the manufacturer of this and was told they would handle it internally although I suggested they should consider a recall. The manufacturer did offer me 20% off a new machine.

The product, in the report: SunJoe Electric Pressure Washer Model SPX4000

On page 14 (under “Troubleshooting”) of the Operators Manual for the SunJoe SPX4000 Electric Pressure Washer, it recommends that if a ‘fuse’ blows when using this device, the owner should replace the ‘fuse’ with one of a higher amp rating. If an owner does this it could easily result in overheating of the electrical wiring due to the new ‘fuse’ allowing more current to pass than the wiring was originally designed for. With enough of a current draw, this could create a fire at some point in the circuit, causing severe damage or even a life threatening situation. While there has been no incident due to this to my knowledge, I believe this recommendation could be quite dangerous for anyone to follow. Thank you.
