The product, in the report: Currie 24 Volt Electric Bike Battery Pack Origin: China SIN: B002RR7RD2 Item model number: BA-PK24-005
I have a Currie Electric bike, which comes from the manufacturer with a 24 volt SLA battery pack. Specs on the battery pack are these: Origin: China ASIN: B002RR7RD2 Item model number: BA-PK24-005
I bought this bike + battery at Toys R Us.
This battery isn’t that old and looks in good condition. There are no safety mechanism/devices on it from what I can tell. It is sealed in a non-consumer repairable plastic housing, charged with an external charger.
I went into my garage and smelled a burning smell. I tracked it down to this battery pack, which has now partially melted. If I had been away or otherwise not detected it, I am concerned it would’ve caught on fire, potentially burning my house down.
So I wish to report this should others experience something similar.
