The product, in the report: We purchased the PetraTools HD4000 four-gallon battery operated sprayer. This product is sold by multiple resellers including [REDACTED] and Amazon. See: https://petratools.com/product/petra-hd4000-battery-powered-backpack-sprayer

We purchased the PetraTools HD4000 four-gallon battery operated sprayer. This product is sold by multiple resellers including {REDACTED] Amazon [REDACTED]

This sprayer has an internal 12-volt battery that requires occasionally charged. The sprayer comes with a proprietary A/C to DC charger that is to be used to charge the sprayer. This charger is make in China and does not conform to the US electrical code because of the installation of an A/C plug on the DC side of the charger.

The problem is that the electrical receptacle on the sprayer is a 3-pin Shroud female (IEC C13) AC receptacle. This AC receptacle allows for the insertion of AC plugs into this receptacle that is ONLY designed to have DC power.

After several months of non-use, we used a standard AC cord with this sprayer receptacle. This resulted in overheating and melting of internal circuitry and posed a fire hazard but luckily the circuit breaker tripped prior to starting a fire.

This is a safety problem and could result in significant damage, fire, injury or death. This product should be recalled and redesigned to comply with the US electric code and safety requirement.
