The product, in the report: Upgraded 6.0Ah V8 SV10 Battery 215681 Replacement Compatible with [REDACTED] Handheld Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Li-ion 967834 05 Battery
I purchased a replacement battery for my [REDACTED] vacuum from Amazon. The description is as follows: Upgraded 6.0Ah V8 SV10 Battery 215681 Replacement Compatible with [REDACTED] Handheld Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Li-ion 967834 05 Battery. Today I attempted to use the vacuum with a charged battery. It immediately began to smoke, whereupon I took it outside and it burst into very hot flames. If this had happened when we weren’t home or even asleep, there could have been catastrophic loss or even death with a house fire. I contacted Amazon, and they said they would “check it out” and if they found other instances, they would pull it off the market; while expressing concern over the danger, the Amazon rep hung up on me. I looked at the customer ratings, and there are at least 5 other instances reported of similar fires with this battery, as far back as October, 2022. Amazon has known of this issue and not taken action. The product is a danger and Amazon faces neither apparent liability for the problem nor appears to track and take action against dangerous products, the sale for which just enriches Amazon. Both are public hazards.
