The product, in the report: Black & Decker cordless drill/screwdriver All details, model numbers are given previously
I have a cordless Black and Decker Drill/Screwdriver. The charger caught on fire, and Black and Decker told me that batteries are only good for 5 years. The man I spoke to admitted that this was not in writing, but that “all batteries, including car batteries were only good for 5 years” thus the reason my charger caught on fire. The batteries, I was told, are 9 years old - but they still worked fine - until the charger caught on fire. The batteries were not damaged, cracked or otherwise impaired - until the charger burned. He transferred me to sales, and the want $44. something for batteries, (I have/had 2), and $16.00 for the charger. Drill model number FS1202D Battery model number B & D FS120BX Charger model # FS12C

No one hurt Made Jul 18, 2011, published by CPSC Aug 8, 2011
The product, in the report: Cordless electric drill
Cordless electric drill battery got warm on one side (rear, right when holding drill for normal use) while plugged into drill but drill was turned off at the time. Drill seemed to operate normally, no unusual or uneven heating noticed. Battery did not get warm again when drill was turned off. I suspect the battery, not the drill, perhaps an intermittent short inside the battery (faulty cell or wiring).
