The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jan 1, 2026, sent to the company Jan 6, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 30, 2026

The product, in the report: onn 12W Single USB-A Port Wall Charger with 3ft USB-C to USB Cable, Foldable Plug, White - Compatible with [REDACTED], and more

To whom it may concern, I purchased a Walmart onn brand car charger for my [REDACTED]Phone December 26th. Yesterday December 31 at approximately 8pm while driving I was overcome with the smell of an electrical fire. While me and my son were in a panic trying to figure out where it was coming from I felt the heat on my stomach and we saw the light on the end of my phone charger. It was not plugged in. The end that goes into the phone was melted and melted a hole in my sweater. I thank God we smelt it and found the source quickly before something tragic happened. I now fear using any onn charger due to the fire hazard and how unsafe we feel. Thanks, [REDACTED]

Made Jun 21, 2021, sent to the company Jul 29, 2021, published by CPSC Aug 12, 2021

The product, in the report: portable battery charger (for any electronic 12 volt charging, USB), 6700 Mah

The charger was plugged in the outlet at 3:00am and her adult son was awakened between 5:30am - 5:45am to a fire. Flames, smoke and a burning odor, were emitting from the charger. The flames were just below the bottom of his desk and the charger was setting on a small stand near the desk. The flames were between 1’ - 2’ high.

The son woke up and pulled the charger from the surge protector and placed it into the sink. The parents came into the bathroom, while the son went back to his room to put out the melting plastic and other items that caught fire.

There was a surge protector that was plugged into the wall outlet. The surge protector has USB ports on it. The charger was connected to the surge protector by a cord that was plugged into its usb port section. The surge protector did not sustain any damage.

While the charger was in the bathroom, it exploded, sending hot pieces of flaming/melted plastic across the bathroom. There are burn marks on the wall, flooring and minor burn marks on the ceiling, sink and bathtub. The son used a towel to extinguish the flames from the charger, in the bathroom, at 5:57am.

The following number (BC 1848A) is listed on the charger, but there is no indication as to what that number is.

The 23 year old son sustained 2 burns on his left arm, inside of his elbow, where a piece of plastic burned the inner portion of his elbow. He sustained a small blister to his right hand and right fingers. He also sustained bruising to his chest and abdomen. The son has not seen a doctor for his injuries. However, the bruising to the chest and abdomen has continued to worsen and changed color to a deep purple.

6/18/2021: The consumer reported this incident to the retailer and advised them that she would be contacting CPSC. She asked the rep. ([REDACTED]) if the product could be pulled from the shelves. The rep. could not answer that.

The product, in the report: ONN portable battery pack, blue, about 3x5”

My son owned an ONN portable battery charger that he bought a couple years ago. A couple days ago it spontaneously caught fire; it was not even charging at the time. Thankfully our smoke detectors went off and my husband put the fire out quickly. It burned parts of my son’s desk, his carpet, and even after my husband took the charger outside it continued to smoke, smolder, and melt. If my husband had not been home, or if this had happened at night, this could have been more dangerous.

The product, in the report: Brand - Onn Model number - ONA16WI057 10ft, white cable, USB to lighting

I was using my USB/lightning charger for my iPhone. I was getting ready to go to sleep, when I accidentally touched the plug where it connects into my iPhone 7 Plus. It was BURNING hot. I immediately unplugged it from my phone and wall, and didn’t think anything of it. I could smell something that was similar to burning, but I didn’t think much of it. About an hour later, I get up and notice how the cable has melted. I’m extremely glad I was awake and noticed, otherwise I imagine this could have very easily started a fire.
