The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Jul 14, 2026, sent to the company Jul 17, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 31, 2026

The product, in the report: TECEUM Type III 550 Paracord rope sold on Amazon.com under ASIN B094DJRMCS. Product title on Amazon at the time of reporting: 5/32 Inch Paracord Rope 1000 ft 200 ft 100 ft 50 ft Tactical Parachute Cord 4 mm 45 Plus Colors Nylon String for Survival and Camping Gear Utility Rope. The product is a black Type III paracord marketed for camping, hiking, survival, emergency preparedness, utility, tent setup, securing equipment, and other outdoor applications. According to the Amazon listing, the rope is approximately 4 mm in diameter, is sold in a 100 ft configuration, and prominently advertises a minimum breaking strength of 550 pounds (249 kg). The listing also states that the product is manufactured according to MIL SPEC C5040H and is intended for applications where consumers may rely on the advertised tensile strength. Independent tensile strength testing performed by the submitter determined that the tested rope failed at approximately 300 pounds, substantially below the advertised 550 pound minimum breaking strength. Because the product is marketed for load bearing and safety related outdoor applications, the significant difference between the advertised and measured breaking strength may create a foreseeable risk of unexpected rope failure during normal use.

I am reporting a paracord rope product sold on Amazon.com under ASIN B094DJRMCS. The product is marketed under the TECEUM brand as Type III 550 Paracord for camping, survival, emergency preparedness, utility, hammock, fishing, tent setup, crafting, and other load-bearing applications.

The Amazon product listing advertises a minimum breaking strength of 550 pounds (249 kg) and states that the product is manufactured to MIL-SPEC Type III 550 specifications.

I independently performed tensile strength testing on this product under controlled conditions. The rope failed at approximately 300 pounds, substantially below the advertised 550-pound minimum breaking strength.

Because this product is marketed for applications where consumers may reasonably rely on the advertised strength, a breaking strength significantly below the labeled specification may result in unexpected rope failure during normal use. Such failure could create a foreseeable risk of falls, equipment damage, or other serious injuries.

No injuries have occurred in my case. However, the significant discrepancy between the advertised and measured breaking strength raises a product safety concern because the product continues to be marketed for safety-related and load-bearing applications while carrying a substantially overstated strength rating.

The product, in the report: TECEUM Reflective Paracord Rope 1000 sold on Amazon.com under ASIN:B0C6F47NPN. The product is a TECEUM Reflective Type III 550 Paracord made of green glow in the dark nylon. It is advertised as a 4 mm diameter utility rope with a 550 lb minimum breaking strength and is sold as a 200 ft length. The product is marketed for camping, survival, hunting, emergency preparedness, securing equipment, and other outdoor activities. The product packaging and Amazon listing identify it as Type III 550 Paracord and state a 550 lb minimum breaking strength.

TECEUM Reflective Paracord Rope 1000 sold on Amazon.com under ASIN:B0C6F47NPN. I purchased this product because it is advertised as a 550 lb Type III paracord with a minimum breaking strength of 550 pounds.

I performed a tensile strength test under controlled conditions. The rope failed at approximately 300 lb, which is significantly below the advertised 550 lb minimum breaking strength.

Consumers may rely on the advertised strength when using this rope for camping, survival, emergency preparedness, securing equipment, or other load-bearing applications. If the rope breaks unexpectedly because its actual strength is much lower than advertised, it could result in falls, equipment failure, or other serious injuries.

The product appears to be mislabeled regarding its breaking strength and may present a safety hazard to consumers.

The product, in the report: The product is a TECEUM Type III 550 Paracord made of black nylon. It is advertised as 5 32 inch, 4 mm diameter, with a 550 lb minimum breaking strength and is sold as a 100 ft length. The product is marketed as a multipurpose utility rope for camping, hiking, survival, emergency preparedness, securing equipment, and other outdoor activities. It is sold as Type III 550 Paracord for general purpose outdoor use.

I purchased this product because it is advertised as 550 lb (Type III) paracord, which indicates a minimum breaking strength of approximately 550 pounds.

I performed a tensile strength test on the rope under controlled conditions. The rope consistently failed at approximately 300 lb, which is significantly below the advertised 550 lb breaking strength.

Because the actual strength is much lower than the labeled specification, consumers may rely on the advertised rating when using the rope for camping, survival, securing equipment, emergency situations, or other load-bearing applications. If the rope breaks unexpectedly due to its lower-than-advertised strength, it could result in falls, equipment failure, or other serious injuries.

The product appears to be mislabeled regarding its breaking strength and may present a safety hazard to consumers. Multiple samples were tested, and the measured breaking strength was consistently around 300 lb. The testing was performed using a calibrated tensile testing machine.
