A few months ago, I purchased a Bafang Mid-drive Assist Kit. While riding around last week, I noticed the battery making an odd sound. Opening the case, it appeared that the battery cells were loose in the case but it was difficult to be certain. I reached out to my bike shop. They reached out to their supplier, and according to them, there was a bad batch of the gel used to stick the battery to the case. The supplier also provided a solution involving adding adhesive foam inside the battery.

I carefully drained the battery’s energy and reinspected it. One of the glue joints holding the cells to the case had failed completely and another was either absent or failed. I reached out to my bike shop again to let them know that I would be reporting this issue. According to the bike shop owner, these batteries are from “Green Bike Kit” (I do not know if this refers to the manufacturer or the supplier). The bike shop owner has all of their batteries accounted for but does not know if other batteries share this issue.
