No one hurt Made Oct 3, 2026, sent to the company Oct 7, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 22, 2026
The product, in the report: Anker PowerCore 26800 portable lithium-ion power bank, model A1277, rated at 26,800 mAh / 96.48 Wh. Serial #AFYJHX0E30581250. Black color.
I am reporting a thermal runaway fire involving an Anker PowerCore 26800 portable lithium-ion power bank, model A1277, rated at 26,800 mAh / 96.48 Wh. The SERIAL NUMBER of the battery is AFYJHX0E30581250. The power bank was purchased new in 2025 from what I believe was Best Buy in Crossgates Mall, Albany, NY. The power bank was being used inside my parked [REDACTED] to provide power to a dash camera overnight. While the vehicle was unattended, the power bank caught fire inside the vehicles center console. The fire caused substantial heat and fire damage in and around the center console and burned or melted nearby materials and contents. Although the visible fire damage was concentrated in the console area, smoke and residue spread throughout the enclosed passenger compartment. A noticeable film/residue was deposited on interior surfaces, creating concerns about contamination of the upholstery, carpet, headliner, HVAC system, ventilation ducts, trim, and other interior components. I have contacted restoration and hazardous-material cleanup companies because ordinary automotive detailing may not be sufficient for this type of incident, but CANNOT be fixed as insurance automatically deems the vehicle to be a total loss because there is no way to adequately clean the hazardous material. We and the insurance company are unable to find anybody in any reasonable location who is willing to do the restoration. The insurance company has totaled the car and it will be going to a salvage yard as a result. I have preserved the damaged Anker power bank and have photographs showing the product and vehicle damage. I also have proof of purchase from Amazon. The power bank was approximately one year old at the time of the incident. I am reporting this because a relatively new consumer lithium-ion power bank caught fire during use while supplying power to a dash camera and caused significant property damage to the vehicle. I am concerned that this may represent a product safety hazard. [REDACTED] Insurance can supply documentation of vehicle being totaled due to defective battery/thermal runaway. (Please Let me know if the attached photos do not show and I can resend)

Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 20, 2026, sent to the company Sep 23, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 7, 2026
The product, in the report: Wall charger by anker
I am reporting an incident involving an Anker portable battery, model A1651. I was using the battery normally when it suddenly exploded without warning. Prior to the incident, there were no signs that I was aware of indicating that the battery was going to fail. The battery had not been exposed to water or water damage, and there was no known misuse or unusual circumstance that would explain what happened.
When the battery failed, it ruptured/exploded and created a potentially serious fire and injury hazard. The incident occurred during normal use and was completely unexpected.
This is especially concerning because two other Anker portable batteries owned by members of my immediate family have failed in the same manner. My mother had one that unexpectedly exploded, and my husband also had one that unexpectedly exploded. To the best of my knowledge, neither of those batteries had water damage or had been misused.
I previously contacted Anker regarding the incidents involving my mother’s and husband’s battery. I didn’t contact anker on this one cuz last time they gave me a hard time cuz it was out of the warranty period.

The product, in the report: Anker fast charger
Hi, I had a fire at my house while we were sleeping because of a Anker fast charger that caught fire. I was luckily able to put it out because I fell asleep in my living room that night next to where the fire was. It was the transformer block that malfunctioned and filled my house with black smoke. I was coughing up black gunk as weak as my nose was filled with it. I contacted Anker, but they were only interested in fishing for information to protect their company.

No incident, no one hurt Made Apr 18, 2026, sent to the company Apr 22, 2026, published by CPSC May 6, 2026
The product, in the report: Anker Prime Power Bank, approximately 20,100mAh capacity, 3-port portable charger with up to 220W maximum output. The unit is a rectangular, handheld external battery pack with a built-in digital display screen on the front and a power button on the side. Color is Phantom Gray (dark gray/metallic finish). The device is marketed for charging phones, tablets, and laptops via USB-C/USB ports. It supports high-power output suitable for laptops and fast charging. The unit was purchased new on or around April 11, 2026 through Amazon.
On April 17, 2026, I had an Anker Prime Power Bank (20,100mAh, 220W portable charger). Earlier, I attempted to turn the device on, but the screen did not turn on and it appeared non-functional. It was not plugged in and was not being used.
A couple of hours later, I noticed the device was emitting a burning/smoke-like odor and felt slightly warm to the touch, which was unusual given that it was not in use.
Out of caution, I moved the device into a metal cooking pot and placed it outside on a balcony to isolate it from indoor surroundings.
Approximately a couple of hours after that, the power bank experienced a thermal failure and ignited on its own. The device burned internally and fragmented into charred battery components. The fire remained contained within the metal pot, and no other items caught fire.
Hotel security responded and documented the incident. There were no injuries. Minor surface soot/discoloration occurred on the balcony, but no structural damage.
The product was not in use, not plugged in, and had been sitting idle prior to the incident. The failure occurred after initial warning signs (odor and slight heat), despite no active use.

3 Different Anker Model A1336 Power Banks purchased or received at different times have all failed the same way. 1st they stop charging at full speed and get a little warmer then they should while charging. Then after a few days to weeks they go from maybe a little warm to downright burning. They stay hot well after being unplugged and dont actually cool down until the bank has fully depleted over a few hours. I own a [REDACTED] camera and checked one of the devices while charging and it was at over even above 200 degrees F. Unplugged it remained at or around 180 degrees for hours. I have thermal images of this behavior.

The product, in the report: White Anker 773 GaNPrime Power Bank, 2-in-1 Hybrid Charger, 10,000 mAh 30 W USB-C Portable Charger with 65W Wall Charger, Model A1651. Works for [REDACTED]. The serial number of the product: since the product got damaged, the some of the characters & numbers on it are not easy to read. This is the best I can do: A1YWEA0E30161197.
My daughter and son-in-law gave me a white Anker 733 power bank (model A1651) as a Christmas gift in December 2024. They ordered two it on Amazon - one (white) for me and another (black) for my husband, but he did not need it and gave it away to our married granddaughter (I just warned her about possible danger of this product). Yesterday I plugged the device in a perfectly fine electric outlet in my son’s house in Georgia (where we are visiting now but will return to our home in Wisconsin by 3 September) and connected it to my [REDACTED] for charging. In about 10 minutes the power bank began burning emitting lots of horribly smelling (most likely toxic) smoke. Thankfully, I was in the same room with the device, so I immediately unplugged it and took it outside. It was hot and burning so I poured water on it. It is still warm to the touch today and smells badly. If we were upstairs, in the bathroom, in the backyard, or away for a walk at the time of the incident, there could have been a devastating fire.

I was charging my phone using an Anker PowerCore Slim 10000 (Model A1229), when suddenly I smelled smoke. I quickly pulled the battery out of my pocket and threw it on the ground. Once it had stopped burning, I saw that it had completely burned out the port at the top of the battery and melted the battery case around the top corner. I do not know if it can still accept a charge or deliver a charge as I am too afraid to plug anything into it. I am reporting this months after it happened because I didn’t know who to report it to until I got a recall email about another Anker battery, so I am reporting it to you now.

The product, in the report: White 2 USB port. 2.2x2.1x1.1 White
I purchased an Anker 24W Dual USB Wall Charger PowerPort 2 (with Foldable Plug) from Amazon.com in June 2016. After approximately 3 months of use, the appliance would spark when plugging it in to a receptacle. I discontinued use for a while thinking it could have been the cord. Fast forward to March 2017. I started trying to use it again with a different cord. It still sparked upon plugging it in. And in addition to the sparking, I could hear the device sizzle and the power would come and go from it. I decided to write a review on Amazon.com. I found that several others have had the same issue with sparking and sizzling. One person even posted a video of the sparking. I believe this is a hazard and could start a fire, especially now that more than just myself has experienced the spark and sizzle.
