The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 28, 2012, sent to the company Aug 9, 2012, published by CPSC Aug 30, 2012

The product, in the report: Ortho Home Defense Max Insect Killer, For Indoor/Perimeter, up to 12 month control. 1.33Gallon/5Liter bottle with handheld sprayer.

Product was Ortho Home Defense Max Insect Killer, in the 1.33Gal/5L bottle, with a hand held sprayer. Bar code was 7154901974, and the printed (lot number?) was I11343/FI/3/2. Purchased 1-2 months ago at Lowes in Augusta, GA. Bottle was appx. 2/3rds used at time of incident.

The hand held sprayer wand has a large, spring loaded plunger, which is drawn back to build pressure for continuous spraying. While using the sprayer, I drew back the plunger, and the red plastic hand piece split/burst open, resulting in a few ounces of the product spilling out. In addition, the spring inside the sprayer released suddenly, causing some of the pesticide to splatter on me and the surrounding area.
