The product, in the report: Coast clamp on work light with 3 brightness settings purchased at costco Also no safety warnings on the box at all
I had a recent purchase at Costco of a light from the brand Coast, I has a slight injury and property damage and feel like Coast is completely unconcerned about how serious this could have been. Please help/advise. Below is some of the things I have sent them as well as their reply. Me: I purchase a clamp on light from Costco from the brand Coast. I feel like even with what I reported to them, Coast is not taking all of the necessary consumer safety precautions they could/should be, especially after their response. I am sending my message to them, followed by their reply. I cannot stress enough how much more dangerous this could have been. The second incident in the same day heated my phone to a dangerous temperature inside my pocket while buring my leg and leaving a brown spot through pants and thermals. If my phone would have exploded in my pocket the results could have been devastating to say the least. With this being a portable item it should be expected to be in some areas where it could cause fires if turned on unknowingly. Thank you.
Me: I recently purchased your clamp on light at Costco and it is amazing , I love it and everyone that sees it comments on it.. but.. the power button has basically zero safety features or functions and my $200 sweater/hoody ended up having a hole burned through it. That was already upsetting enough but then after using the light on a job this evening I got back in my vehicle and was putting everything away and the light burned my leg, started to burn amd ruined my pants and had I not felt the burning my phone was in the pocket heating up, if that battery would have exploded I could have lost my leg or even worse. Again great light but zero safety precautions to avoid these things seem to be in place. When my hoody burned, my entire vehicle, equipment and house could have burned up.. please respond accordingly, thank you
-[REDACTED] Coast:
Hello [REDACTED],
Thank you so much for reaching out to us and I’m so sorry for the trouble you’ve had with your light!
When it comes to making lights, the reality is that the brighter the light, the hotter the product will get. While developing this product we engineered around the heat as much as possible but did recognize the heat risk still associated with such a bright light. This is why we have included a significant amount of messaging around the high heat of the product and included information to help users avoid damage to their belongings or themselves. There are warning symbols for heat and distance printed on the front of the actual product along with a large warning section on the instruction sheet included in the packaging (attached).
If you feel your light may be malfunctioning and producing heat that is beyond what the provided warnings would guard against, I would love to send you a free return shipping label so our technical team can review your product as we take failure issues very seriously. Should that be the case, your light would of course be covered for replacement by our Lifetime Warranty.
If you would like to have your product reviewed, please reply with your address so I can get a shipping label made up for you.
All the best, [REDACTED] Attachment(s) [REDACTED]
Me in response to a survey:
I have forwarded my issue/concern/injury/damage to other concerned parties. Consumer Product Safety Commision mainly, there are absolutely no safety warnings on the box, and I do not recall any type of user manual or any additional tips or guidance. The warning on the light its self is minimal to say the least. A faint icon that blends in with the colors of the area it is embossed is hardly a reminder, and even if it was that does not stop the accidental/unknowing turning on of the device. Again, GREAT GREAT light, but someone is going to end up seriously injured if it is continued to be sold in the current form. Some sort of bumper or blocker system around the actual bulb perhaps just incase it is tipped or like in my case turned on with no one even being aware. Thank you.
