The product, in the report: AA Alkaline battery carrying the brand name of Frys.com

A brand new, fresh from the package, AA alkaline battery carrying the brand name of Frys.com spontaneously exploded while sitting on my desk waiting to be installed in a piece of electronics. The negative terminal end popped open with a loud bang and sent material spraying in the air. It then continued to smoke and bubble.
