  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Apr 17, 2017, sent to the company Apr 25, 2017, published by CPSC May 16, 2017

The product, in the report: This was a Sears Craftsman portable table saw. The folding legs did not lock in during set up. I had used it several times before with no issues. It collapsed causing me fall on the saw. The blade guard scraped the skin off of my arm as I fell. The injury wasn’t severe but could have been. The saw is 10 inch 15 amp Craftsman. Model # 137.415030 Serial # RTW4126

I was setting up my Craftsman portable table saw up to use when it collapsed causing me to fall on top of it. The blade guard scraped the skin off my forearm about 1/4 inch wide and about 8 inches long. Afterwards I tightened all the bolts up on the stand thinking loose bolts was the cause of the collapse. It subsequently collapsed 2 more times after tightening. As far as I can tell the problem is in the locking mechanism and isn’t due to loose bolts. I could never get my locking mechanism to actually lock in a safe position.

  2. No one hurt

Made Nov 6, 2012, sent to the company Nov 26, 2012, published by CPSC Dec 10, 2012

The product, in the report: Sears table saw model 315.28462

The Sears Craftsman 10” Table Saw, model number 315.28462, has a plastic pad, part number: 089037008040, that provides pressure to hold the blade angle once it is set.

I released the lock lever, adjusted the blade, then locked the lever. The plastic pad broke into two pieces and flew across the room. I did not apply excessive force.

Had this part failed while sawing, the blade would tilt and jam possibly causing serious injury.

The saw is about a year old and has had very light use. This is the first time the blade has been tilted.

  3. No one hurt

Made Aug 23, 2011, published by CPSC Sep 15, 2011

The product, in the report: Craftsman 10 inch table saw

I purchased a table saw from Sears back in May but have only used it once. While performing a second use, I started the saw and began to make a cut using the miter gauge. After starting into the cut i felt the blade jump suddenly and noticed that the angle had changed. After shutting off the saw, I found that the plastic locking lever pad had broken. The safety concern is that when it broke, it is startling and prompted me to pull my hands off of the table releasing the wood piece and being struck by it or possibly getting cut.
