The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 4, 2016, sent to the company Feb 16, 2016, published by CPSC Mar 1, 2016

The product, in the report: Kawasaki 18V Cordless Battery Charger

The battery for the cordless drill was in the charger and had begun to smoke and melt without tripping the breaker of the surge protector it was plugged into. The surge protector is plugged into a 110V outlet.

If not noticed, it would certainly have caught fire thereby setting the garage/house on fire. There was not a power surge or other electrical incident to precipitate an over-charge condition.

The product, in the report: Kawasaki 19.2v cordless drill with two batteries and 1 battery charger with ac wall adapter. Apparently produced by Alltrade Tools Company Longbeach CA. It is used for drilling and driving screws.

The Kawasaki 19.2v cordless drill battery charger (purchased from Tractor Supply some time ago) started melting along with the filtered power strip that I had it plugged into. If by chance I did not check on it one day, this could have burned down my house. Model of battery charger is 690072, sn 0909006865.
