No one hurt Made Jun 26, 2025, sent to the company Jun 30, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 15, 2025
The product, in the report: KIrkland [Costco] hearing aid batteries, size 312, 1.45 volt, 48 pack.
In making this product safe for children, it has become extremely hazardous, particularly for the elderly. I refer to Kirkland hearing aid batteries. The new packaging is almost impossible to open, even using the recommended method with scissors. Yesterday, I struggled with a utility knife and came close to cutting myself while struggling to liberate a new pair of size 312 batteries. Many seniors will cut themselves while using various cutting instruments in futile attempts to open this packaging.

First aid Made Nov 27, 2024, sent to the company Dec 3, 2024, published by CPSC Dec 17, 2024
The product, in the report: Costco’s “Kirkland” Brand button batteries, “Size/Format” 312, available only at the warehouse
In trying to get 2 hearing aid batteries (312’s) out of the “new and improved” child-safe button battery packaging at Costco with the illustration-recommended pair of scissors, the packaging is so difficult to cut through (with very sharp scissors), I cut my finger instead. While I respect and support the INTENT of Reese’s Law, the implementation forgets a crucial piece of information: the typical user of a hearing aid button battery is a senior citizen of the United States. Many seniors lack hand strength to perform the maneuver illustrated; I happen to have quite strong hands, and still couldn’t do it. This packaging needs to be re-thought to 1) protect children, and 2) facilitate improved ease of access to elders who are the principal users of hearing aid batteries. The previous packaging, with a rotating plastic cover, made battery access simple. Please provide direction to manufacturers to address item 2) above. Thank you.

Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 13, 2014, sent to the company Mar 26, 2014, published by CPSC Apr 9, 2014
The product, in the report: Batteries ((kirkland brand, AA)
Bought two [REDACTED]. Instructions state that these toys can be used in the bathtub.
1. One of the [REDACTED] leaked battery fluid (kirkland brand, AA batteries) into the bathwater. I had no idea until the next day when I disassembled it that it was coming from a battery and my children bathed in it.
2. The other [REDACTED] caught my daughters hair and tangled her hair so much in the “fan” that is used in toy, that I had to cut her hair off from the toy. It was extremely painful to my 6 year old.
I contacted the company, who did respond promptly and asked for the toys back so that they could research the problems.
