The product, in the report: Jiffy Propane Ice Auger Generation 2
I purchased a Jiffy Ice Auger Propane model generation 2. I was told upon purchase this was an updated model, the updated model apparently addressed some serious issues the model one had. Come to find out after owning it for two years the propane line started leaking, I purchased a new line and installed last year around this time of the year. Went to start it up this year and the propane started leaking again from the new line. I called the manufacturer after finding several other people online in forum talking about they were having the same problems with the product. I called Jiffy at [REDACTED] and talked to the customer service rep there. He told me the product I was inquiring about is not under warranty, and I was out of luck . He explained why the ice auger leaks, because of bad design and that is why they changed the design to what is now called a gen 3 propane auger. The Gen two has the propane bottle mounted sideways making the propane go into the unit as liquid propane instead of gas, and the liquid drys out the seals in the line quickly and can malfunction easily in cold weather under 10 degrees. THIS IS very dangerous as the propane starts leaking and could ignite and cause an explosion if you were near an open flame or smoking. I asked the manufacturer to help with the issue with their product and they said sorry, we can not help you without me in any way except by selling me the same faulty hose. They said I could convert it by buying a bunch of new parts but it would be near the same price as a new one. I pleaded with them to help, they said no. I sent another email asking if there was anything they would be willing to do before I sent this complaint. It is very unfortunate a company that admits they have a faulty product and design but are not willing to do what is right and to fix their product. Another side note, I just called a local Jiffy authorized repair facility and they have sold over 20 hoses for this same unit so far this season. It is not just me that is experiencing this issue. Sooner or later someone will get hurt using this product. The Manufacturer should do a recall.
