No one hurt Made Jul 22, 2024, sent to the company Jul 24, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 7, 2024
The product, in the report: HTRC-C240 lithium battery charger, which was mentioned in your July 2024 Consumer Alert.
Lithium battery charger and battery exploded and caught fire, destroying the charger and battery. Fortunately, I was in the room at the time, grabbed a fire extinguisher and avoided any further damage. I thought it was a short-circuit in the battery, however I note the recall/warning on the HTRC C-240 Lithium Battery Charger, which is what I was using at the time. I have to deduce that it was the charger at fault.

Luckily a stranger was jogging by and called me on the doorbell. Thats when I called 911. Not only did the fire damage our entire garage and cause smoke damage to our entire home. It also burned the paint off our 72 [REDACTED] and put our 1 dogs, cat and rabbit at risk.

I purchased a charger Model #C240 Duo from Amazon, it is of course Chinese made, that I have owned since April. It charges multiple types of batteries, and I use it for RC airplanes. I have charged many batteries and I am an engineer, so I am not ignorant as to how to charge a LiPo battery. The charger caught on fire, I was two rooms away, and by the time I could get there, the charger had melted through the table it was sitting on and dripping fire to the floor below. It destroyed all of planes, all of the electronics that are used in the hobby, tools, storage, and the room itself. 911 was called and they extinguished the fire. The entire house was smoke damaged, and has to be repaired and cleaned. The RC planes I have to replace at my cost, and through no fault of my own were destroyed.
