The product, in the report: ryobi bts20r folding table saw, sr#X043832490.
ryobi bts20r 10” table saw, sr#X043832490. I was using it and was unable to shut it off with the switch, I even pulled the “key” out of it and it would not shut off. I had to move the table saw while it was still running in order to unplug it from the wall. I contacte Ryobi on 1/7/21 and on 1/12/21 they asked for my address and phone number which I promptly provided. On 1/28/21 I followed up again, yet no one has contacted me to provide any resolution

The product, in the report: BTS15 10” portable table saw with legs (sn N044583928)
I have a Ryobi 10” portable table saw with legs (sn N044583928) purchased from Home Depot. The saw motor/carriage/blade assembly is misaligned to the table deck. I have made due with this ‘feature’ over several years of occasional use with this saw. Last week I went to cut a 45deg rip on some lumber. After setting the blade angle and depth, I turned the saw on. The table jumped from the sudden crash of the blade against the throat plate; sparks and shards of metal flew towards me from the blade, some hitting my face. Thankfully I had my safety glasses on. The blade, because of the misalignment and being at 45 degrees, seems to have run against the metal throat plate, cutting off shards and mangling the plate beyond use-ability.

After making a cut, I turned the power switch off, but the saw stayed on. I had to go to the wall outlet and pull the plug to shut it off. I tried it a few more times, but it stayed the same; the saw came on as soon as I plugged it in, even if the switch was off.

The product, in the report: Ryobi BT3100-1 table saw. Serial no X044675762
When using my table saw I tried to stop the saw after cutting with the factory switch and the saw would not stop creating a extreme safety hazard as I now needed to struggle to try and unplug the saw while managing the cut wood. Confirmed that the switch did not prevent the motor from starting even when safety pull lock was removed. In all cases the saw starts up when plugged in again.

No one hurt Made Nov 10, 2015, sent to the company Nov 27, 2015, published by CPSC Dec 11, 2015
The product, in the report: Portable Table saw 10”
The “rip fence” that was provided by Ryobi with this product Model RTS20 10” portable table saw has two plastic “sliders” that allow the fence to lock onto the table saw top. The sliders appear to be very poorly made and one or both can easily become cracked and break off. The left slider for my rip fence did in fact break within 2 years of use and also within the 3 year warrantee period for this product. I discovered that without both sliders intact, the rip fence cannot lock and may move unexpectedly while the saw is being used. If the rip fence moves it can allow the wood piece being cut to shift and permit severe operator injury. The two plastic parts in question are described below with their Ryobi Part numbers. I contacted the company to inform them of this problem and discovered that they have discontinued these parts and don’t offer the consumer any other option for replacement. To me, this compounds the problem since consumers may continue to use a defective rip fence, attempt a home made fix or use another brand rip fence not made for the table saw. I feel strongly that these rip fences should be recalled to check for damage to the sliders and that the company provide a safer, more stable design for the rip fence. Please understand that I have not been injured by this defect but it seems very likely that someone could easily become injured if it is not corrected.

The product, in the report: Table Saw
Safety Switch on table saw ceased working properly. Does not turn saw off, making it necessary to unplug the saw to turn off. As a safety feature this is a serious flaw. Dismantled the switch and found that the switch design would easily lead to this type of unsafe failure.
Search on BTS20R showed that there are four other reports on the same failure.

No one hurt Made Mar 1, 2014, sent to the company Mar 28, 2014, published by CPSC Apr 11, 2014
The product, in the report: 10” Table Saw, portable with integral wheeled stand.
A few years ago, I purchased a Ryobi 10 in. Table Saw, Model BTS21, SN X085002221, from Home Depot, the sole distributor of Ryobi products. As you know, Ryobi is one of the brand names of One World Technologies, Inc., Anderson, SC. This same company has an outstanding recall for what is apparently a similar problem for a similar table saw marketed under the “Ridgid” brand name.
The saw has been used only occasionally and intermittently for perhaps a total operation time of less than 25 hours. During the last two uses of a few minutes each, the saw was making a loud grinding noise and it was apparent that the blade was wobbling, as the kerf was over 1/4” wide, rather than the expected 1/8”. I installed a new blade, thinking the old blade might be warped, but the new blade made no difference.
I checked Home Depot’s customer reviews and found a number of complaints about the gears stripping, requiring replacement of core motor components. The primary gear is machined into the end of the motor shaft; the secondary gear is supported by a die-cast aluminum or zinc housing, which also supports a surprisingly very short arbor assembly. If the gears should seize at full 5000 rpm because of damage and internal fragmenting, the arbor assembly holding the 10” blade could explode out of the machine causing severe injury or death to the operator.
I contacted both Home Depot and Ryobi-One World Technologies about the problem but was greeted with total unconcern. Home Depot, despite being the sole distributor of Ryobi products, said to contact Ryobi. Ryobi said that the machine is past the 2-year warranty and so they will do nothing to repair or replace the machine. They ignore the fact of “implied warranty” and that their product is extremely dangerous.
The number of complaints on Home Depot’s website belie the fact that gear failure is a common occurrence with this tool. Ryobi’s parts distributor, Gardner, Inc., stocks over 40 complete motor assemblies and numerous armatures only (the shaft of which has the primary gear cut into it), indicating that such failures are common. Failure of the gear train involving the arbor seems to be identical to that of the Ridgid R4511 which is subject to an ongoing recall. The risks are the same with the Ridgid or the Ryobi, although it appears that the Ryobi has a high risk of failure with any blade, not just a dado assembly.

That report listed a number for Ryobi for customer support. I called them and they said they would file a safety report ( internal?) and send a new switch. The woman I spoke to was pleasant and took care of my issue quickly.

The product, in the report: 10” portable table saw made by Ryobi. serial number (I think, I used a magnifier glass to try and read it) X034558531 model number BT3100-1.
The ON/OFF switch on my 10” portable Ryobe Table saw has stopped working. It will NOT turn OFF, it just stays ON, no matter what position the switch is in. This also cancels the operation of the child safety switch as it stays on if the safety key is on or out. I have owned the saw probably 6 years and use it very sparingly on small home projects. This is a real safety issue.

The product, in the report: Ryobi 15” Portable Table Saw
When using the saw I had a cut bind and I needed to turn the saw off. The switch stuck on and the only way to turn the saw off was to step away from the saw. No accident or injury occurred, but it is very disconcerting to not be able to turn a power tool off.
The power switch now intermittently sticks on preventing the saw from being turned off. No accident or injury occurred. I feel this is an issue because if a cut binds , the only way to stop the saw is to remove both hands from the workpiece and unplug the saw.
Also, once the switch is stuck on, the saws child proof interlock mechanism is no longer effective, since the saw will now run any time its plugged in. Cycling the switch off and on un-sticks it, however the problem appears to be progressive and over time the switch completely fails.
The sticking is caused by the switch contacts welding themselves together.

The product, in the report: Ryobi Model BT3100 table saw
I own a Ryobi model BY3100 table saw, serial # X054698909. While using it today, the power switch suddenly stopped working, leaving the saw ‘on.’ The only way to stop the blade was to pull the plug. This happened during routine use, but the problem could easily have resulted in a dangerous situation had it involved a jammed board, kickback, etc.

The product, in the report: Ryobi BT3100 table saw
The power switch for the table saw is permanently on. The only way to turn the saw off is to unplug it. Moving the switch to the off position does not turn the saw off.

The product, in the report: Ryobi BT3100-1 10” Table Saw System
The table saw I was using was a Ryobi BT3100-1 table saw system purchased from Home Depot. I am the original owner. The purchase date was December 2005.
Serial number is X044877566
While ripping a 4’ cedar 2x8 the power switch failed to kill the power to the saw when the power switch was turned off. When I attempted to turn off the saw at the end of the cut I pushed the rocker switch to the “off” position, the switch moved to the “off” position, but the power to the saw continued without interruption and the the saw did not turn off. I turned the saw off by pulling the saw’s power plug from the outlet.

The product, in the report: Ryobi Model RTS30 portable table saw
Ryobi Model RTS30 Portable Table Saw.
Attempting to unlock the tilt lock snapped a plastic washer and it flew across the room after bouncing off my arm.
Now the saw is unsafe to use as there is no way to secure the saw tilt.
After checking Home Depot for another saw, it was noticed that all their display models had the same missing washer.
