The product, in the report: CTEK MUS 4.3 fully automatic battery charger
I was using a CTEK MUS 4.3 battery charger on an AGM battery (battery was 2 years old) on a snowmobile in an enclosed trailer. I had used the charger several times prior w/ satisfactory results. It is a fully automatic charger designed to be left hooked up “connect & forget” as it says in marketing material. Well, the battery must’ve overheated / overcharged for some reason causing a fire. The charger is supposed to have overcharge protection or stop charging if a defect or problem is protected. The battery caught fire catching the snowmobile & enclosed trailer it was in (along w/ other snowmobile inside trailer) all on fire. The fire spread to the shop building the trailer was parked alongside leading to an estimated 1,000,000 loss in building, vehicles & parts, materials, tools, personal effects in storage & new equipment in inventory.
