The product, in the report: Bethpage Federal Credit Union lithium phone/tablet battery charger. Promotional Item handout.
On Saturday, June 1, 2019, I had a lithium battery charger/flashlight, handed out to me when opening a new checking account in February 2017 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union, explode while charging in my kitchen for about ten minutes, shooting extremely hot debris and black soot up to ten feet away. It was not used more than twice before without incident. And it was not overcharged , showing a 25-50% charge level when I plugged it in about ten minutes earlier.
It literally burned and melted the Formica counter top where it sat, set fire to some papers on the counter top and a newspaper several feet away, burned the wood floor in several places with the flying, hot debris and melted an area rug in a spot eight feet away. The smoke alarm going off was the only alert we had. No one was in the room at the time and that saved it shooting directly at me had I been sitting in my normal chair, which had a piece of the debris starting to melt the vinyl seat.
It took about two hours to clean up the mess plus the laundry time needed to clean all the furniture covers covered in this burned lithium soot.
