No one hurt Made Aug 31, 2026, sent to the company Sep 3, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 18, 2026
The product, in the report: Anker Laptop Power Bank (25,000mAh, 165W), model A1695
On August 21, 2026, an Anker Laptop Power Bank (25,000mAh, 165W), model A1695, serial number 20PCN66F09100111, began smoking and ignited while it was being recharged.
The power bank was sitting on a flat, hard table and was being recharged using an Anker A2345 charger. It was not connected to any other device and was not under load. I was the owner and sole user of the product. It was being used as intended, indoors, at normal room temperature. The unit had not been dropped, damaged, exposed to water, or modified.
I noticed smoke coming from the unit and the unit then ignited. I extinguished it with a Fire Gone Fire Extinguisher Spray Suppressant. There were no injuries and no damage to anything other than the power bank itself.
I want to note the circumstances of detection. I only saw the smoke because I happened to be standing at an angle where the unit was in my line of sight. There was no audible alarm and no odor reached me before I saw the smoke. Had I been in another room or asleep, the failure would have continued undetected on a table indoors. No one was injured, but the potential for a structure fire and for injury was present.
I checked the serial number against Anker’s published recall lookup tool and it returned no match. Model A1695 does not appear in any Anker recall to date.
I still have the failed unit. It is stored safely and has been photographed. I am willing to make it available for inspection.

The product, in the report: Model: Anker Power Bank A1647 - 20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable Serial Number: AHJ4L21D43202012
On Saturday, August 1, 2026, my Anker A1647 power bank spontaneously exploded while sitting on my nightstand next to my bed. The unit was not plugged in or charging at the time. It had been fully charged earlier that evening and was idle. I was in bed at the time. The unit overheated, caught fire, and caused burn/scorch damage to the carpet in my bedroom.
I sustained a minor burn to my finger with pain when handling/extinguishing the unit, though the pain resolved by the next morning. Fortunately, there were no other injuries, but this occurred inches from my head while I was sleeping.

The product, in the report: Anker 20000mah power bank, Model A1647
My Anker Power Bank 20000mAh (Model A1647) suddenly exploded without warning while I was driving on the highway with my husband and our two children. The power bank was not plugged in, charging, or in use. Within moments, our truck became engulfed in flames and was declared a total loss. The incident also ignited a roadside brush fire, requiring multiple emergency response units, including a Wildfire Unit. We lost our vehicle, personal belongings, and experienced significant emotional trauma. We are extremely fortunate that our family escaped safely and survived this catastrophic product failure.

The product, in the report: Anker Battery pack model A1642
I have an Anker A1642 battery pack, Ankers site says mine is not part of the recall based on the SN. So I continued to use it. Last night my daughter was using it with her [REDACTED] and it clearly started to melt! The battery pack is now deformed between the USB A port and the button on it. I contacted Anker and they just referred me to the site which once again says its not part of the recall. So I think the recall need to be expanded to include more Serial Numbers or whatevers. Its clearly not safe that the device started to melt and deform.

The product, in the report: purchased on Amazon November 9, 2022 Anker 321 Power Bank (PowerCore 5K), 5,200mAh Portable Charger, Compatible with [REDACTED] Sold by: AnkerDirect Supplied by: Other $24.99
I have, and frequently used an ANKER 321 POWER BANK , MODEL A1112. 5,200 mAh. for my [REDACTED]. Purchased on Amazon November 9, 2022. It was in its usual place, plugged in for charging, probably for a few days, as it commonly was. I went to get it. I noticed a sort of faint burning smell. The USB C port and the area around the plug were discolored and melted. The connector was discolored black/brown a distance of a centimeter. I could not remove the C connector, it was melted or fused into the port. It did NOT ignite. There was no fire or injuries. But it looked like it was headed in that direction if I hadn’t discovered it. I don’t know how long this had been brewing. I didn’t know about it until that moment I discovered it as I was going to unplug it from the wall charger in order to charge my phone. I had almost 3 years of successful use of this product. I see a lot of reports about Anker problems but I did not see in my brief perusal, this particular item.

No one hurt Made Jun 3, 2025, sent to the company Jun 5, 2025, published by CPSC Jun 20, 2025
The product, in the report: Anker PowerConf S500
We have an Anker PowerConf S500 in one of our offices. The device made some loud popping noises and then a small explosion. It appears that the rechargeable battery exploded. It melted right out the side of the plastic body of the device and nearly caught fire. There was a ton of smoke and horrible burnt plastic and electronics smell. The desk the devices was sitting on was partly melted, but luckily did not catch on fire. Also, no one was in the office at the time luckily or they might have been injured. The device was plugged into a power source, but was not actively being used at all when this happened. I found there is a recall for a different Anker PowerConf model than what we have but it seems like the same issue.

The product, in the report: Anker Power Core Elite III 27K 87W
I had a small cord plugged into an Anker battery but not one of the recalls and the battery was on my bed. I have not used it in a long time. I have no sense of smell and saw smoke I only walked away three seconds. Then I saw smoke coming from the cord. The cord burnt up and was hot and burned my bed spread. I only stepped away for a few minutes. It could have caught the bed on fire and burned the house down.

The product, in the report: Anker Series 6, Anker 621 Power Bank with Built-in Lightening Connector, Model A1645021. Made for [REDACTED]. White. 3 inches x 1-1/2 inches.
On May 31, 2024 I purchased two Anker Series 6 power banks from Amazon. The order was delivered on June 3. I tested one Anker power bank yesterday (Sat., June 8) by charging a [REDACTED] for a hour, recharged the power bank to test the charging time, and eventually put the power bank back into the box. This morning at [REDACTED] am the fire alarm in my house went off while I was asleep, and upon awakening I found the power bank on fire in the dining room. The power bank was In its box, not connected to any electrical source, and sitting on a walnut China buffet. The fire completely burned a gift bag that was adjacent the box and burned the bottle of wine in the gift bag. The surface of the China buffet that lay underneath the power bank and the gift bag/wine show heavy fire damage. Please note for Step 3 below - no one was injured but the situation was safety threat. I was fortunate to have been alerted to the fire and able to extinguish it.

No one hurt Made Aug 16, 2023, sent to the company Aug 29, 2023, published by CPSC Sep 13, 2023
The product, in the report: ANKER POWERHOUSE 767
Product is ANKER POWERHOUSE 767, ordered from seller “ankerdirect” on EBAY (identifies as FANTASIA TRADING, LLC), apparently a wholly owned subsidiary of ANKER INNOVATIONS LIMITED. The product is an all in one portable power station (lithium iron phosphate battery pack, inverter, and associated electronics) which controls battery charging and subsequent output of stored energy through an inverter to provide power to household electrical devices which run on alternating current. It is marketed to people desiring a source of electrical power during a utility power outage (among others). I first tested the unit by plugging three devices into it: cable modem, wireless router, and ethernet switch. The router and switch powered up, the modem ([REDACTED]) did not. When plugged into a household 120-volt receptacle, the modem powered up normally. Having extensive electrical experience in my 76 years, I began investigating by plugging in my $5 three-light 120-volt receptacle tester, and found (to my amazement) hot and neutral reversed on this $2000 piece of gear. An online search of “120 volt receptacle hot neutral reversed” will amply describe why this is incorrect and dangerous, so I won’t go into that here. I then searched online forums to see if anybody was talking about such a problem, and found multiple examples of people with the same experience who had made the company aware of the problem, and received replacement units without the problem. Others who bought units long after the problem was made known to the company, and supposedly fixed, reported receiving units with the problem. Apparently, the company produced many units, with the problem built into a random subset of the units, due to inadequate instructions and subsequent testing. Then the units were sent to multiple stock points. Upon learning of the problem, the appropriate action by the company would have been a recall and “stop sale” order, since detecting the problem is easy and cheap. The complicating factors are that the unit weighs 67 pounds, and the packaging is heavy duty and strapped for [REDACTED] shipment, and the multiple stock points. Opening the shipment units to do the simple test is taxing, so thus far, the company has just continued to ship out units like there is no problem, and replace the problem units as they are identified and returned. The problem with this approach is that many devices will operate in what appears to be normal fashion, but with the risk of electrical shock that comes with the reversed leads. The typical customer may have no devices (as I did) that check for the reversal and refuse to power up. The typical customer will have no experience that leads them to look for such a problem, and no tools to identify it, and will suffer the risk without any warning.

The product, in the report: Anker 535 Mobile Power Banks (PowerCore20k) with model number A1366
Anker 535 Mobile Power Banks (PowerCore20k) with model number A1366. I purchased 4 of these in December 2022 for my family. On Sunday, March 5 at approximately 5:30 pm one of these power banks exploded causing a house fire. The power bank was laying on top of my dresser drawers in our master bedroom not plugged into any power outlets or charging any devices. It was literally laying on dresser and exploded. Luckily me and my wife were at home when the explosion happened. After hearing the explosion me and my wife ran in bedroom and found everything on top of dresser was engulfed with fire. The flames were around 24-36” tall. We grabbed anything we could find to smother the fire and douse with water. During the chaos of trying to put out the fire my wife fell and injured her leg to the point she couldn’t put any pressure on it. She went to Doctor the next day to check for fracture in hip or ankle. X-rays were done and fortunately found no fractures. My wife had to miss 3 days of work due to these injuries. I had our insurance company survey the damages and contacted a lawyer. I estimate around $2000 in property damage and whatever medical bills and loss of work days. I have not contacted Anker yet due to the advise of our attorney. I would appreciate some guidance from your agency on what I should do next.

The product, in the report: Anker 535 Power Bank (power core 20K) with PD 30W Max Output, Power IQ
As a Fire Chief and Fire Investigator, firefighters responded to a fire in a private, single-family residence for a reported structure fire. Upon the extinguishment, the undersigned conducted an origin and cause investigation for this fire loss. During the course of the investigation found that the cause of the fire was an Anker 535 Power Bank (power core 20K) with PD 30W Max Output, Power IQ. The power bank was not being charged nor charging any other device at the time of the fire any was found on the floor in the bedroom. It was obvious that the device experienced “thermal runaway” and internally exploded (photographs of the device are available by the undersigned). The device was left at the scene so private insurance company could see the cause of the fire. The homeowner reported hearing a “sizzling” noise and shortly thereafter a “boom”. The structure filled with smoke and the device ignited Class A combustible materials to burn. No injuries to any civilian or firefighter. The homeowner purchased the device on December 7, 2002.

I responded to assist units on scene with a fire alarm activation. I was advised by command that a electronic battery pack external charger was the source of the smoke that set the alarm system off. I investigated and found the owner of the device that purchased it a short time ago.He stated that he had the battery charger in his backpack. He stated he felt it get hot so he reached in and pulled it out. He stated is was extremely hot to the touch and he dropped it on the floor, then it caught fire and began smoking. He stated he had it charging all night and it was not charging anything in his backpack, as he left his cell phone at home. The device created excessive smoke that it filled the hallway of the school up, as well as scorched the flooring.
