The product, in the report: The orange box labeled CHAKRA. Inside includes 20 tea bags that are packaged individually in smaller orange boxes. Each individual string on the tea bag is the potential hazard if heated in a microwave.
A flame ignited from to heating a teabag in the microwave. This product is from TeaForte.com. I received this nice tea set as a gift. I was heating up one of their teabags in a cup of water in the microwave like I normally do for other teas I purchase. A flame on the “string” connected to the tea bag immediately ignited. Thankfully, I was able to stop the power on the microwave and blow out the flame. Had I walked away, that flame could have caused a horrible fire in my home and possibly injuring myself. Afterwards, I looked closer at the tea box. On the BOTTOM of the box and the BOTTOM of each package of tea (each is packaged individually in a smaller box), it does say DO NOT MICROWAVE INFUSER. I inspected the string further by cutting it open and found that there is a thin metal string with cloth string wrapped around it. So it is not apparent that this product contains metal and must not be used in the microwave. The product that I specifically have is in an orange box and labeled CHAKRA. I am not sure how can this company can expect every consumer to know to look at the BOTTOM and read the very small printed instructions. This is a very dangerous product for those not familiar with this type of tea bag infuser. The box says this is a product crafted for Tea Forte, Inc. Maynard, MA 01754, USA, Certified Organic by CERES GMBH, a Product of Germany and packed in China.
