The product, in the report: Sunco Linkable LED Utility Shop Light, 4500 LM, 5000K Daylight, 4 FT, 48 Inch Integrated Fixture for Garage, 40W Equivalent 150W, Surface + Suspension Mount
An LED shop light manufactured by Sunco Lighting (model SHI_F-40W-5K-1PK) malfunctioned, causing an electrical fire. The fire was contained to the product, causing significant melting and release of smoke and toxic fumes and blackening of the ceiling above it. The product was installed and in operation in accordance with the product’s instructions. It was the second light in a daisy-chain of two of the same product. The first light in the chain also malfunctioned, but did not catch fire, and was flashing and significantly dimmed with most of the LEDs not working. The product was removed and disassembled to investigate the cause, photographed, and disposed.
