The product, in the report: Tolooc ceepuy leaf blower
Battery charger caused a fire w/ Lithium Ion Batteries. Engine 6 dispatched for a building fire.
Arrived on scene of a 2.5 story middle unit townhouse with smoke showing, established command and stretched an 1.75 inch hand line.
The occupants were outside and advised everyone had evacuated and the fire was located in the back corner of the living room and one of the homeowners had used a dry chemical extinguisher to attempt to put it out.
We located the fire area and found that the extinguisher had knocked down all visible fire.
Continued the second due engine and first due ladder releasing the other companies.
Assigned Ladder 2 to ventilate upon arrival. Engine 2 took a hydrant on Westgate Crossing for water supply if needed.
Further investigation showed there was no extension to any of the surrounding material which included an end table with various items on it and a couch and love seat. There was some char on the wall and the cover for the baseboard heat was melted.
The cause of the fire was a charging Lithium Ion battery and I requested a K unit be notified and they could call C4’s cell phone. K2 contacted C4 and after speaking with him photos were taken of the scene.
Released Engine 2.
The homeowner advised there were 2 cats in the residence and after searching by us and the homeowner both were located.
The homeowner advised that there was a battery fro the leaf blower plugged in and charging on the end table. We located the charger with the end that connects to the battery melted as well as the batteries with the exterior plastic housing melted away and the batteries separated from each other.
The leaf blower was a Tolooc ceepuy leaf blower, no data plate was found with any manufacturer information, model or serial number. The charger had no manufacturer information but was labeled Lithium Battery Charger model number LI13S50A(B) with a 5 amp output.
While investigating the area E6D advised the female occupant had reported some smoke inhalation and was requesting medical aid. I requested and ALS to respond.
After evaluation by the crew of Engine 6 she declined ambulance transport and the ALS was canceled. Refusal paperwork was completed.
Once ventilation was complete Ladder 2 was released.
Once photo documentation was complete and the area was rechecked for heat and extension with none found the property was released back to the homeowner.
Terminated command.
