I am the Fire Marshal in High Point NC. We have responded to two separate incidents in the same furniture showroom involving battery packs and chargers. In both cases the batteries and charges melted/ignited while charging. The showroom had purchased the battery packs and chargers to power their recliners for demonstration and are not part of their product.
I have photos of the first incident and I have the damaged batteries/chargers from the second incident along with an exemplar of each of the units that the showroom provided.
We have a concern for the continued use of these batteries/chargers and are unaware of where they may possibly be in use. Both incidents were contained due to the location of the units near limited combustibles and or on the concrete floor away from combustibles. If these incidents had occurred in a residential setting or in close proximity to combustible material there is the potential for a significant fire.
